  1. Best possible advice. Can also be used when someone (like our old singer) says "I wish you played a ....... like our old bassist did", you can engage the '......bass switch'. They're amazingly effective, especially for some reason, with singists 👍
  2. It is an outstanding instrument and significantly better than the 200 in my experience (the 300 looks interesting but perhaps doesn’t meet the criteria above). Whether it’s still the best option at close to £5k retail however is probably debatable
  3. Looks lovely could be great, could be s*it, that's double basses for you. If you've already bought it I'd not worry about value, just get it set up and start learning how to get the best out of it. Ultimately with double basses it's like horse and rider, rider's gotta get to know the horse before the paring works, irrespective of the quality of either
  4. My thoughts are as @lemmywinks above. Having somewhat painful personal experience of someone who i was close to move in a similar direction, I see no cynicism, only a (harmless in real terms) detachment from objectivity and reality
  5. i suspect, and always have, that he lies more to the naive than the nasty 👍

  7. Yes but hardly the first or the last to come in on the off beat 🙂
  8. OK let’s try again.. Rhymes with mice Rhymes with curls Go for it @silverfoxnik 👍
  9. That’s been around a while Mick, even if I were in the market and the cash were not s problem, the seller’s description snd attitude would say no. And these were the worst relic job Fender ever did, it’s actually a pretty decent instrument but that finish looks and feels amateur 😕
  10. This is getting complex. A few years back I lost a few hundred quid when a bloke here ripped me off. Several guys PMd me and offered cash to help me recoup and at the time it was hugely appreciated. @Dood is the f***ing man, he has made a huge contribution to bass culture here and elsewhere over the years, so let’s help him out with no complexities? If we want to help out - which I do - let’s do it, and let’s stay off this thread if we don’t want to?
  11. That is what I wanted to say but thought better of it. But yes, stop counting and get a feel for it, and the one will come more naturally 👍
  12. Either way I’m not seeing the problem, it’s not a song to become over focussed on counting?
  13. Do I detect a subtle but nonetheless discernible subtext of growing affection for our old friend here folks….?
  14. Stingray plate won’t fit, I tried on standard Fender P. I’ve got two Precision versions somewhere, if I can find them you can have them 😀
  15. Why rehearse or refer to an idiosyncratic live version which could be s mistake anyway, studio version is straight forward
  16. Hello mate, Canterbury/Whitstable in Kent, I can post also 👍
  17. Ha ha, good point, have to say I'm really enjoying playing old Motown stuff on the Enfield fretted, flats, tone fully open, getting that lovely articulation to a note that only a fret can give you. But fretless still feels like home
  18. I'll give you a couple of clues Nik 1. Sugar and ......... 2. Boys and ........ At the time, she was VERY recognisable, all credit to her 👍
  19. Will do 👍 Will do 👍
  20. Sports gear requires some interesting cases, try flying with a javelin
