Schnozzalee replied to neepheid's topic in Basses For Sale
Cool bass! Always had a soft spot for these. Alas, nothing to trade and an impending 77 precision mean this is just a free bump!
Haha! I always have the same taste as Andy - I too think it looks damn cool, I'd be playing Black Sabbath tunes on it all day long!! -

Please help out bass legend Joe Osborn!
Schnozzalee replied to TomRichards's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like Joe ain't too confident in his student - i'd be happy to watch/listen to some clips of him playing though -
Good on ya mate, it suits you - if you've worked hard enough to afford it, your more than worthy in my book. Enjoy!

Voted!! I had to give 3 a 2nd listen to pick. I've never come across a thread like this before but it has to be my favourite kind . I didn't get the Scooby Doo meets Jimmy Saville theme but i've been away/busy recently . Thanks for contributing to the compositions guys, was surprised (and slightly disappointed) not to hear a beginner having a stab at it?? Was all very pro.

Very cool, love reading this kind of thing. Just reminded me that I want one of his signature Laklands!

I really like the USA Jazz colour combo, difficult to find these 2nd hand - too many black & white fenders floating around.

My dad gave me an album of theirs recently, 'The Spirit', I enjoyed it and uploaded it to Media Player - huge fan of Thunder though, another incredible rock band that didn't fully take off (flawless live too)!

An SG's neck is very fragile even now! I had a Yamaha SG2000 which had a neck very similar to the 60's Gibson style you find on an SG (too small for me) but it's less fragile due to ebony board and thru neck - this would be my first suggestion due to value (great rib contour as a bonus). I'd also recommend ESP too as the build and neck are chunkier, but the looks aren't to everyone's taste. Gibson SG's are fizzy sounding so they benefit heavily from pedals and EQ'ing, a roasted maple fretboard would create a more brittle sound...a guitar like that needs a rosewood board to round out the tone - If that's want you want i'd go Charvel Jackson. I'd look to a 2nd hand Les Paul Special/Junior VOS too if you want some more beef and body. I'm considering a VOS Les Paul 57/58/59 but the GAS comes and goes; some days I think humbuckers have a monotonous tone and others... Damn I'd like to attempt some Larry Carlton on one o them! You'll always return to a strat or tele though, just like a jazz or precision

I'm talkin' bout the bass solo, not the guitar stuff. Asian musicians always practice too much http://www.youtube.c...1&v=ozbZeZZwSIw

I don't think there's an attitude problem by either party, just a breakdown in communication - give the guitarist the benefit of the doubt this time and if it doesn't work you can raise the issue during play.

So after 15 minutes in this shop I bought this...

This chap's trying to sell ours here: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1c2cddc059 I've checked with him and it's the same one, I part exchanged it with a nice ole welshy for his 70's Yamaha SG2000 who then moved it on to this fella above - I don't know what he's done to to bring the condition down but it was immaculate when it came from you and left me. Was a lovely guitar indeed and the reason I bought the above!! Neck was a bigger handful of Chunky C than the Fullertons, I can get a tad more speed on the V's higher up but the arpeggios are just as wicked - wide string spacing and a nice flat radius . I still hanker for an Invader/Rampage, they're next on the list if I can't find another of these - I'm looking for Fullerton Red too!! . I've had 5 G&Ls so far and no bad eggs! *touches wood* What did you think of the MFD pickups on the Asat? I haven't had a chance to try them out yet

Lol I'd take Foxen's offer if I was down Bristol way, used to be in Cardiff and I used the guy at Cardiff Guitars until I heard Eltham mention 40 odd pound. Edinburgh is a possibility for me, thank you! Dave Wilson (ex-Overwater) has quoted me £40 so i'm probably going to take him up on it as soon as I can get out to Haltwhistle, Northumberland. Thanks guys, very helpful thread

Thanks Sliddx! I bought the 50s 2 tone & maple first n just thought aww maaayn, now I need a 60s 3 tone & rosewood - blew my music budget straight out the window. The Deluxe is what I should have originally bought over the AVRI, I need every bit of help to sound even remotely like Stephen Stills . I had a mate who ditched a Les Paul for the Fernandes Ravelle, can still remember that pickup through his Marshall stack . There's definitely summit about V necks that keeps making you want to pick it up. I love the Tyler headstock!! The more bizarre the better ! I just didn't like the modern, chambered tone n kinda felt out of love with bridge humbuckers over unison bends lol. I can get close to a tele on G&Ls because of the big ole metal bridge, but with these, I tend to roll off the treble and it's inbetween a Rickenbacker and SG Special for crunch - made me start listening to The Who again . Btw do you use 9 or 10 gauge strings on your stratocaster??
