1.
I know a lot of people love flats on a precision but I can't get on with them. Try some rounds and lose the foam.
I would have thought the flatwounds and foam would have helped the tone become more percussive and thumpy, especially with rosewood. That made fretless would be a bass I could get on with
2. Yep get a G&L tribute basically a Jazz and P bass in one but has an active boost to give it some life, best value for money. Same electronics as the american series. Alternatively you have your stingray or going with the round soapbar sound the bartolini's in Cort and Ibanez are fantastic. All my suggestions are active. You've just experienced what I did owning a P bass, great fun to look at/play but a very woody/woolly tone met with some strings clanking against the fretboard - the most unprecise bass i've played, although maybe it refers to timing. Its a MASSIVE irony, however I was using a Tokai Hardpuncher but I also had the same experience with a Charvel P. If you have a good Precision like the post 2008 Fender American you just need better amplification and crank it many people 50/50 love the tone and get by using them solely. If you like the Steve Harris Iron Maiden tone you could always stick a hotter pickup in the body like a seymour duncan quarter pounder, the newer P basses are largely helped by the nitro finish for more resonance like its been worn in like an old one. Rosewood boards help for thumpy motown flatwound sound, maple + roundwounds growly rock.
3. I want this bass, but I'd like it fretless and with a colour finish. The maple knobs make it look lush though.
4. Interesting idea, I would love a double bass - sad that finding the cash has always prevented me!! This would be perfect for transport on the trains
5. That looks RCHP with the colour scheme, I prefer rosewood sooo much!
6.
Cheers Schozz, but 1. WTF is that in your avatar? 2. Why are you selling all your bass gear?
Thats me new Masterbuilt Charvel Star lol its a classic '78 finish, pretty marmite but think of Ziggy Stardust n it don't seem all that bad...really...hmm? Take my word for it haha. Plays like a dream though and sounds the biz plus the woods are top quality, just can't shake the GAS for cheesey LA hair metal guitars  I'm not intending to give up bass entirely, just got a lil too peeved at my hands being too small for 75% with the hand injury n so on but there ain't no guitar I can't play and I thought it might help my theory/inspiration. I've only played a John Birch Rickenbacker so i'm not so sure how a real one would feel, but tonally, that with flatwounds is where its at!
7. Bump!!!
8. Agreed, I only like high output old skool pickups with flatwound strings. This makes me miss my EB3 . If i still played bass this would be gone and possibly defretted - at a great price like that who cares about modification!
9. I think this is a great little toy, brilliant to look at and my kinda sound too.
10.
A frrrreeeee BUMP for a great combination. I'm playing the same stuff and ..... mighty, loud, light and funky stuff. Especially the two channel give a great variety of sounds.
And then you press the 'mix channel' button!! Thanks for the free bump! Very kind
11. I got the pleasure of being the first BCer to deal with Flea's Disciple. I sold Callum my flawless Peavey Cirrrus with immediate payment following a polite and friendly phone call with his father. I'm glad the bass went to a good home as it was most definately one of the better guitars i've owned. Great communication, easy transaction and a true bass enthusiast. Deal with confidence!! Thanks again Callum, enjoy the funky bass and I'll look forward to the music banter in the future!
12. I've seen one like Stag's before in a cash converters in Carlisle - very nearly my first bass! Still smitten with the explorer/destroyer/star shape today.
13. Woah, I thought that was a reissue!
14. Just sold my G&L L2000 Tribute to Tom this week. It was the fastest sale I've ever had, the fastest payment I've ever had and a fantastic no hassle deal with quick polite response and communication. Tom's a true gent, just glad to have added to his great collection! Can only hope to have this kind of easy buying and selling in the future . Thanks again Tom! Enjoy
15. Bump, also forgot to mention you'll need to bring a bass if you'd like to try it out as I no longer own one! I would consider trades/px for guitars/guitar amps
16. Mine one day
17. And the player lives up to the bass! Hear the audio clip
18. Best Jazz I've seen, saw it before in the gear porn section but everytime since jaw still drops
19.
No worries at all, let me know if you do split however, or if there's something we could work out. I've heard they're awesome heads!!! Really don't need a 2x12, otherwise I'd be in there now. Aw, thanks for the comments! Definitely, I've just got a new main head to use with her, an ebs td650, lovely hi-fi tone with my accugroove cab! Turn up the bright control, and that Smith sparkle.. Oooh yeah! Had her for probably 6 months, blows me away every time its out of the case. Definitely worth every penny, so very proud, always wanted one!! Hope the sale goes well anyway, phenomenal looking rig together really! I'd love to go for the whole thing. Very best wishes, Matt
Cheers Matt, I nearly went for the EBS (Versatile like the Genz!) but I went for the boomy valve option being a Jack Bruce fan, should really be playing an Ampeg or Orange but the weight would kill me! I'll make sure I drop you a PM if I do decide to split I've loved the Smith's since I saw Freddy Washington play one on that Bass Masters DVD lol, I could only manage a 4 though with my theory Best Regards Oli
20. Hahaha, definately be interested to try the graphite neck
21.
Good lad! If you need to convince a wife/partner/mother/what ever that it's gone get it on a bus to south Wales and I'll keep her warm for you
Oh! Didn't realise you were IN Cardiff! lol damn I'm slow. Kingbasses look amazing, especially the one Molan had with that burl top mmmm...
22. I'd definately recommend them, when I come back to bass again I'll be going G&L but with Flatwounds
23. When I played the bass it seemed like it was master volume/pickup volume/pickup volume; active/passive switch; and pickup selection...so probably 2eq on the 9 volt battery. I dunno, I found this: Those things that look like a couple of Music Man humbuckers are actually an all new Leo Fender design, and they sport the patent numbers to prove it. Each pickup has eight adjustable pole pieces, making it easy to get an even sound across all four strings. The forward toggle switch (i.e., the one closest to the neck) is a 3-way pickup selector that lets you run either pickup or both; the toggle in the middle lets you choose between series or parallel operation. These two switches provide a wide range of tones, from gut-rattling deep bass to razor-sharp highs. The rear toggle switch lets you choose passive, active or active with a treble boost. There are rotary bass-cut controls, too, so the range of tone-shaping possibilities is fairly mind-boggling. Leo clearly didn't want to leave anybody's preference out. The control cavity is accessed from the rear by removing six screws and lifting off a metal cover. The active preamp, which resides on a small circuit board, was recently updated for lower noise and better performance. It's powered by a 9-volt battery that's tucked neatly into a separate compartment alongside the main cavity. The wiring for the series/parallel switch, located in the center of the cavity, is accessible, if you're inclined to tinker, you could rewire it and/or attach capacitors to further vary the L-2000's sound. (Once again: If you don't know what you're doing, don't mess with it.) A copper shielding plate covers only the bottom of the control cavity.
24. I don't want to separate the prices until after the end of the year, gonna try and sell it as a full package. I'll have to work on getting some photos!
