  1. Gotta love the Jack Bruce sound . I played White Room when I first got this. Played the run up from the open E and I just couldn't stop smirking, something about the growl from the older basses you can't get anymore. I love finding vintage custom stuff but obviously its quite easy to find something which is made of plywood and a lil bit pants but British and German stuff is wonderful from my experience. Hoyer (3rd Generation) EB3 custom build with Gibson 001 EQ (All original). Dark vintage cherry finish with creme binding and chrome and black hardware (chicken head switch). Gibson style, black and mother of pearl headstock. Black pickguard. Each Hoyer is unique, but from the harmony central reviews all were brilliantly made. German Master Luthier's since 1874 till 1970 when the company left the families hands, renowned for making guitars/basses for both George Harrison and Stanley Clarke. Hoyer guitars are a collectors item as they're very rare, however perfect vintage basses, a Gibson without the brand name which makes everyone want to steal it! Also you can cry a little less if you knock it - built like a tank. Fantastic condition, minor scratch and nicks 1/4 of a fingernail in size in laquer only not in wood. Mainly situated on bottom two bouts and buckle area. It looks more 10 years old as opposed to 40, if your a fan of the relic'd look you'll have to do it yourself! Missing the pickup ashtrays however, but has the Hoyer engraved pickup covers which act as a great ramp, also has thumb rest. It is a short scale but feels bigger, and I'm a strict 34" 24 fret kinda guy. Easy to reach all frets and extremely fast while soloing etc, very Jack Bruce. 21 Fret bound rosewood fingerboard on a 30.5 inch scale with ebony nut, fully setup with low action and no fretbuzz. The frets have plenty of life left in them. The body construct is mahogany set neck like the Gibsons BUT i think from the looks of the grain the neck is maple, which is a flawless feature cracking profile, more jazz than P and a lot nicer than the Gibson EB-O that I tried. The bridge is really sturdy, looks like something of Schaller origin. Machine heads work perfectly. Versatile yet aggressive Two Humbucker Pickup Configuration with Six Way pickup selector imitating: EB3, Precision, Rickenbacker, EBO/Tele, Hofner bass tones. Also have an extremely woofy setting best used for disco basslines which makes the floor vibrate. There is a mute option too which reminds me of the Kubicki six way switch, however this is entirely passive. Can even slap it, first bass I've been able to double thump (on Precision setting). All recording will be created from a Genz Benz 750 set to flat on the clean channel and involve changes solely from the Hoyer's gibson electronic circuit. No pedals included. Best neck I've played and where the fretboard joins the body it acts as a perfect thumb rest when playing the low B. I'd ask for that exact string spacing and 24 fret 34" ebony neck with 3 piece unlaquered maple if had enough to afford a custom bass... I'd probs get birdseye maple too!! One can dream.

  12. Charvel weren't just Japanese. I have owned two US Charvels - check to see if it says San Dimas, California, the Fort Worth Texas ones were actually made in Japan. I always bought the Star models (still own an 87-88 Guitar Version) I only bought them because I knew they were US made, and the shape is unique and inspired by Eddie Van Halen. My favourite guitar Chris Holmes played one also! The toothpaste logo is a good indicator of the Japanese ones as well as the Charvette (also japanese). The one your friend has, has the american logo but would need to see the neckplate. They're all extremely well made and the necks are unbeatable on the guitars Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd) used them. On my star bass it was pretty fantastic too, unlaquered, not P but not Jazz either. 50 quid is a sheer bargain - your friend should be chuffed. I paid £400 for my Charvel Bass, it had a P+P setting just as well built as a fender, fantastic hardshell but the lipstick red finish was a tad boring. If you were to sell it to an American, you'd fetch a lot more - don't have the renown in the UK. Hope this helps!

Thanks.[/quote] Yeah it has an incredibly smooth tone, extremely solid woody sound with great sustain. I love the Bartolini sound on anything only thing it can't do is an aggressive vintage growl but the preamp definately pushes it towards Zender's realm. It has a passive/active switch - I just tend to prefer passive basses in general. The chap in the video isn't using effects, first decent sound quality video of an A6. I'd say the spacing is 16.5mm measuring it with my ruler now - its very narrow but still easy to slap. I adapted to it in a week and i'm a four string player with small hands .

Also the headstock brill, all round great but no funds n after a 5! best of luck with the sale!
  18. I had a Lynyrd Skynyrd tape when I was 5 n I played it over n over till it died. Still got the worn out bit o card from inside n its got a picture of Leon Wilkeson recording with one o these, always remember it. If I were to get a tele bass, would have to get the humbucker version. Do you play it wearing a top hat?

I've been very impressed with the Sandbergs I've played, another value for money bass. Unfortunately I can only transport one bass and one guitar at the moment - which is why the Corts up for sale. I'd expect your sandberg to go pretty soon though, I've had a lot of offers from people just browsing google. Have you tried gumtree in London?? Six string is a joy because theres not detuning/retuning and you have both the low B for funk and metal and the high C for chords and soloing. Like a fretless, great bass to have in the arsenal! I'm just enjoying the hot pickups in my EB3 and the valve amp simulation on my Genz Benz for the mo...
