New Flea signature bass on the cards ?
Wayne Firefly replied to Wayne Firefly's topic in General Discussion
FenderRay haha !! I dont think I'd buy one if they did release this as a signature bass, was just wondering how long its going to be before we see it. -
According to The Fender Book (updated edition) by Tony Bacon and Paul Day, on page 80, I copied this, as it is. Technically speaking, Fender's Mexican plant doesn't manufacture guitars. It assembles guitars. Mike Lewis, vice president of marketing for electric guitars at Fender, explains that the bodies and necks for the company's Made In Mexico guitars are produced at the US factory in Corona and then sent down to the Mexican plant. ''There they sand them, paint them and buff them, and assemble them into guitars, with their own hardware. Also, they make their own pickups there, as well as all the Fender strings. So it would seem that they CNC all the wood bits in Corona. I hear USA bodies are 3 piece blanks, Mex are 5 piece. I can understand why they wouldnt have two sets of the same CNC machines. One set in Corona and another 180 miles south in Ensenada.

I've seen Flea popping up now and again with different versions of this Jazz Bass..... Anyone reckon this obvious prototype is going to be a new Fender release of a new Flea signature bass ?? Musicman sure did miss a big oppertunity not doing him one as all his basses seem to follow the Stingray layout. Ooof !!!

The worst song you have ever heard.?
Wayne Firefly replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
There are soooo many horrible horrible noises out there lauded as 'music'. God forbid my record collection ever got out as I have a famously bad taste in music, many friends have told me over the years to that effect anyway. I read this somewhere, to which I apply, any time Im exposed to proper hoop 'music' I ever have the misfortune to be subjected to: Its not how long a song is, its how long a song feels...and 40 minutes into whatever really grips my s&&t proves itself to be exactly what I call hoop. -
Just heard what is probably the worst I've heard in a while. I think it's called thunder, by AC/DC. Boring, cliched and the vocal was like finger nails down a blackboard.
I think you may mean Thunderstruck if I may stick one's oar in.... I used to love DC but the way they have become soooo overused and overhyped etc, they are the same as Dire Straits to me now. -

Those overly sincere, breathy acoustic cover versions of 80's hits always played behind some crappy advert for something useless or whatever. You know what I mean !!! Horrible. -
Learned to play to Maiden, Di'anno era.... loved it. Loads of corking stuff to get stuck into, certainly cemented the fingerstyle side of my playing... great fun !! Innocent Exile, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Infinite Dreams, Murders In The Rue Morgue, Charlotte, Invaders, Phantom Of The Opera, we could be here all day !! Pretty much learned the first seven albums.... 'Arry rules !!!

Jackson Star Wars Bass Guitar. I'm looking for it
he only said serious money. He doesn't use it because he's a fiver man now. I asked for an idea of money but he just said serious money so I decided not to go there. I've got enough gear and it would have made an interesting story for a magazine and to get both the l/h and r/h reunited but, to be honest, I have found it and it was great to find it. Without the internet it would have been impossible. It's not the first bass I've found using basschat either
Ha ha yeah, see your point !! I'd just would have liked to know what was a serious amout !!!!! -
yep it turned up but the current owner doesn't want to let it go. Only for serious money. I'm not sure if older Jacksons can command serious money but I couldn't really justify it. Shame really, as I wanted to buy it when it was at BEM but I just couldn't afford it
How much is 'serious money' ? -
Yes Wayne, that's the bass. It was eventually sold through Brixton Exchange Mart but I still haven't found it.
Just looking this up and Im so glad it turned up and how much of a trip is it that it IS the bass from the advert !!! Top stuff !!!! -
'We dewnt neeed 'letric, we're 'coustic' said the front man from Half A Sixpence. They are acoustic folk, call your band whatever you want !!!

Worst thing ?? Mic in the teeth. chipped to buggery. More of the same with a split lip. Bloodied nose from (well meaning) stage diving a-holes.... cant tell if the audience is dancing or fighting..... gear failure is another thing entirely haha !!

Over the years I've had 9 MM basses and had 2 'Rays that had this issue. My current USA Sterling had it too....BOOMING E and whispering G. I lowered the pickup until the boom stopped and whaddya know, the G woke up as well !! To my deafened ears, the 3 bands are a softer, polite-er version, the 2 band is a snarling rasping animal. I love my battered old Sterling and have often considered fitting the new 2 band Sterling Classic circuit to it instead of the stock 3 band to make it a little more aggressive.
-
Fit with around 2 winds around the capstan, quick tug around the 12th fret, drops to slack again, back to pitch, another tug drops it to around a semi tone-ish down, back to pitch, another tug, SHOULD stay reasonably stable. Just something I found that works on tour with no time to waste. They are not on long enough to worry about long term effects anyway !!! I kind of do it to tighten them up on the capstans like tying / tightening a shoelace tight, metaphorically speaking.

Count yourself lucky you didnt order a Zon !!!!!

Flying with instruments - my guide
Wayne Firefly replied to Dan_Nailed's topic in General Discussion
I dragged a Warwick around the USA in an anvil style case which drove me mental with its size and weight. It still came away with a hole punched straight into it like a bullet hole and a corner almost busted off. Got SKB / Gator / Just In Case, ABS style lightflight things as lighter alternatives. Much easier to deal with, but have been through four of them in the last few years as they get crushed, corners smashed off, dents, deep gashes and allsorts of horror damage BUT the basses so far have always survived intact and undamaged (so far ....ahem). I usually lock and gaffa tape down the latches, even the ATA rated ones. I usually try an get a couple more flights out of them by making merry with a fibreglass car body repair kit. Thats when they go in the hold on BA flights from London airports. Now, we flew to Serbia on Air Serbia last year and my current surviving SKB case was 13 centimeters too long by their ruling, so would have cost £300 to go in the hold.... I took my old '91 Ibanez SR600, neck off, neck in a rugby sock, in a gig bag, folded over and luggage strapped up, took on as hand luggage, went under my seat, no problems whatsoever. Also, Serbia have some kind of ruling about customs and equpiment that they could impound your gear if they have any inkling you may have tried to sell it in their country or may have bought it there and not paid them import / export tax. It made sense to take my oldest workable bass just incase...... It was fine anyway. Another daft thing I do is put large long case-length strips of bright yellow gaffa tape either side of the case so it can bee seen 200 or 300 meters away down Heathrow's cavernous halls if its put out by baggage handlers somewhere odd. I also have 8 long strips of gaffa withoiut having to carry a roll of heavy tape. I guess its easy to say when you have an older, bit battered semi decent bass too. I have a hammered USA Sterling which will end up being my 'flight' bass from here on as I wouldnt want the Zon taking a hit or lost. A decent maple neck with a non angled back headstock also helps with being able to take a good clout when thrown by an unscrupulous baggage handler. -
Not my first time in Wunjos but my first time in Wunjos bass cellar bit..... loved it, great little place full of tasty gear and friendly staff too !!! Definitely be somewhere I frequent in future. A nice Spector in the window I was severely tempted by too, tickling my Jason Newsted GAS........

How many times have you broken a string?
Wayne Firefly replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
Broken dozens of strings haha !!! With a pick can get maybe 10 hours from a set before they start to break but with fingers, never broken one !!!
