I've got that ep! Contains the excellent Ich und die Wirklichkeit by DAF... Anyway, slightly older:

Point is, it's rather funny! Now I know that Jazz is A Serious Business, at least for some at the more po-faced let's-do-what-has-already-been-done-1000-times-before types. But in common with everything else That Takes Itself Too Seriously it is a prime target for die Pinkel nehmen 😁 And I say this as a great fan of the more out-there jazz, having played in a free improv group with members of Lol Coxhill's ensemble!

I don't like any of the Amplitude free sims for bass - too muddy with no snap or clarity. Prefer my Bias FX freebie!

Me too!

Talking about great drummers we've played with - this guy was the best (Tony Bianco).

Here's the song wot I wrote for my band, this is recorded live in our living room... It's about ploughing your own furrow and not being a sheep! Or a cat, for that matter... EDIT! Remixed, see below...

This chap isn't a drummer, he's a musician who drums 😁 Sadly, most drummers I seem to have the (dis)pleasure of playing with don't appear to understand that as well as keeping time, a good drummer should supply a groove that adds to and supplements the music, rather than just bashing a cymbal as hard as they can on every beat with a fill on every single drum at least every 4 bars... So if anyone knows a rockin' jazzydrummer looking for a progressive-punk-funk band please give them my details! At present I'm quite enjoying Mr EZ who resides in my phone...

What are you listening to right now?

Here's us live in our living room for a Punk 4 The Homeless online benefit yesterday. It features my phone on drums!

Help please - 1/4" tape transfer
Leonard Smalls replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
Depends on whether it's a 7 or 10" spool, or even a Nagra Sn... And it could have been recorded at 1.875, 3.75, 7.5 or 15ips. So a 7" spool at 15ips gives around 16mins, a 10" about 32. -
Help please - 1/4" tape transfer

If you'd asked 6 months ago I could have done it! That's when I sold my Revox pr99 and Dolby A/SR decoder... However, bear in mind the tape may have degraded over the years (shedding or "sticky" tape) so it may need restoration. You'll probably be able to tell by unravelling a bit... If it is I'd use someone like www.audiorestored.com -

My download worked fine - and I discovered downloads of sample locker and a synth I'd forgotten about, which was nice.

I can guarantee a complete absence of bagpipes... We've recorded 8 songs in 1 take of 31'20" this afternoon, after playing through my new one a few times first. It was originally called Back Chat (I parle Francais proper,me!) but our singist changed the title (and some of the lyrics!!!). Just got to mix all of them for the gig on Saturday then extract Kiss This (as it's now called). It's quite exuberant!

What's your fantasy Lotto jackpot bass gear shopping list?
Leonard Smalls replied to Painy's topic in General Discussion
An Alembic Stanley Clarke to complement my Wal and ACG. Bootsy's pedal board plus Helix to go into an enormous at least 2kw/ch Crown power amp and 6 Markbass 4x10s - 3 per side in stereo... -
We're on the bill for the Punk 4 the Homeless benefit for Compass Children's Charity this Saturday (15th) - we have only got 1Mb upload so have to do it as a recording (doing that today!). We're on at 1545-1615: http://www.facebook.com/events/3021817487944315/ We may also being doing P4TH's Girls Are Loud Hope Orphanage Benefit on 5th September if we can record another set by then!

First one's this Saturday - we're on at 1545: https://www.facebook.com/events/3021817487944315/ We're going to re-record it s'afternoon, and it's possible the rest of the band may want to do my new song; I've done a backing track, worked out guitar lines and written lyrics (which will probably be heavily tweaked). So is it cheating to use that recording for this month's compo compo?

I'd had a vague thought but may get nowt together - got 2 "live streaming" gigs one of which we've recorded live but I'm currently editing and mixing, so may have no time wot with one more to "live stream" (!)... If not the vague thought may become one of our songs, it's 150bpm, in D, A and E phrygian (mostly) with break in 6:8 (as all punkfunk songs should).

Funnily enough, our 2nd ever "cover" is Love in a Void by Siouxsie and the Banshees with the bassline played in the style of Plug In Baby.
-
I'm not far from Knighton, local boozers are there or Clun... I'm originally from about 70 m north of here so they see me as "from off"!

Do different keys really have different characteristics
Leonard Smalls replied to Nail Soup's topic in General Discussion
I dropped the bourgeois and sheeplike notion of keys long ago as they stifle true creativity and are divisive and discriminatory against the frequencies not in them. All frequencies are equal! And I've discovered that this approach is perfect for our times, as any gigs undertaken would be absolutely socially-distanced. -
Our 2nd time playing together since beginning of Feb, and as The Drummer is shielding we're using my phone instead 😁 And guitar is sounding mean through a Marshall Jubilee bass amp and Markbass 2x10! Hopefully we'll be OK for live streaming for 30 mins on 15th August!

This... Though I've been trying for 30+ years to get the same feel and sound as Bootsy!
