1. Update! Not a lot to update on at the moment, still got my old rig, but have been watching a few threads on here and talking to a few people A while back I found out that "The great British Bass Lounge" was a few miles from me, so had a drive over yesterday to look at some other options. Drew is, I think, the only dealer stocking bare faced cabs, and whilst I have seen a few of these on stage with bands, not actually had chance to get my hands on them. He is waiting for stock at the moment, so didn't have the super compact I wanted to try, even though I was initially looking at two 2x10's, I'm not discounting two 1x12! He did have a Retro 2x10, I had looked at these, but was initially put off by the 12 ohm option that was needed to run two cabs. I really like the foot print and weight of these, going back very soon to test against the super compact. If the Retro 2x10 does what its supposed to do, it should suit me well, we shall see! I am going to be changing my whole rig, so I'm in a good position here, not building a rig around an existing amp, starting from scratch again! So going to be having a look at the GK heads, MB and MB fusion! So plenty to consider if I go with Retro 2x10, if I run one 12 ohm cab I'm going to be getting a lot less power out of what ever amp I go for! Another amp option has surfaced, that has got my attention, the Mesa Subway D-800, be interesting to hear this! It will run at 2 ohm meaning I could run two 4 ohm Retro 2x10's I'm not in a rush here, which is good, my band is "regrouping" after a change of vocalist, so have time to get it right! Tony
2. Thanks for the advice, I looked on ebay, will contact B&M today I've been running it around 80%, apparently this is too high and they are known to blow after a relatively short time when running them high. 50% is recommended! Tony
3. Hi managed to blow the tweeter in my aguilar DB212! Had a lot of gigs over last seven days and was awre of a bit of fuzziness when digging in a bit, on Saturday night it decided to give up totally at the worst possible time! The first song in the set where I use a pick was the one that sent it over the edge, like I said, the worst possible time as I started to play the intro to A Town Called Malice, damn!! Fortunately I was DI'd through our PA rig as it was a big venue so we had the full 3.5k rig out. Didn't realize it was the tweeter at first, thought it was the amp, also changed out a speaker cable. having the ability to turn the tweeter off proved it was that what had gone I haven't had chance to look at it yet, but does anybody know whats in these and what spares are like to get hold of? Missed having the tweeter yesterday on a gig as I run it pretty much full on! Tony
4. If I could just stick my nose in here for a moment, with the question below about the Berg's
Did the Berg CN's replace the AE's? Then theres the HD's, whats the difference part from the weight from the CN's, anyone A-B'd them? I figured a pair of Berg' 2x10 and one of those little Demeter amps would be a killer rig! Tony
6. Liking the berg option, but a bit more ££ Thanks for the advice Tony
7. Hi Over the last few months Ive moved away from my db750 (after much deliberation) to an amp I've used before, ashdown MK500 (had a JJ previousley, gone red now) Gigged it for the first time on Sunday night and sounded great with my aguilar Db212 Now looking at cab options, I like 4x10's always had them prior to trying a 2x12, that I really like as well, like the punchiness of the DB cabs! Been thinking of two vertically stacked 2x10's at 8ohms each. Like having something a bit closer to my ears rather around the back of my legs! Also gives me the option of running one cab if needed Also needs to be able to accommodate my amp in a rack case I know there is a lot of love for barefaced on here, but looks like my amp might end up making the stack top heavy, also the 2x10 is not 8 ohms Ashdown looks like a good option with their neo cabs, anybody tried those? Another options out there? Cheers Tony
8.
I had white and oxblood DB112's for a while - looked great!
A pair of oxblood db112 would be nice!
9. Yes, classic Bernard! Sat in the pub considering working it out when I get home, depends on how long I stay in here though Anybody got notes or tab for this? Then I can have another pint of the fine German beer this establishment serves! Tony
10. Just read all of this and these cabs have my attention! I have the same rig now as what JTUK had earlier in the thread, DB750 and DB212, love the DB cabs, like the punchiness, think I may slightly prefer the 4x10 over the 2x12, but thats just looking at it from a personal perspective rather than what works best for what I do and the 2x12 probably does a better all round job! So, I'm sticking with aguilar for now and will be going to a TH500, with the intention of trying one of those lovely Demeter minnies at some point in the future As for cabs, I was considering a pair of DB112's as they seem to bean obvious replacement for the DB212, was going to go white hot, but, as mentioned earlier in this thread, the price of Aguilar stuff has took a big hike up compared to were it was at a few years back! I like the vertical stacking option and a good choice of vinyl's, so a pair of S112's look like they could be a good option for me! Tony
11. Thanks for the help, will get a price from APC
12. Hi I have somebody wanting my Aguilar DB750, but it needs to get from Manchester to The south coast! As many will know, these are a heavy amp, so wanting to know what people think the best way to move something of this weight is! Even better if somebody is making that trip anytime soon Cheers Tony
13. Saw them in Manchester last week, great night! Liking the new single, classic chic
