1. Most of it is the origanil bass lines, with just enough to make it intersting added, will see how it goes on the night, I may push it a bit futher depending on the reaction I get, but 30 years of playing has taught me one thing, don't be a "smart arse". Cool thing is, I would like this gig, if I don't get it, it ain't gonna be a problem, enjoying my playing a lot right now, so will just wait until the next bus comes! T
2. Got an audition tomorrow night with a local band, not done that for a while! I heard they were after a bass player and at the time was just kind of drifting along waiting for something, whatever something is / was. A chance conversation with the drummer, who was shocked when I said I would have a go, has resulted in a session tomorrow evening. Three original songs, that are fairly simple, but two follow a similar chord pattern with similar bass parts recorded on the demos. They've told me they are up for some fresh ideas and that is what they are going to get, in varying degrees. Ultimately it rests on weather I fit more than ability to play the stuff and if we can work round my prior commitments for this year Should be fun, I'll let y'all know how I get on Soooo glad I got a TD650 again! Tony
3. I have a transcription of this somewhere, it was published in a mag' many years ago The main melody is easy to play and sounds good, if you can do the SC thing on the complex bits, even better! Marcus Miller did it as well I think Tony
4. These threads are so predictable on bass chat, some of the comments display so much hatred, it's only music and these guys, love em or hate em, have done a failry good job as far as some poeple are concerned, just look at album and ticket sales. My daughter bought tickets yesterday, my mrs had a dig at me for not buying any!! I was saving my $$ for pearl jam tickets next week, that didn't go down too well. .....I'm off to listen to some spandau ballet! T
5. I'll have a pound of your finest sausages sir T
6. I should spray my chevy black and put that big red line in Mine is slow and rolls around all over the place, but a good place to sleep should the need arise T
7. 1995 Chevrolet astro van, doubles as hotle room as well Tony
8. I thought it was a very average performance, bass sound was OK, but prominent, whole thing could have been a bit tighter. I agree with the cheesy Tony Hadley comment, he is a real crooner, or is trying to be, maybe he's setting himself up for his "twilight years" There was a program on a while back, they had a year from the 80's each week, I watched the one with TH on, Heaven 17 and Nick Kershaw were on also (and both very good) TH did True and changed the melody a fair bit, I guess his intention was to give it a fresher feel aftyer all those years, but it was bloody awful! I think the band are more than capable, I remember recording an early radio 1 live session on a staurday night (on those cassette things) and they were good, tight as... just the vocals that don't really do it for me anymore. True was always a good track with the ladies, when I was a young man Tony
9. I'm after one of these, but a bit on the pricey side for me! T
10. H&K Quantum, thats what they were! Thx Tony
11. For those of you who saw it, I apologise for bringing it up again, I know it was painful to watch, but worthy of a mention due to Mr Kemps choice of bass Spandau B played the JR show last night and the ex-easterender / 3 pc suite salesman was sporting a very nice Wal, the guy has got taste! Huge stack behind him, not one of the usual makes, I did read the name, but forgot this morning? That bloke who sings is very "lounge lizard" style these days, apologies if you are a SB fan, not my bag I'm afraid, the wife likes 'em though! JR's "expanding belly" reference to Tony Hadley was ammusing! Tony
12. Thanks for the info I spent more time searching the www and found pretty much what you said, not a lot of info out there, but the Bacchus connection is mentioned a lot I just picked up a lined fretless jazz bass, Bass Collection branded, but made by Momose, I haven't got it yet, but they seem to have a good rep' so hopefully it will be evident when I recieve it (bought blind off e-bay!) Tony
13.
Sure looks like its been de-fretted to me.... Still a nice bass though.
Just curious, but how from the pictures can you tell it's been defretted after purchasing (which is what I assume you mean)? Plus the seller says it came like that, so why do you doubt him? I've been looking for a lined fretless bass for several weeks and have seen factory lined and defretts, some of which were bloody awful! Tony
14. I was looking for a 5 strring fretless with lines, up until Tuesday this week, sorted now, would have considered this though! Tony
15. I just bid £1.86 on this, I really want it! I will be very unhappy if one of you guys out bids me on this T
16. Anyone of you guys heard of Momose custom guitars? Found some info on the www, but not a whole lot, figured someone on here may no more. They made some basses for Bass Collection, I remember the Bass Collection range covered a very wide price range with some nice Jazz type basses with Barts at the top. Momose it would seem, were responsible for some of the better models Tony
17. It is a good price, but I didn't have any intention of profiting off this, it has served it's purpose for me! I did get asked about the issue of it's playabilty after the comment in the first thread about a buzz on the 3rd fret on E string, in my opinion this is fine, didn't really notice it, the bass is perfectly playable, also, I've heard far noisier pots! But all this is irrelevant as it is now sold pending the usual I did this on a first to say "YES" basis, snooze ya loose I guess!! Tony
18. Yeah, thanks for finding that link, I posted this just as I was leaving work, I just got in and got a fair few PM's already I'm in Manchester BTW, for those who asked! Tony
19. I bought this a few months back from Rumour 6, wanted a fretless to get me back into fretless playing and it worked! I play a lot of 5 string and now have a 5 string fretless, so now this is back up for sale. I'm at work at the monent, so can't be 100%, but I think it is a 1979 model It has seen a lot of use, has plenty of marks, but is still a great playable bass. I was considering refinishing it, but the need for a 5 took priotiy I'll find the origanil post later as it has more detail on it SOLD, pending the usual! Tony
20. It's his big fat fingers that do it!
21. "...course, I won't get expensive breifs" said Iris
22. I've had a few 'rays, at least four 4 string and a few 5's, all have been good basses. I used to spend a lot of time loitering around the Bass centre when it existed in manchester and have played many more than I've owned, to be honest, not played a real bad one, those that weren't so good, just needed a good set up IMHO There is variation for sure, but less than US Fender IMHO I am currently running a 2005 beutter cream 4 string and it is very nice indeed!
