The pickup was my first thought too but it happened also when not plugged in so that was ruled out. Got in touch with D'Addario who kindly sent me two new E strings. Replaced the string and problem solved. Kudos to D'Addario!

Quick question regarding Fender bridges, the more modern type with string spacing adjustment. Do you line the strings up with the pickup magnets or adjust the strings so that they are an equal distance apart from one another?

Recently purchased a set of D'Addario EXL190 40-100 strings. The E string is producing a 'chorus' effect. A, D and G are fine. I checked the string for twists, set my witness points correctly, checked the pickup heights and made sure nothing was loose on the bass. No luck! Problem is still there. I've had XLs many times before this but never had this issue. Will I have to take this one on the chin and purchase a single .100 E? Any ideas/thoughts welcome.

How are you finding them? What is the longevity like? How is the tension - anything you could compare it to?

I currently have 45-105 flats on my Jazz bass and am looking at tapes for something with a similar sound but more flexibility. Going between the gold and copper tapes in the 50-105 gauges. Did anyone have issues with installation at the bridge or nut? Thanks.

I did have Prosteels for a couple of years but eventually moved to Hi Beams and then Fat Beams. Prosteels work well on a P but not a J.
