1. I'm going to join the ERB forum then! Should definitely be worth a go seen as I guess i'm officially an ERB player
2. I haven't had a reply from Elixir yet, as i've asked if they can do a 7 string set. Apart from Overwater, i'm not sure who else does quality 7 string sets. I'm very tempted to order a set of those Ritter swords though... Anyone fancy going halves on shipping? Any other ideas? Many thanks! Matt
3. Sunlight, Lancashire.. Where? Those pictures were taken my my friend Chris before he sent the bass to me, in Southampton.. otherwise the bass would be cold and wet by now!! Thanks for the comments! I've been playing it non-stop since its arrival, and it is actually the nicest bass i've ever played. I'm going to get the action on my 6 adjusted to match that of the 7, as the 7 really plays phenomenally, and with great ease too!!
4. Now that is very very nice indeed! Beautiful top, stunnning bass my friend!!
5. Do you use those? They definitely look/sound impressive!!
6.
I have used the OW strings as well, but I don't like them that much. Luckily, I've found that OW can just supply the F string which is a 20 or 21 or so. So I have a mix of D'Addario and OW on my basses. Here's the page from S.I.T which shows the strings that they do, right up to a 0.195. http://www.sitstrings.com/show_product.php?id=29 You can also get the bigger strings individually from http://www.octave4plus.com/ They go from a 0.005 to a 0.200
Yeah, I used to use Overwater 6 string sets, but find that they dont last too long. Ideally, i'd probably use Elixirs, I love my Elixir string on the 6, they're phenomenal! I've emailed them to see if they can wind me something to use as an F string. If not, I reckon trying something like the S.I.T strings would be worthwile! Is it noticeable having the core in contact with the bridge? You're not planning on ordering any more are you? Could go halves on the shipping and get some each? If not, I've just had a reply from Bill Conklin, and might order a set of his Snakeskin ones to try. I definitely do like Elixirs though... hmm The coating is coming off a little bit where I play over the PUs, but they still have an almost piano like clarity, really bright, great sounds and feel!!!
7.
I just wondered how I was going to get on with the imminent arrival of my Progress 36". Very excited, but those strings are going to be as tight as a farmers wallet.
Ahh that should be phenomenal!! My friend who put me in touch with Chris May a few years ago has a Progress 6 with 36" scale, and its awesome! Very tight and punchy, awesome low end!!! That should be fantastic, I just felt more comfortable with 35" IMO.. get pictures up soon as!!!
8.
Blimey.......that's very nice indeed. What scale length is that?
Thanks very much for the nice comments!! Both Overwaters are 35", and the B is phenomenal, but still there is a nice even tone and tension across all strings.
9. Hi Gareth! Cheers for the reply! I thought it'd be of that age, and have emailed Chris M to find out more details and history. Inc. why he built it, with it being his first 7 string. Heres a quick family shot anyway Thanks!! Very best wishes, Matt
10. Hey all, As some have seen, i've just bought my new 7 string bass. I think I'm going to keep it tuned B to F, not sure if i'd use a low F#, and would like to get to grips with the top F string. I'm just wondering what strings people have been using on their 7's, and what they can recommend? I've had a look around, and I'm very tempted to go for some Conklin SnakeSkins, although haven't a clue if I can get them in the UK? I've seen the DeanMarkleys in USA, but heard the Conklins are better. I do like the idea of using taper core strings. Also, I know its been discussed numerous times, but how would I go about tuning to low F#? I'm just not sure whether it would be a good idea, or of any use. I know its a simple case of buying heavyy strings, and then get the bass setup, but I'm very undecided! Anyway.. Comments!! Especially on the Conklin Snakeskins! Cheers! Best wishes, Matt
11.
Jeez. Loosen up! Take a joke man. Anyway... Looks good. Worth the wait I think...! Don't lose track of playing a 4 though dude!
I have a strange sense of humour lol!! Sorry man... Obviously didn't see the funny side at the time Thanks for the comments !! Whats this, 4, you speak of?!? 4? I've just sold my own 4 today(westfield), although still have the Wal in my posession, which is a cracking bass. That does feel like a toy now! I can still play four easily and often use colleges precision bass, or the wal, no problem! I just love the range of the ERB's obviously.... I must say, my six feels considerably smaller too! It does look smaller, obviously, but it feels much larger than expected! The neck on the 7 is very flat, whereas the neck on my 6 is quite rounded and fat, which feels thinner in hand. Strange... Although it definitely doesn't detract from playing either, I can quite easily play both (not at the same time...yet). Thanks anyway!! Very best, Matt
12.
I hate whole waiting for a new toy to arrive......... Going through that pain right now waiting for a rare bass to arrive this Saturday.... I actually lose sleep over the waiting for a new bass to arrive.
Me too... didn't sleep last night!!!
13. Good guesses so far!! Yeah its definitely something special in my books, possibly personal preference, but I'm absolutely made up that its on its way to me now! I'm based in Carleton, behind the CG pub!! Must PM each other mate, i'l try and get along to a gig sometime! Thats really incredible theres fellow BCers so local!! I'l PM you.... Cheers guys! Pics and a reveal in a day or so when my fingers start bleeding!
14. Hey Laurence, Stunning mate! Absolutely fantastic!!! I was up the day Gee? was finishing it off the neck, machineheads on and what not. You weren't around.. Looks phenomenal anyway! I'm hoping to be coming up sometime soon! Best wishes! Matt

Merton

Anotherrrr spot on transaction with Merton this week! Some more Trace Gear, niceeee.. even though this one doesn't make any noise, unless you drop it.... haha Absolutely fantastic once again, this guy is phenomenal, have no fear about buying things from him! Definitely one of the very best on this forum, an absolute gent too Thanking you again Mart, muchas appreciated! Very grateful for your help mate! Best wishes, Matt
17. Hmmm sure I remember that thread! Yeah, as soon as I got my first Overwater bass, it kinda made the Westfield redundant(as it would). Seen as if it didn't sell, I wasn't going to have serious money issues, I didn't really push it... it was more, if someone fancied it, your welcome to it. Some guy at college wants a bass, so he's buying it. Its been sat in my room for about 2 or so years now in its case. Anyway, that eras over haha Cheers Chris!
18.
It's that Westfeild Precision you've always wanted isn't it
Im afraid I've sold my last one, and did miss its fantastic unique tone and playability...(ssssh!) As a matter of fact, i've just sold that bass to a mate at college for £70 Im happy!
19.
It's not that Fretless Wal sixer is it by some chance?
I wish!!
It looks like one of those cardboard box double basses...
Close
20. The bass arrived lunch time today anyway! I'm absolutely made up with it, as to me as an Overwater enthusiast you could say, it is extremely special in my eyes, and I feel extremely lucky to own her! It belonged to fellow forum member 'Woodster', and Chris was kind enough to sell me the bass, which I am massively greatful for, as I know it was a special bass for him too! Chris W is an absolute true friend, and it has been the best experience being able to purchase one of his basses also!! I will get some pictures done soonish if anyone interested in seeing some here? Shes a Progress Elite model, not sure of exact age, but is the very first 7 string Overwater made, Sycamore body (some nice figure) with stunning flamed Ash front and back facings, 3 piece maple through neck, gold Schaller hardware and Overwater bridge. Pics can't do the bass justice at all, as with any bass, seeing a bass in the flesh, the figure and true beauty of the timbers and the construction just jump out, and look just awesome! I'm going to contact Chris May for more details on the bass, but she plays like a dream! Absolutely phenomenal! I am going to trip up to Carlisle sometime and probably have the action adjusted on my Progress 6 to match the 7, as this one is fantastic! Chris said 'touch sensitive' and I feel that definitely sums up the playability and action, its unbelievable! The sound is definately a nice Progress bass signature sound, although a bit more hi-fi perhaps than my 6.. still lovely, warm and fat tone, and a lower register to die for! Lovely even tone across the neck, trying to think of more things to say to sum up how awesome it is! Anyway, sorry if this has been a bit boring, but this thread is merely me expressing my passion for a phenomenal bass, that in my books is extremely special and means a huge amount to me! Here's some of the pics that Chris W sent me anyway, which he did a great job of... and i'l try to get some myself, although I need to get a new 'bass family' pic... Thankyou very much for showing interest anyway! Best wishes, Matt
21. Ahhhhh, Dont do that Mert! In an hours time, my bank account will closely resemble £0.00 after paying for the bass! I think i'l have to do with a badge for now, and keep dreaming! Has the 4x8 gone yet? I do hope not!! I'd definitely take that later this year once the balance goes up again!! What other are you selling? Do you have any green stuff left at all ?? Thanks for the greeeeeat feedback again mate! It actually makes me sound like im a nice guy...if only people knew the truth Thanks again Mert! I'l be sat under the letter box waiting for the badge in the morning!
22. The Tracey 4x8 sounds immense!! My combo is phenomenal, especially paired with a 1x15 cab!! I was doubtful about how good it would be, but it really is very very good, and has a beautiful top end, which prevents the need for a horn/tweeter.. has a more rounded warmer top end. I love mine!! The four blobs in the middle are sound.... Buy It Buy It Buy It Buy It Buy It Buy It Buy It Buy It Buy It Buy It Buy It Buy It Buy It Buy It!!!!!!!
23. Ahh, sad to see this is having to go Mert... it's a shame! I'd love to have bought this, I'l make sure I get the lottery on this weekend!!! I think a new bass will be money better spent right now... Pics.. If its any use, I still have these ones- Good luck with the sale! It'd better go to a good home!!!
24.
Martin-Matt-Mike is the order this will go - anyone whose name doesn't begin with M can p*ss off!
haha!!! Nice!
