Advice on 5 string (400-600 budget, growl)
Fishfacefour replied to trickythump's topic in Bass Guitars
Excuse the blatant promotion, I have a nice cort b5 artisan in the for sale section. It was my first 5 string and was a good intro. Ergonomically it's brilliant. It fits my body well and balances perfectly. Much less awkward than a jazz me. I've tried to sell it a few times and make the mistake of playing it before sending it off. I'm only selling it as I'm totally skint at the moment and it doesn't really suit my retro band. Let me know if you want more info. -
Sold an Ashdown grail short scale to Benedict. Great buyer, lots of good questions and turned out we ok new each other IRL from years back. Cheers

Had to give this a go last night. Lots of fun!

Hi everyone, Just wondered what approaches you have when the tempo starts to drag unexpectedly. We currently have one or two songs in our ska band that occasionally slip. I try to push the beat with a hope to pick it back up to tempo, but this can mess with the feel. What do you do? Thanks

I've tried to sell this a few times and changed my mind... But it has to go now! Really beautiful burgundy red colour on an open pore swamp ash body. Resonant, light and nicely balanced. 5 piece walnut and panga panga neck and roasted maple fretboard. Bartolini mk 1 pickups with markbass preamp. Any questions let me know. Cheers

Enhanced pic from our gig on Saturday: Warwick star bass fretless > tuner> jhs pulp n peel comp> house peavey 300w 15" combo. Rattly, mid Focussed and loud enough on the small stage but pa support was massive adding the required weight for the ska and reggae set. Katana perched on top for the guitarist sounded good too. -
First gig with the first wave ska band the Long Shots supporting ska punk band Rudebeard. Pretty decent turn out considering the trains were off after the storm. We played pretty well for a debut, lots of really positive comments. Played my Warwick star bass fretless through the rattly house peavey combo, but the sound guy did a great job. This was my first proper gig for over 12 years so pleased it went so well.

Argh, hate choosing band names. We've been offered our first gig but we need a name sharpish. They've all been terrible.

Just discussed doing a ska version of Cissy Strut (Cissy Skank?) so going to dust that off.

Yep, dobly atmos, underdubbed and stereo.

Yes tidal is a definite step up in sound quality and from April they're making their hi res content available as part of the normal pricing tier rather than a more expensive tier. I tried qobuz but the step up in quality didn't justify the added cost imo. Spotify are also the worst at payouts to artists I believe.

I've got D'Addario tapes on my Warwick star bass. The fit is very tight, the silks start halfway through the nut, but they sound and feel great.

I recently got a 32" Warwick star bass, it feels just right for my hands. It's a perfect middle ground between 34" and short scale.

Oh that's a shame. I quite fancied trying one of these. I've got a short scale ashdown Jazz, the pickups on that are excellent. -
