1. No it's dark grey. It might seem a strange colour scheme but it works, quite classy.
2. I'd say it's 1. Not original and 2. it's authentic, which is different. Peter
3.
All i can say is WOW!!!!
+1
4. I'm looking to sell my Les Evans 4 string. The bass was made for a customer (not me) by this Liverpudlian Luthier. It has a beautifully sculpted body with very high quality Schaller hardware including an adjustable bridge. The neck width at the nut is 1 3/8". It's active with a John East U-Retro that has bass, treble and sweepable mids. There are switches for active/passive blend and a bright setting. Pickups are Kent Armstrong. The neck definately has some wenge in it and is a 7 laminate with a 6 bolt fixing. The finish as you can see is a dark grey that with the gold hardware looks remarkably classy in an understated way. There are no 'dings' in the finish and only slight marking on the rear of the bass. Here's some photo's: If memory serves correctly I paid a little over £600 for this bass (it was a part trade deal) but given the present market I'm looking for £450 plus delivery. It comes with a well padded gig bag and a Levi leather strap complete with matching straplocks. If you're near you're welcome to try it out/collect. Peter
5. Now we are talking skinny necks aren't we? Here's a few shots of my Les Evans 'Jazz' that is about 1 3/8" at the nut. The bridge and tuners are very high quality Schaller units. The neck is a 7 laminate construction with a 6 bolt fixing: Peter
6. Apols as I haven't checked out the video but surely depending on your technique the two can become one and the same? Peter
7. Hiya Edd how are you? I have a superb bass that has J style pickups but a very svelte body shape and a neck slightly thinner than a Jazz. It was made as a custom bass by a luthier in Liverpool. It even has an adjustable bridge. It's fitted with a John East U-Retro with active/passive balance, bright switch and sweepable mids. If you are interested pm me. I can get some photos done. You'd be welcome to pop over/meet up to try it out. It's in great nick too. Peter
8. Les Claypool - Heavy Metal ??? Geezer for me.

13.
im not sure about members new to the site being allowed to enter into this, i mean if someone who signed up yesterday who nobody knows send the tenner and wins it, i wouldnt be best pleased! But of course then theres the decision of when a member is 'known' enough for him/her to enter..... complicated.
Why is anyone who joins tomorrow any less valid a person that you Kev!
14. The 'Tonepump' imo is great, it's full on mid biased bass. Spector aren't green and they didn't ignore the competition when they conceived this pre amp. From the platform of a strong mid frequency it gives you the ability to add tons of bass and treble. These basses are always going to be 'out there' in the mix and that maybe isn't a bad thing. We would be the 1st to complain when an instrument doesn't 'cut the mustard' and I can think of a few manufacturers that might apply to. It makes a change for us bassists to complain when a bass it too hot Peter
15.
Yep, I once pulled out my bed so I could hoover underneath it when I was s'posed to be writing an essay
Jeez, THAT bad eh!
16. Jeez Anndra I can't believe anyone made snidey comments. The girls are a bonus but your gear is always sound. I'm no Fender fan but that is a beaut without doubt.
17. Hmmm... Mung beans anyone?
18. I've emailed PJ and he's away at NAMM until the 19th.
19.
I'll wait until Al updates his before I do mine.
Chicken!
20. As I'm sure you are aware Al the ACG pre will give you a much wider spectrum of tones. The only possible problem I see is the existing active pickups. Alan at ACG or John East would be able to advise you here. I like the tone pump for what it is but if you are a one bass covers all the bases type of guy then I can see the issue. I've read through the thread on TB and don't totally go with it. I'm sure some guys don't 'read the tin' and appreciate that the tone controls are boost only and then think about the significance of this. I'd say check out the switch option 1st (I'm going to check it out myself). It probably won't have any resale implication and could be the cheapest, easiest and most Spectoracular way of getting something more versatile. Pedro
21. I hate to go on about this and, I really shouldn't but.... I'm busy writing an essay, behind me is the Harlot, all my other basses are put away (I normally have 3 out at once) and you know, the Amboyna burl gets more beautiful every time I turn around. It is so classy. Yep it is THE most beautiful creation. Have you every noticed when you're writing an essay any distraction is grasped? Peter
22. The mighty niner. I'm looking forward to it too. Soon. Then Dave's beast. Those single coils are going to sing
23. Wenge and bubinga aren't light I love wenge (Alan may not).
24.
what did you think was wrong with it?
It's a Fender? Runs away before anyone can catch me
