1. Yep I'm single okay. I wonder why? My other bikes and basses are in the spare room
2.
A Price is nice!
I agree, but such is the nature of these things I'm not sure of the value. Rics tend to fetch a fair amount and interest would be an indicator of desirability. What would YOU suggest
3. Jeez.... well done that man! I'm selling basses, reducing collection, saving money, poor student, getting a life etc. but if I'd have seen it for £150 BIN I'd have jumped too.
4. my rather stunning Rickenbacker 4003 Mapleglo. It's a 2006 model with the Vintage Tone Control. If you look closely you can see that it is sporting a delightful little number by way of a 'Pickguardian' bridge pup surround (gives greater access and doesn't leave an unsightly hole) and those truly observant of you may note that it has a superior Hipshot bridge (easier intonation adjustment and greater stability). It's pretty much immaculate except for a couple of tiny marks on the neck where it fell off the stand - doh! I'm determined to get my collection down to 10 and as I already have two other Ric's I'm considering letting it go. I have the original bridge and 'Horseshoe' as well as the Ric case. Anyone interested? Oh and it's the one on the left Peter
5.
I think OBBM has had a Lakland routed to take a P from a Darkstar, maybe he'll chime in with some wisdom.
I think that was a Duck Dunn originally with the Darkstar. I now have that very DS in my Warmoth and I think that Dave went back to a P pup (Wizard?)
6. I've just been 'chatting' with Al (Niceguyhomer) about Alan Cringeon's ACG filter based pre-amps as featured in BGM this month and it occurred to me the real difference between his pre and the more usual 2/3 EQ systems (or even passive controls come to that) found both inboard and outboard of a bass. With an ACG filter based pre you 'produce' your tone, the tone you want. With a 2/3+ EQ system you 'tweak' it. Just a thought really, that I thought was worth sharing.
7. Very nice and I think 'white is right'.
8. "Smoke on the Water" I know, I should've done it years ago. Last week it was "Apache"
9.
PHWOAR!!
You know BBC, a thank you cause yet again you made me laugh out loud. You know IncX I'd give a lot to have straight black hair (any hair would be good). Have you got the Vampyre yet?
10. Mmmmm... very nice
11. That's one amazing piece of work there Ross. As a 4 string limited player (better word than musician in my case) I wouldn't actually know what to do with one (except prod at the strings making noise) but I can really appreciate the ascetics and the quality of the work. I never drop my basses but I'd be paranoid of dropping that on its lower horn. I think the back in particular is visually quite stunning. So Ross, are there any pics of your own beast out there? Found the thread, loving that top horn design. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...eting&st=80 If I were well wealthy I'd love to commission a bass from Jim and Robbie to compliment my ACG (or three). There's something about daring to be different and treading a slightly more interesting path imo. We bassists do seem to be, in the main, a very conservative lot. I'm sure Jazz basses are all fine and dandy (I do have one) but the idea of getting yet another Jazz/Precision lookalike made doesn't appeal. If I wanted a Jazz I'd be straight on the phone to Warmoth anyway as I did with my totally immense 54P/Jazzneck/Darkstar. Peter
12. Birthday boy enjoy the new bass. Happy Birthday too
13. Wow this is gonna be very nice. In that I know it'll look nice but... Being an ex Harlot owner with my new one in the pipeline looks aint everything because as well as looking stupendous it's gonna sound awsome, balance, have a great neck and just be generally all round amazing in terms of quality of construction, ergonomics etc. Mine's not far off and I'm excited in case you can't tell Peter
14. For a moment I thought you had a set of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana fashion strings.
15. There are many that say they prefer the tone of the 2EQ. They'll be along in a bit
16. Good to have you back!
17.
You could actually come to the forum and talk to us about the matter (and ARGH) instead of slagging us off on here.
Absolutely. At least you'd have an opportunity to criticise in an informed way for a change Oh and apologies, this stuff doesn't belong in this thread. This thread is about a celebration and rightly so.
18. That's not at all silly Carla. I do know what you mean. Theres a couple of odd ballad type songs the guys I jam with do and playing root A over a Am chord sounds quite wrong. I've had success using a minor 3rd, 5th or minor 7th instead. If you're talking say Am the minor third is C, the 5th E and the minor 7th G. The pattern obviously follows throughout. Peter
19. That Buckeye Burl really is a bit special. Interesting the way Bernie builds the bass around the nect and then cuts out the body shape. My new bass has a burl front , Amboyna (Hondo Mahogany body, Flamed Maple rear). It's at the spraying stage as we speak and I'm gettin' pretty excited I can tell ya.
20. Well Hamster you can be John Nettles. I prefer Nigel myself
21. Yep Sarah, what they all said, welcome back and with ref being single I'm sure that someone as stunning as yourself AND a bassplayer won't be single for long I think it's overrated as it 'appens. Singledom that is not bass.
22. I'm with Bilbo. Let's celebrate the return of the bass to it's righful owner. Berating Jake says more about those who need to keep on doing it than it does about Jake himself. Judging people totally on their behaviour is often flawed in my experience. I've met guys I've liked who've done far worse. I don't expect you all to agree with this btw
23.
John Entwistle's sound in his later years springs to mind!
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=TVl39LBZGMw http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IfDE-ZvfOwU&...feature=related
24. Ref the big fan, I had my amp running for 3 hrs and it didn't kick in. Amp wasn't at all hot. The doughnut's a Feck off transformer
25. And very likely sold too! Peter
