1. Excellent bit of explanation BigRedX. This needs to be preserved somewhere
2. Well the thing is I didn't rest my thumb on the cover anyway. I used the front pickguard for the E string and then go down the strings with my thumb. That position was tonally too near the neck. I'm now playing where the cover was and using the new perspex cover to reat the thumb on. The tone is definately better to me there. I'm not removing the cover from either my Chris Squire or my C64S though although this bass is crying out for flatwounds, they sound amazing on the C64S.
3. I've got home today and my Ric 'Pickguardian' pickup cover has arrived so I've spent a while fitted it and the Hipshot bridge as well. I bought the bridge recently from Jon (Bassasin) and have been waiting for the cover to turn up from the States for a while. The bridge is a very solid piece of chromed brass weighing in at 630g as opposed to the Ric bridge at 313g! I can actually adjust the intonation now The removal of the bridge pickup cover does obviously give greater access but at the expense of a great big hole around the pickup. The Pickguardian sorts it nicely. All completely reversable too. So all set up and playing very well here she is:
4. Brilliant, thanks for the quick answer.
5. And here's my ACG too
6. Just checking on the meaning here, a bit like the only one in class asking the question I hope. Unity gain, do you mean restoring the volume in for out after compression? Peter
7. All you need now Steve is a stereo Ric so you can send each pickup through a different set up amp
8. I've got a non export white one. Bought it from on eBay from a registered Fender dealer. Very nice bass.
9. Here's a link to the Waterstone Guitars site. It's worth a look. Expensive I suspect, very nice though, a black Indra, now that would look good. http://www.waterstoneguitars.com/index.shtml
10. Alan That'd be a damn good idea, let me know a bit nearer the date if you're coming down.
11. Oooh, I particularly like that Semi I was knocking around Hook Norton's brewery doing repairs in 1977 Is the Sun still there?
12. St Anne's Alan, on the West coast. I'm assuming that's Lytham St Annes. I've never been there but it's close will be a new experience. Not really been to Blackpool come to that, or Morercambe
13. Hmmmm... ACG Harlot 5 Bob Glaub Villex/Villex A Ric, either 4003 or 4001C64S Something older when I've had a think. Hopefully I can use someone elses gear as it seems pointless bring another amp/cab.
14. I've gone up to 18 with my Warmoth body and neck on the way next week. And I'm a bloody therapist! A happy one
15.
I've got one of the cheaper Funk Machine IIs and I wouldn't part with it.
Okay Steve, accepted. BUT, which one of your basses would you part with?
16. That'd be good for me too.
17.
Forgive me for being rude......What`s your degree in mate?
There you go, I've corrected your question for you
18. It's not just you, the list of people who've had problems with the Bass centre is long and not pretty. Myself included.
19.
If I was in the market for a P I wouldn't consider anything else!
If the NW mini bash comes to fruition I thought I'd bring along my Villex/Villex Bob Glaub By nice to see how it compares with the DS.
20. I think OBBM has one, but it may have a Darkstar in it? I love the Bob Glaub and suspect that the DD is a very fine bass.
21. I bought a Blue TRB6 from Stu many moons ago. A really genuine guy. Straight as can be and about as tall as a very tall thing.
22. 16th would mean a possible stop over/beer/curry option otherwise I'm okay with dates
23. Sounds like a good plan
24. Knives are a huge no no. Not worth the risk so don't be tempted. I'm ex Plod btw.
25. Hiya back Dave from a Limey. The important bit, if you want a good nuclear supper (fission chips) you'll need to try a few 'chippies' to get a really good one. I prefer haddock and chips as it's a tastier fish but its not always available and most go for cod and chips. When they say 'salt and vinegar?' just nod or say yes. Bass prices here will all be higher than the US I suspect, including Warwicks. The US is a much bigger customer and prices are usually adjusted to disadvantage us poor Euro peons. Your best bet as already said would be to keep an eye on the forums. A Brit luthiers custom bass often comes up at a reasonable price 2nd hand and would be a really nice 'special' bass to take back to the US. Luthiers to watch out for, ACG, Bernie Goodfellow (GB), Shuker, Sei, RJM and I know others will add to the list. I have an ACG and can't rate it too highly. Brighton is a hoot, a centre of depravity! If you bring a JetGlo 4001 over I'll gladly pay your bus fare to take it off your hands. Oh and I'm sure you'll get used to our 'sense of humour'. Peter
