  1. 3 bass cab cables. Made by Dave (OBBM) who markets as 'Rock-Wire'. All in excellent condition and barely used. From the top £8, £9 & £7 delivered to the UK. 2 x 1 metre and 1 x 0.5 metre.
  2. I sold Shaun my Uber spec ACG Finn 5. Payment was very prompt, great communication, very accommodating and a lovely man. Use with absolute confidence. Thank you Shaun. Peter
  3. I was about to ask you how the Finn was Shaun but I see that it's beaten me to it. Magnificent is so very apt. Enjoy. A pleasure.

I'm starting this thread for Phil who I met today. I believe that selling me his 88 Thumb NT was the start of his bass selling BC career. Lovely guy, very genuine. The bass? Well Warwick Thumbs of this vintage aren't manufactured. They are grown from a single crystal in a dark cave, nurtured by wee dwarves who finish them using a tiny adze. It is amazing. Heavy as iron (not steel, but wrought iron), growls like a complete bastard, has a neck as long as the Millau Viaduct and a Wenge fretboard as black as a burnt bone in the above mentioned dark cave, deep in the sea, on the night of a lunar eclipse. Totally and tonally awesome. Thank you Phil, a pleasure. The bass is even nicer than the photos. Note to self, it's hard to photograph a wax finished bass using a flash. Peter
  5. Yes I should have been clearer and used the correct terms. For my Neutrik please read Speakon.
  6. Thanks. I chatted with Dave on this. My Jacks are Neutrik ones but he reckons that much above 100 watts means that Neutrik are better at transmitting the power. So I'm saving, and my old cables will be up for sale soon
  7. I have let all my good, OBBM Neutrik to Neutrik speaker cables go with amps and cabs I have sold a while back. I'm left with 2 or 3 heavy duty OBBM 'Rock-Wire' Neutric to jack cables and a skinny generic double Neutrik lead. I'm thinking that now I've got a rig together again I need to invest in a pair of decent double Neutrik ended cables from Dave and put the others up for sale. But, aren't the ones with the jack on one end just as good? Is there any real advantage to Neutrik connectors over a simple jack on the cab end, given that movement isn't an issue? Peter
  8. That's a bargain price for a US G&L
  9. Shaun (skb558) pointed out that the bass doesn't seem to have a forearm contour. Indeed it does although it's not obvious from the phots. Here's some bubinga/wenge sandwich with a little maple butter:
  10. Needless to say, a trade with a high spec 4 string ACG would be seriously considered.
  11. An update with reference the weight of this bass. It is 11.4lbs. I've been away from the market for a while. Is it just me or has the price of 2nd hand basses recovered significantly in the past two years or so. Looking about I feel that I may have underpriced this top spec craftsman hand built bass. Peter
  12. I'm far from certain that I'm doing the right thing here. I had a couple of years off from even looking at a bass, due to band driven stress from all the mucking about with no gigs in sight. Thankfully my bass mojo returned and I'm starting to play with a bunch of like minded old fellas. I'm only playing 4 string basses. I think that's where I'm comfortable and it fills my needs. My best bass by some degree has 5 strings hence my post here. This bass is as it was purchased except for a filter pre amp one Mk up again (it was released as my bass came to fruition). It comes with a Hiscox case too. It has a flat radius board, 18mm spacing and plays like a dream. Complex tones are available with the filter pre and 20 coils of pickup on hand. The bass even has a passive switch and a passive tone (batteries are required to power the pickups). 34" scale with a 7 piece neck that is ultra stable. I modelled the woods from my Warwick Thumb and it has that growl which is great. This bass has presence in spades... It's no lightweight. It was never intended to be but I'm skinny and I find it sits well on a strap and balances perfectly. If it doesn't sell I'm going to be working on my B string use... Original photos from Alan's site until I get some done in the next few days. It's not changed.. 13. It took only a few minutes to put the amp in the case this morning. A £2.36 length of foam insulation from B&Q, cut into lengths and halved means that the amp is firmly sat on a cushioned base of 6 'half segments' with the front screws only holding it in place and not taking the considerable weight. I'm happier anyway
  14. Thank you all. I will check out the feet on the bottom versus the desirability of rear support when I cast my own engineering eye over it. I don't even have the case yet. I was wanting to know if I need to get any other bits in to do the job properly hence my seeking advice. I'm not an engineering numpty. Engineering honours degree followed by a Post Grad Diploma in Nuclear Technology and proceeded by C&G Mechanic & Technician and a B-Tec Diploma..... Nowadays I just tinker with motorbikes Peter
  15. Yes, despite the earlier slightly patronising comment, a heavy amp supported on its faceplate alone, acting cantilever like, isn't ideal from an engineering perspective in terms of loads on components especially if as you say, it's given a shock load. I'll have a think when I get it fitted. It's possible that the feet will rest on the base I guess.
  16. Thank you What bulb is it? I'll get some spares.... Peter
  17. Now, I've done this before (not with this amp)and I perhaps should know the answers to my own question. Maybe senility is kicking in but can someone help me here? A have an EBS Fafner. It's a big lump and I need to put it in a rack case (4U to allow adequate ventilation evidently). I don't have the case yet but it'll hopefully be with me soonish. I anticipate that the front amp chrome 'ears' that the Fafner already has will mount on the front plates on either side using captive nuts and screws. That leaves the hefty rear of the amp unsupported (or am I missing something). I emailed EBS about a fitting kit and they tell me that the case fittings are all I need. There's also no obvious mounting points for 'ears' to the rear of the amp. I'm looking for some advice, do I need to get any extra bits and pieces before the case arrives? Thanks in anticipation. Peter
  18. Thank you Patrick for great communication and a smooth transaction. The amp was extremely well packaged. A pleasure. Peter
  19. Some interesting themes here. I came from an 'unmusical family' according to my parents. I struggled at school but music was a favourite lesson. I remember doing a musical aptitude test in year 9 and coming out near the top. Mr Harris had a trombone that needed a fiver deposit to secure but my folks said no. (My parents said no a lot). So the itch was always there. A life in the RN meant being very unsettled and occupied. When I left and became a copper in Plymouth I was on my beat looking in Manson's in College Avenue. Ralph sold me a Hohner Jack and the rest followed on. I thought that bass would be easier than guitar (our rhythm guitarist makes me realise that it's not the case). The point I take from this is that all we can ever do is now. Those most successful are those that apply themselves in the now. The now becomes the past with a purpose.
  20. I know it well. Been there many times over the years and my Mum spent her final years there. I've just discovered that an old mate (Eric Launder) lives there now. I was a Mersea Islander so not so far, as the crow flies.
  21. Just wondering where in NE Essex you are Chezz. We're a similar age and I hail from NE Essex.
  22. Me too, although I was only just over 40.
  23. If you could go back in time musically and, knowing what you do now would bass be your choice of instrument? I was thinking that I am probably more naturally a drummer. It's not realistic now but looking back I'm probably better suited to being behind the kit.
  24. Many thanks. The amp hasn't actually arrived yet. When it's all checked out I'll contact EBS. As you say it's a big beast! Peter
  25. Thank you. Wise advice about rack mounting and I've considered this. I've read that a 4U case is best for cooling. Not having a rack kit is stopping me going in that direction. Do you know where I can buy one? Peter
