  1. The British Legion up by the police station on the main road. We saw a lot of ultimately famous bands in there over the years. South Harrow Market also had the best second hand record stall in North London. I bought a great collection of American label blues and R&B 45’s in there. Wish I still had them.
  2. I’ve been using a Hellion Li'l Moxie for a couple of years with no issues. Smallish pedal board including a SansAmp. Saves trailing wires and it’s nice and quiet.
  3. Very early in the 60’s probably 62, a school mate and I managed to sneak in to a club in South Harrow to see some R&B band whose name I can’t recall. We were very much under age but we knew the guy on the door. The advertised band didn’t show and up on stage was Alexis Korners Blues band. There was some initial dissatisfaction amongst the audience but the band soon won everyone over. They were amazing. Korner sat on a chair to one side for most of the evening with a cheroot permanently sticking out of his mouth, and Cyril Davies looked dressed for a day digging up roads but boy could he play the harmonica and sing the blues. His harmonica mic was going into a little red Watkins Westminster amp. I had one of those at the time. Not very good for bass. I don’t know who else was in the band that night, but Long John Baldry was the main vocalist.
  4. Comparing most social media to Basschat, there is a noticeable difference in the quality of posts. For a start pretty much everyone in here can spell and has a pretty good grasp of grammar. I have a number of social media accounts, none use my real name or personal details. I rarely look at any of them these days except for one FB account I use to repost news of upcoming gigs. Someone else posts the originals.
  5. Thanks for putting this up, I would never have found it. Amazing how much drink and nicotine they consume. Great watch.
  6. I practice with the KZ ZS10 Pros’ I use on gigs, with a Focusrite and a MacBook Pro. For listening to music off the iPhone a pair of Anker Bluetooth buds. I also have a pair of AKG K240’s used occasionally for watching videos on an iPad.
  7. I know where I was working that year and the car tape player had two of Warren Zevon’s finest on permanent play. Excitable Boy and the eponymous first album Warren Zevon. Volume up and let’s have a singalong. Some pop and rock royalty on those albums alongside Zevon. .
  8. Thanks for the offers but I’ll hang to them as spares as there is still one other bass here that still uses them as it prefers low tension strings. And honestly I don’t think you’d like them, they’re not in the best condition as they’ve been on and off more times than the proverbial loose woman’s knickers.
  9. Lately Waitrose and Fortnum and Mason but Waitrose wins. I put TI Jazz flats on three basses, replacing La Bella DTB’s but after a few weeks the old played in La Bella’s are back on all of them and the TI’s are back in the packets. An interesting experiment but for me ultimately a waste of money.
  10. Just read the news, Jimmy Buffet has passed away. One of the most fun gigs I ever went to in London. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-66694147
  11. ZS10 Pro are very popular. I find them perfect for me at gigs. Don’t have any knowledge of the Pro X though.
  12. Interesting thread, I hope you find it. I’ve been looking for the 1996 EBMM Stingray I bought new in New York when it was only a few days old, and foolishly sold on eBay to someone in Scotland a few years later. Sometimes I do stupid things.
  13. Graham Nash at the Del La Warr Pavilion Bexhill last night. Accompanied by Todd Caldwell on Hammond and other keyboards and Shane Fontayne with various guitars. No drums or bass. Some great songs from CSN&Y, The Hollies and others. Including a stunning a Capella version of Everyday from all three of them. Plus a few stories as well. Full house, standing ovations well deserved. He can still hit the high notes.
  14. Hannah Williams and The Affirmations
  15. Rye Jazz and Blues Festival. A last minute decision yesterday afternoon to take a drive over to Rye to see if we could catch a couple of gigs. The fabulous Hannah Williams was in fine form with The Affirmations. Chris Axe playing what looks like a very old P bass and a Jack Casady as a backup. Which he didn’t play. Followed by The Drawtones with a ripping set of classic jazz with a big chunk of funk. A very enjoyable evening was had by all including the dog.
  16. I use KZ’s and don’t have any issues with hearing the bass. But as long as I can hear it I’m not too bothered about the quality. I know it sounds ok out front as I eq that on the mixer myself.
  17. I always understood rechargeable batteries were not suitable for active guitars and have never used them. However my guitarist friends Acoustasonic has one as standard that charges through a usb socket next to the output jack.
  18. You’ve got me worried now. We play this regularly and I found easy, but I’ve never actually really listened to the original. What have I missed. Bugger I’ll have to go listen to it now.
  19. Limited Edition. Marketing speak for “hurry up and buy one before we reduce the price because we couldn’t sell them at full price.”
  20. Ha. Yes all those youngsters come along and change the names of things. Very annoying. 🙂
  21. Crikey I had no idea they were still about. I saw them once long ago and it was an excellent show
  22. We didn’t get to hear much of the music but the festival looked like a lot of fun.
