  1. I put Nordstrand Big Singles in my SR900. Straight swap for the Bart’s. The pre amp isn’t great but the bass now has a much better tone all round.
  2. When I read that I first thought you were leaving a gig in a taxi. Then I read some more
  3. I got tickets today to see Lulu in October. 2023. I hope we’re both still alive by then, hate to think I wasted the money.
  4. I bought an MM Stingray when I was in New York in September 1996. The serial dated it to September 10 1996. So about as new as you can get. Lovely looking instrument, sounded awful and clanky to me most of the time despite a professional setup. Probably me but I could never get it to sound the way I wanted. I played it on and off, mostly off, for about 3 years before selling it and reverting to my Jazz full time. I have considered getting another one from time to time for a wall decoration. Cheaper than a Rick.
  5. According to my daughter, despite All The Amazing Attractions, music aside, at Glastonbury these days, it’s still pretty poor compared to Burning Man. Which she has so far failed to drag me along to unless she can hire a large RV. I do not do tents, especially not in a bloody desert.
  6. Shouldn’t a Jazz from that year and finish be Alder. I thought ash was only used for natural finishes around that time, which would make it heavier. My early ‘72 natural is over 10lbs.
  7. That’s mostly down to the Southern God Botherers bothering their senators concerned with their job security.
  8. My wife is practically tone deaf. Can’t hold a tune in a bucket. I’m sending her out as a Diana Ross tribute act next week.
  9. She was doing the same at the jubilee concert. Great band, who is that front and centre on bass? He’s getting plenty of screen time.
  10. This has to be the worst legends spot ever, surely.
  11. Ah ok my fault then. Shows how much out of current music I am, I’ve never even heard of St Vincent. But the island is very nice.
  12. I once had a chrome set off a Telecaster guitar on my Jazz but it was a long time ago.
  13. In that case I apologise I was obviously mis informed as to who I was watching. I’ve never seen Billy Eilish and I’m not familiar with her music. My comments apply to whoever it was.
  14. Yes. I’m sure she has talent to have got where she is so young. Not my bag either, and I would have probably switched off anyway. But I found the visuals incredibly annoying and added nothing to the performance. Except may be for some pre pubescent kids and dirty old men.
  15. I have seen Robert Plant and Allison Krause live in smaller venues and it’s a really exceptional show. Yesterday the musicianship was amazing but the vocal levels were way too low. You can never rely on the BBC to get live sound right. Apart from a a few minutes of Eilish I have yet to watch anything else.
  16. If she dropped the rather silly and not very attractive backing singers and just concentrated on singing instead of trying to be sexy I might have paid more attention. But I switched her off when she finally realised she’d forgotten to plug her guitar in. All that bumping and grinding on stage is getting rather tiresome and outdated. If you want to watch dancing watch Strictly.
  17. Your guess is as good as mine, probably better. What would that signify anyway? I have never been able to decipher anything else on there. All the original pots and wiring were junked years ago when they became unreliable. There’s nothing else on it beyond the name stamps of the guys who put it together. All were working at Fender in the late 60’s early 70’s.
  18. Ooo shiny. I was always drawn to those aluminium necks.
  19. Ok how do you get that because I could never make out any thing beyond the figure 72. The serial on the neck plate is 375337 and I have always assumed 72.
  20. I bought this pre owned from a music shop in North London in 1981. As you can see it has been well used and is no longer completely original. Bits have been replaced due to them breaking, wearing out or simply ceasing to work. All the wood is original as is the bridge. It still plays and sounds amazing. See what you can make of the neck stamp:-)
  21. No but it’s good to know it’s on before you start the song.
  22. Playing outside gigs in the sunshine is great. But if you’ve got pedals at your feet it’s often impossible to see the power lights. So any creative ideas to overcome this or do we just have to stand on one foot and use the other to try and shade the pedal to see if its on?
  23. One fairly new to me 32” scale Aria TSB650 from 1979 next to my ‘72 Jazz. Both strung with TI jazz flats but the Aria thumps and growls like no Jazz bass ever has. Those pickups are amazing. It’s a dream to play and is my current gigging machine.
