  1. Powering pedals with battery power, you need one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PLKPTNC?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_T1_CK8NPQ3234609584KTSD plus a power pack used to power up a phone. Gives you a pedal board with no trailing wires, and will easily power several pedals for more than your average gig. I’ve been using one for a couple of years, it’s brilliant. Oh and there is no hum or ground loop to worry about.
  2. I lived in the Fens for 20 odd years. Could not wait to get the hell back to civilisation. 🙂
  3. No. The Stranglers weren’t punk, they were a pop group. They just threatened to kill any promoter who didn’t pay up at the end of the gig.
  4. Isn’t that like saying modern R&B isn’t really just pop music?
  5. Seemingly a lot of us bass chatters in Sussex. It must be the sea air. Welcome aboard
  6. By coincidence there is a thread about these on r/bass today. I’d never been aware of such a thing until now. I tend to play at the end of the fretboard and sometimes over the last few frets depending on the required tone. Something like this might be useful positioned at the end of the fretboard but most seem designed to fit between pickups so no use to me.
  7. Way back when I started gigging there were no tuners except pitch pipes or a tuning fork. so one guitar was tuned and the others tuned up to that. In the absence of either device one guitar was tuned to itself using the 5th frets, and rest tuned to it. We were almost certainly always not at 440 but hey, we were all in tune.
  8. Saw Tommy Emmanuel on Saturday. Quite astonishing guitar playing and very entertaining. Coming up during the year Gretchen Peters, Marty Stewart, Joe Satriani, The Blues Band, Jules Holland, Sandi Toksvig. there will no doubt be others as the year goes on.
  9. I think anyone here is good enough. No matter who made it or how much it cost, it’s just a bass guitar.
  10. The main difference is the attack. But with a little bit of EQ fettling and picking over the end of the fretboard works for me.
  11. Always annoys me when people talk about the fast lane and slow lane. They’re all the same, the outside lanes are the overtaking lanes. We drive on the left in this country and that’s where you should be unless overtaking.
  12. Most guitars have always been screwed together from parts pulled from bins. However all the parts were supposed to be on the same guitar.
  13. I was about to say similar. They have to justify the high price and bit of bent metal isn’t going to help the image.
  14. Not police, but I had a drummer who was in the regular army. Well I say regular, he was a drummer in the Life Guards band. Never missed any gigs, even on the queens birthday. He liked a drink too, but fortunately that never affected his playing.
  15. I actually like that. Is it worth the asking price? Not to me, it would have to be substantially cheaper before I considered buying it. The artist has to earn a living by selling the product and is free to set the price.
  16. Why would you buy this? It’s not as if it’s going to be unique, there will be hundreds of them in kids bedrooms. Is any serious musician going to fetch up to a gig with one of these? https://www.fender.com/en-GB/electric-guitars/stratocaster/30th-anniversary-screamadelica-stratocaster/0141063350.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20211109_ScreamadelicaUK&utm_term=fender&src=email45DT110921uk&smtrctid=728f11ab-2e47-44dc-b62a-d5a203dddfb0&c3ch=ecommemail&c3nid=20211109_ScreamadelicaUK
  17. That’s like saying a VW Beetle makes a good boat. It floats, but not for long.
  18. Most of them were unbelievably bad, but like all the other responses to the poll, that’s just a personal opinion.
  19. Last place you want to be at an indoor rock concert is in the front row. As long as the mixing desk is central in the venue as it should be, get yourself as close to it as possible. If they can hear everything ok, so will you.
  20. OnSong is probably the gold standard for this, but it’s not cheap. If you stop the screen turning off in settings, then scanning your notes into PDF’s will work. Saved onto the iPad the stock MacOS Preview app is a PDF viewer. The main issue with this option is difficulty sorting the notes into any particular order. And scrolling if a note covers more than one page.
