  1. I saw Peter Bruntnell at a festival in Edinburgh a few years ago, alongside Steve Earle and Emmylou Harris. To say he was seriously sartorially challenged is an understatement. The music was good and the anorak was disgusting. Steve Earle used to be good, I’ve seen him many times and played many of his songs live, but he’s turned into an opinionated bore. Emmylou was, and still is, great.
  2. And what’s more, I’ve just subscribed and card details on the payment page are black text on black background. Same iPad. Sorry. I’ll go away now.
  3. Simple solution to this issue is put a link in the top menu. Supporting Membership
  4. Nope, at least not in Safari on an iPad Pro. iOS 14.7.1. Don’t know about the Mac yet.
  5. It’s unreadable on the dark theme.
  6. Not an amp suggestion but a possible solution to the power supply. The Li’l moxie converts the output from a typical portable usb power bank to 9v. I use one for a small pedalboard including a Sansamp BDDI and 3/4 Boss pedals. It will easily power more and with a suitable power bank lasts ages. Totally quiet too. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Converter-Pedals-Isolated-Rechargeable-Computer/dp/B07PLKPTNC
  7. Kicking off at 10pm after the Proms. Documentary around Don, an Arena special from 1984 plus the 1983 reunion concert at the Albert Hall.

    Busking.

Never done this before and I’ve been playing 50 plus years. Anyway the weather was fine yesterday so we went down to the sea front and set up on the prom. Guitar, bass and a Beat Buddy all battery powered through a small powered mixer and a couple of small powered speakers. 3 hours and we made 15 quid which more than covered the parking charge. Can’t say we attracted a crowd as it wasn’t very busy but people stopped to listen before walking on. And we enjoyed ourselves as neither of us have gigged in a long time.
  9. Quite clearly has a top quality plastic strap and a coiled lead.
  10. +1. I always stop whatever I’m doing if that comes on the radio.
  11. I’ve lost high frequencies which is typical of getting older. According to my wife who has Six Million Dollar hearing, I’m deaf because I can’t hear things she can. Including her sometimes. But generally I don’t have any serious loss of hearing that requires sticking any form of technology in my ears, which I’m pleased about as some friends of my age have two aids.
  12. SkyArts this afternoon. Don Henley Austin City Limits at 15.00. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. 2006 concert in Gainesville. At 18.20. This may be the concert featured in the Running Down a Dream documentary. If it is it’s well worth a watch.
  13. We had an electrician in the band. If a venue started asking questions he went round testing all the electric outlets before we plugged anything in. That usually stopped the questions. PLI is essential these days. In the UK the MU can help.
  14. You might be right. I don’t have a Precision to compare and don’t know anyone who has one.
  15. Pickfords will be expensive and the quality of service is up and down. The Panalpina suggestion is a good one, as they have been in business a long time and they are a proper freight forwarding company who also do overseas removals. They will ship it in a container along with other customers goods, unload at the port of entry or their depot and deliver to you. You can also ask them to pack it, which might be a good idea.
  16. My 72 Jazz is 10lbs. A P bass body is larger.
  17. Use a proper company that ships personal effects. Not a courier company. International removal companies will know how to do this. Your goods should be declared as personal effects, not new, with a reasonable declared value. As personal effects they will not attract any duties. Most UK based International removal companies will have contacts in European countries that can handle the Italian end for you. This used to be my profession.
  18. There’s never enough left in the bottle for a decent drink afterwards.
  19. When there’s enough money in the bank to buy a new set.
  20. I carried a stolen bar towel in the case for years. Wiped my hands and strings/neck periodically during a gig. Still have it. Fast Fret on strings between sessions.
  21. “Play something we know”. How the hell are you supposed to know what they know? What’s the point in playing the same stuff every other pub band plays.
  22. Joey Jordison, Slipknot’s founding drummer, dies at age 46 <https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/jul/28/slipknots-joey-jordison-corralled-chaos-with-his-explosive-talent> Slipknot we’re never my cup of tea but it’s always sad to hear this kind of news. Particularly when the person is younger than yourself.
  23. There’s a whole album full on “Benny Hill Sings?” Deliberately so and one of my favourite albums of all time. And who doesn’t like Ernie?
