Ed Sheeran wins Shape of You copyright case

Ah, irony! You wouldn't get away with that on TalkBass 😉 -
Ed Sheeran wins Shape of You copyright case

Yeah there was, but nobody went running to their lawyers over it (well, Taurus did of course). I just think modern day "musicians" who write a 3 minute song and think they've invented something new and unique are a bit up themselves that's all. It's probably just my age..... -

Yeah, but we were talking about Ed Sheeran remember? Nothing against ES but intellectual property? Come on! -

TBH, modern music is so utterly unadventurous and formulaic, the songs are all clones of each other. No-one owns any of it. Added to which, if there was a judgement to be made on musical content, why on earth would you consult a lawyer? Or is it just me? -
KT Tunstall's live band are gas. We saw them supporting Santana a couple of years ago

Jaw droppingly good albums for bass players to hear
robscott replied to Bilbo's topic in General Discussion
I haven't heard any of those before but after you've gone to all the trouble to put them in alphabetical order I feel obliged to make the effort. Well done sir! -
OK, you can all give up the bass and go home now

I don't listen to these anymore, it's too depressing -
Well you can't really expect a thick B string to sound the same as the thinner E string, it's not there to give you a direct alternative. I play exclusively 5 string basses, and I don't go out of my way to use the B string, it's just there if I need it. A big fat B string will always have a slower response, more overtones, a duller overall tone and be somewhat more difficult to play faster passages on, but the trade off is that it gives you a different fingering option when playing certain patterns and it gets you down below the E when you need it. I think the key is to use the B string judiciously, only where it is the best or only option. For me the money is in the middle three strings, round about the 5th to 8th fret. YMMV

Sometimes those "impending car crash" gigs turn out to go really well. And they will all be off their faces by 10pm anyway, so just relax and enjoy! Hope the dreaded virus stays away, cancellations are our biggest enemy ATM

We played a Xmas function last night, it was a blast. We hammed it up for the punters - Saturday Night's Alright, Wish It Could Be Xmas, Livin La Vida Loca and all that, got about 60 people on the dance floor, the rest were outside vaping as usual or staring at their phones. The punters were a tough nut to crack at first (a bit of Covid caution we think) , but once they were up they were up for the entire night so that was a good result. Interesting point though, we had a last minute rethink of the setlist and decided to throw out Valerie as we thought it might cause a stampede to the bar. When we came to that point in our set our singer/guitarist, who starts that particular song off, forgot we'd axed it so we played it anyway and it turned out to be the number that got the party started. I mean, how can you sit through I Wish staring at your phone, then jump up and start dancing to Valerie? Nothing like knowing your audience (not!).

Is September 24th 1991 the greatest day in music history?
robscott replied to Supernaut's topic in General Discussion
Nah, nothin special about any of that. Not that they aren't good albums or anything but greatest day? gimme a break. Any day in 1967 was better, so was any day when Miles Davis was alive, Zep, the day when Robert Johnson went down to the Crossroads, Live Aid, come on man, Nirvana? -
Oh no! No no no no!
