Agreed . Return amp and refund postage . No other option IMO .

Not quite got the hang of that after 45years . Best I practice with a few more pints until I've nailed it . I love basschat for all these great ideas . 🍺

Yamaha everytime . You won't go wrong

Tim at East street music in Faversham is a star . Great fella to deal with .
-
It doesn't work for me . The perceived value is almost zero in my eyes .

The point I made was that all pots are equal electrically . There is , as you point out , a big difference in quality .
-
A pot is a pot . Normally log taper for volume and either log or linear for tone . And a cap is also just a cap . Electrically all pots are the same . Better quality such as CTS will be smoother and last longer .

My money is on them lying

Having witnessed the often reported appalling quality control of SBMM first hand , I think that its fair to say that if they are QC checking in the USA , which I am pretty sure they are not , then it is an absolute waste of time and money . I think you may have found the real reason that they say they QC in the USA .

That'll be one of the ones with janky tuners and non functioning truss rod . Apparently you pay extra for that .🤔
-
Thats OK . I hate them too . Poor QC . I have described them as musical firewood .

Using sleeves to pack out control knobs.

Using sleeves to pack out control knobs.

Just fixed an old Peavey PA up for a local bloke . They have 3/16 pot shafts and knobs are almost unobtainable . Used 1/4 knobs but applied a couple of small lengths of heatshrink to the 3/16 shaft . -
The 2 earths from the push/pull can go to any ground point . I would suggest that the back of one of the pots . On various semi permanent wiring jobs I have done , the back of the pots can get a little crowded so I have on occasion used a wago connector to link all the earths together and then run a single wire from there to the back of the pot .

Looking good mate . What strings are you after ? I can recommend LaBella LTFs or TI Jazz flats as being easy to play . If you want roundwounds then someone else will be able to help you . If you love thin strings how about tuned ADGC tenor tuning . Its a lot of fun but I miss the low E . It all depends on what you intend playing with it . Regarding pickguard , can it be printed with strengthening struts length ways to brace it a bit .

Great work as always Rob . I'll be waiting for the next installment .

Some of my best ideas have come when walking the dogs . New dog arrived an hour ago from greyhound rescue so all 3 will need a walk this afternoon .

With regards to all the above posters , and Rob himself , I would not go too far down the route of adjustable pickup placement . Whilst it is wonderful from an engineering point of view , it is yet another variable to deal with . I can honestly say that at no point in my life , ever , have I thought that if only my bridge pickup was 5/16 of an inch closer to the the bridge , my tone would be perfect . Stick with the original plan . Is it possible to make a 3d printed bass that is playable ? And also beautiful , sounds good and is easy to play . 👍

Drop the shim to 1mm and you may be in the ballpark . If not then an angled shim will be the way forward . A small amount of angle on the shim will make a big difference to the action . It may take a bit of working out as the normal way is to set up the action and then adjust the pickups but it can be done . If the thinner shim is not enough, but an action of 2mm at fret 12 should be playable , try a slice of business card under the headstock end of the neck pocket . If it works , and it should , either leave it or print an angled shim .

I however have no real and paid work today . Wheres the fun in that ? 🤔

Hi Rob . How is the action of the guitar , ignoring the pickups . ? How high are the strings off the fretboard at the 12th fret ? Without seeing it , it may be a problem with the pickup height rather than the setup of the bass . Let me know and we will start getting it setup properly . I think the setup advice from the first one was done via PM .

The first iteration worked very well as a proof of concept and was built to a tight timescale so don't beat yourself up . The alterations to the design and engineering have been spectacular . Any help I can offer from here on in is willingly given . I do have a few ideas on the pickup front ......

Jeez Rob , you've been busy . Looking mighty fine so far . I'm guessing the filament suppliers will be taking a holiday on the business you put their way .😁

I loathe and depise amazon . Working practices , anti union stance etc etc . Never have and never will buy anything from them . BUT . It is sharp business practice as people are lazy and money/value oriented . My major gripe is that customers expect every business to be the same 24/7 , feedback etc and answering emails at all hours of the day . My business consists now of 2 people . I am not going to answer emails at 0330 on a sunday . We are doing fine by the way 😁
