  1. 🎧 USE HEADPHONES 🎧 Huey Lewis said, “We'd heard that Cleveland was this great Rock & Roll town, and we're from San Francisco - how can Cleveland be anything? We went to play in Cleveland’s Agora Ballroom and had this amazing gig. On the bus out of town, I was looking at the skyline of Cleveland and I said, 'You know what boys? The heart of rock and roll really is in Cleveland. Hey, that's a pretty good song title.'” Cleveland has a rich rock history with a claim to the first rock concert. It's also where DJ Alan Freed popularized the phrase ‘Rock & Roll’.

  2. John Lennon discovered that English teachers were giving students Beatles lyrics to analyze. While on LSD he wrote ‘Walrus’ using nonsense lyrics, and said, “Let them work that one out.” The BBC banned the song because of the line "you've been a naughty girl, you let your knickers down”, as well as the phrase "pornographic priestess."
  3. Thanks for listening and for your kind words

  6. Scarborough Fair is an English folk song that dates back to the middle ages (obviously not written by Paul Simon). A woman leaves her lover for the delights of the fair. The heartbroken man sips on a witch's brew - parsley to be rid of bitterness, sage to gain strength, rosemary to be rid of love, thyme to gain courage. He approaches strangers asking to deliver a message: Tell her if she does a series of impossible to complete tasks he will take her back (subtext - I never want to see you again).
  7. Blackbird was inspired by Bach's 'Bourée in E minor' for lute. Both McCartney and Harrison tried to learn it on guitar. McCartney changed it to G major, did a variation of the first few bars, and used that as a starting point for the song.
  8. 'Paint It Black' is about grief, death and loss - very COVID

  12. Hello Basschatters. I'm Peter Rofé, bassist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic since 1986. The pandemic has shut us down for a while, so to keep musically active I took some of the rock songs I grew up with in the 60's and arranged them for bass and voice. Hope you enjoy them.
