The driver would have known what was within the rules and what wasn't. Regardless of the expectation vs reality argument with senior management, there will be very clear guidelines on delivery protocol, even if it is not realistically 'achievable'. Forging a signature, by a company that is owned by Royal Mail Group (clues in the name- Royal) is always going to be a disciplinary matter. Having worked for Royal Mail, this will have been the breaking point, and the difference between a stern telling off for leaving a parcel in the rain, and risk of the sack. A postman in my office once had an accident on delivery and admitted to stepping over a chain on the driveway as a shortcut, rather than using the proper path to the house. Several weeks later he was spotted doing the same thing by a manager and was instantly dismissed. He had something like 20 years service at the time too.

Double thumping for me too. To the OP- Do you mute using your left hand? This is easier when moving across frets than when alternating strings but not moving position, as you can spread your left hand which helps to mute. For what you are suggesting I would need to mute strings with my right hand as well for it to sound clean, raking etc.
Been playing tapewounds nearly exclusively this year. Decided to have a change and fit some rounds and yuk!. I don't mind the tension, feel or even the tone In fact I really like the sound of rounds. Just all that other finger and fret noise is horrible, especially with new strings. Think I shall stick to flats or tapes. Anyone tried the new ernie ball cobalt power slinkie flatwounds?. Supposed to sound more like rounds.
I've only ever played rounds, but recently bought a bass with a set of fender flats and really like them. Unfortunately only managed to play it unplugged at the moment, so not sure if I'll like the tone plugged in, but it doesn't sound dull or dead acoustically, sounds quite snappy actually, just 'fatter'. Have been interested in tape wounds though, would love to try a set. Are they round wounds underneath?

I never used to like sunburst, especially when people called it 'tobacco burst' (which may or may not be the same thing, I'm not sure) but I have developed GAS in recent years. More of a fan of 2-tone, than 3- tone. Has to have a maple neck. How can you not like this?

TC cabs.........how do you stack yours??
cameltoe replied to barneyg42's topic in General Discussion
212, on it's own! Never had a second cab, this thing is seriously loud. Would like to try a 210 though, it's deeper than I expected from 12's. I would stack them horizontal, if I ever got a 210. -
Bought a gigbag from Simon. Great comms, no issues, item turned up exactly when he said it would- top bloke. Cheers Simon!
For whatever reason he did this, be it time constraints put on him by his depot , trying to save himself a few minutes here and there, or just plain ignorance of his responsibility to the customer, he now is out of work. What is absolutely paramount to the Royal Mail / Parcel Force is credibility in the eyes of the general public. As a company, their number one selling point is trust.... Of all the millions of pounds they handle every day, none of it is theirs...it's ours...we just trust them with it for a given time to get it from A to B without any issues whatsoever. If anything threatens this in anyway, the penalty is almost always dismissal.... Whether this be wilful delay of mail, theft, forging a signature, not locking your van up while you are away from it, or even riding your Royal Mail bike without a helmet on... these can, and have ended in the sack for the offender. Every month there is a Royal Mail magazine goes out to all employees, and one section in particular is always interesting reading...who got sacked, and for what reason that month. It's a brutal, but effective way of saying ' we don't take prisoners or show leniency. Also in this article is what custodial sentences were handed out for the more serious incidents, such as proven habitual theft. So, with what may seem like using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut, this individuals predicament is now an example of what to expect if you stray from the straight and narrow to many other delivery drivers. It's such a shame that something that was inexcusable, yet without malice by the driver has cost him his livelihood, but if it was me who had found my bass thrown over my gate, I would, without doubt, have gone super nova as well. Put the clock back a few days, and it might have ended differently, but it's done now, with no one feeling to happy about the whole thing...
There was a guy in my office who was sacked for having an accident on delivery. He admitted to having stepped over a chain at the front of the property as a shortcut, rather than use the correct pathways and gate. Gross misconduct and a health and safety breach. As you say, they take no prisoners, especially when it comes to the safe handling of mail.

Here's my old for sale thread: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/88254-2006-fender-precision-mim-standard-sale-pending/page__fromsearch__1 I really loved mine!

I had a 2006 MIM, same colour, same stud on the back of the headstock. As far as I am aware, it was a pretty standard MIM. I recovered the pickguard in gunmetal grey vinyl, it looked awesome to my eyes!
You know all of the facts?
No, I'm suggesting that if Parcelforce managers, from the MD down, have decided to dismiss this person, then they have made an informed decision based on the evidence, and in line with their policies and HR procedures. They obviously feel that his behaviour was unacceptable, in terms of what they expect from their staff, and have made their decision accordingly. It's not up to you, me, or the OP to try and argue otherwise.
For the record the official line from on high, as to why there were no longer two post deliveries with the first starting at 7:00 am, was that the delivery lorries were restricted to a lower top speed and therefore they arrived at depots later. From what I saw there was nothing much to deliver though guys were sorting mail from around 5:00 am onwards, with a big second delivery appearing sometime around 7:30 or so.
The removal of the Mail train is when the second delivery service stopped in Cornwall. Looking back, around 1:00-1:30 of our working hours were allocated for this, and on average you'd go out and deliver about 5 letters. Only first class or 2nd class stamped (which was date stamped 2 days or more previously, else they were getting a 1st class service). Like I said, it was a run as a service back then though, so things were different! Not surprising it was one of the first things to go.
Actually, Royal Mail used to deliver starting at about 7a.m., and then do a second delivery, but the MANAGEMENT decided to go to a one delivery system, so it would be " better " for the customers...( for "better" read "cheaper for the company")
I used to work for Royal Mail, this was all brought about once Royal Mail lost the monopoly on delivering items under £1. It used to be run as a service, and that service was very good, however it is now run as a business, and businesses have to be profitable to compete. Ironically, Royal Mail thought the advent of the internet would spell the end of letter delivery as we know it. Massive propaganda was trotted out by senior management on declining Mail volumes, the need to cut costs etc. All very true, however what they completely underestimated was the massive growth in packet and parcel traffic that the rise of internet shopping brought. They never saw it coming. Back in the good old days of Mail Order, packets and parcels were minimal, and easily managed. It is only in the last few years, the nationwide revision in 2011-12 to be precise, that they have tried to adapt to this market. So back in the 'good old days', postman pat was trusted to use his initiative when delivering parcels, and whether to 'doorstep' them. Live out in the sticks and friendly with the neighbours? We'll deliver it to them. Live by the side of a main road in full view? Probably won't leave it on the doorstep. Plus he had the time in his working day to make an informed decision. But with the massive increase in parcel traffic completely mismanaged by Royal Mail, and the extra pressure on staff who were told their workloads were going down, 'doorstepping' began to increase. Complaints went up, naturally, and 'doorstepping' was outlawed, punishable by conduct procedures, from somewhere around 2005 iirc. After a few years, it was obvious customers started complaining more about us not delivering it to their trusted neighbours, or leaving it in a perfectly secure place. Customers were also taking advantage of the free redelivery service, which was so clearly not profitable, so initiatives were brought in to ensure we delivered first time, in an attempt to slicken up. The 'tracked' service coincided with this. This obviously stretches across to the wider Royal Mail group and Parcel Force, and hence why you have basses thrown over your garden fence. Regardless, the delivery driver must be an absolute tool, and will probably be sacked for this. I left Royal Mail in 2012, and it was clear there was massive conflict between running it as a business, and running it as a service. Until they sort out which one it is, it will continue to decline.

Entire band PA, and my amp and cab live in the shed. My basses get to come inside where it's warm, and kinda kick about the living room annoying the wife.

How much does the rest of it cost?!?!?!
cameltoe replied to the hand of john curley's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I don't get how the whole vintage thing stretches to asking ridiculous amounts of money for a screw, or a knob, or some pickup foam. I can understand how a vintage fender may command a bit more if it is 100% original, but not enough that you'd pay a thousand dollars for a knob. Plus, if you needed a knob and bought this, it wouldn't be original, would it? If I was in the market for a pre-cbs, as long as it had the original neck, body and pickups, I don't think I'd care about much else. But then, I'm not a vintage collector…! -
P bass Volume 100% Tone 80% Luckily my preamp will respond if I dig in, so I can squeeze a bit more out through dynamics for the big bits.
