A lot of people seem to see a need to justify their reasons for selling a bass. So you get a large part of the ad saying things like: "It's a great bass, but just not for me, I prefer an xyz because ...". Why do that? Most people on here have sold one or more basses at some time, we know the score, people sell for all sorts of perfectly valid reasons. We expect sellers to describe the bass they have for sale honestly, and if they don't, they'll soon get rumbled. Some ads are a better sell for the bass they're keeping that the one they're trying to move on.
Point taken Advert Edited!
Ah but this isn't a traditional Fender. I have no problems selling the occasional Japanese P and J bass I get in. Traditional plus quality will always win out over "the hit of 1987!" as ony a small percentage of people will take a risk on a lesser known instrument. Just how heavy is this bass? Maybe you need to make your strap longer or shorter or stand better...
Not that heavy, I just don't feel all that comfortable with it on. I'm sure someone else would love it and have no problem with it. I've messed around with the strap loads btw.

I just want a bass that doesn't give me a bit of back ache. Other wise I'd keep it in a shot, it does everything I need it to do and more. Someone out there must get on with Jazz basses and fancy something different?

Very nice basses. I got my local music shop to order a couple in, and was impressed, felt much nicer to play than my mexican standard P and the neck felt much more natural to me. I ended up buying a Road Worn that I'd played a few times before, but that's a different story. I emailed Fender customer services just the other week to find out what pickups they used in the Road Worn series and was told they use the American Standard pickups in both the Classic '50's series and the 50's Road Worn series, so it's weird that so many people are complaining about weak pickups.
I really like my SUB & the fact that not only did I get it for a silly price, but it's made at the same factory using the same pickup & active 2 band eq as the Classic Stingray 4H.
Arrgh don't come on here rubbing it in again ya jammy sod To think of all the things I've wasted £99 on....

Don't worry dude I'm having the same trouble trading mine Click The irony is, when I bought it from tom1946 only a couple months ago, loads of people seemed to be interested in it, and it was £60 more expensive then! I've literally used it 4 or 5 times, realised it's not for me, and I can't give it away. I mean, it's a seriously quality bit of kit and it's basically brand new. Sounds good, plays AMAZING, and I'm asking for half the RRP. I've even approached people about trades for well used Classic Vibe squiers (£250-ish RRP?) and no one is biting. It's a great guitar, it's absolutely leagues ahead of my Mexican Precision in terms of quality and to play, but I've always found Jazz basses feel slightly off-centered when I'm wearing them, and as such I lean to the side a bit to compensate and end up getting mild back ache. I need to get my MIM precision to my local shop where it's to be traded in against my birthday present, a fiesta red RW precision, but I can't really do that as I now need the MIM for rehearsals and gigs. I could put up with using the Fret King, it doesn't cause me agony just a bit of discomfort, but now I've made up my mind to move it on I'd rather not risk damaging it and losing even more money on it. £300 is too cheap as it is. I'm off to London this weekend and I'm gonna try and trade it in at The Gallery while I'm there, but I can imagine they'll probably ask me to put money in for anything worth more than £250

It sounds like you have too much relief in the neck, which will cause your action to be high no matter how low you adjust the bridge saddles. There should be a slight bow, but it shouldn't be that easy to notice unless you're looking down the sight of the neck. As it says on the fender website, a good idea is to hold the E string down at the 1st fret and the very last fret, and check the size of the gap between the bottom of the string and the top of the 8th fret. The idea here is that the string makes a straight line, so you can tell how much 'relief' (i.e bow) is in the neck. This part can vary from bass to bass and player to player, but most people like to see a gap about the thickness of a credit card. If the gap is looking a lot bigger than that, the truss rod needs to be tightened a little. If the strings are flat against the 8th fret, your truss rod needs loosening a little to allow more relief. I would definitely leave this to a specialist if you're not sure what you're doing. Other things, such as the tilt angle of the neck, may also need adjusting, and this is a whole different ball game. Once all that is set up right, you can then mess around with the bridge to get your action comfy. This is easy enough to do yourself.

I'm fed up of this post now. I'm GASSING for a SUB! Someone let me trade my Fret King for one! I'm getting a GAS headache

low mids- good high mids- rubbery

Fender have a set up guide for basses on their website. It's irrelevent that it's a squier, it'll be the same procedure. Don't mess around with the neck too much though if you don't know what you're doing. A good idea is to lower it to where it feels most comfortable, and if it's buzzing like mad then the neck may need adjusting. I'd take it to a specialist for this though.

Was the relic'ing any good or has he made a pig's ear out of it? I liked it in white. Looked good.
I have one for sale in the Gallery in Camden which may or may not be coming back to me if you are interested in it? I'd be looking for around ~£300 for it.
That is a good price, but the problem I have is I'm trying to shift this, which you've probably seen for sale. Click It's a damn good guitar, I just don't get on with it. I put it up at stupidly low price hoping for a quick turnaround. In a weird twist of fate, I'm going to London this weekend and was going to take this to see if I could trade it for something. First point of call was going to be The Gallery. I was also contemplating a CV Precision, and I see you've got one of those for sale too. If you can offer me a decent trade on the SUB (I'll happily chuck in some cash) then I'd go for it.
-
Interesting, cheers. So the SUB's have a slab-body, as opposed to the Stingray and Ray34's contoured body? I guess I'll just have to try one. Right now I just want something that doesn't weigh a ton and balances well round my neck. Fed up of getting back ache.
-
I had a mudbucker in an EB-O before and I hated it Mud is the right word. I'm quite interested to hear the old-school pickup in the '50's CV though
-
Is it me or is that neck quite thin? They're a bit thicker on the '50's CV aren't they? Compared to an MIM standard I mean
-
Would you generally rate Sterling by MM as a better quality instrument? Seems like that range has taken over where the SUB left off, so would be good to know, especially if they're knocking about in a similar price range
Or 3:
Looks like an Ooompa Loompa lost their bass!

Cheers for the heads up!

Great info guys, cheers! I'm already thinking that if I happen to be lucky enough to get my hands on the one I've seen, I'll be getting the soldering iron out and wiring it as parallel. Probably chuck a Wizard pickup in there as well. That weird chequer-plate pickguard will be getting replaced too. Good to know they're a quality instrument.
Cool, Road Worn Jazz in Fiesta Red I dont normally like red on instruments, unless its that Fiesta Red with the right guard, and then I REALLY like it. How odd!
No, Road Worn Precision in Fiesta Red. Honestly, I was blown away by it. And I was determined not to want it, as I always thought the Road Worn range was overpriced. I don't usually like red on instruments either, but for some reason I kinda like Fiesta red. I didn't actually like it at first, it grew on me big time. The fiesta red CV precision looks badass with the rosewood board. I kinda like Sonic blue but it doesn't all come together as well as the Fiesta red. This thread isn't helping- I'm now GASSING for a Fiesta red CV Precision. I guess it would be cool to have a little brother for the Road Worn!

I've seen a Musicman SUB I might be interested in, but I've no idea what they are. Can someone explain to me where they fit in to the whole Musicman family? I think I get the rest of the range; You have proper Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray's and Sterlings and a few other models which are the flagship USA built, £1000+ instruments, Then you have 'Sterling by Musicman' which are the Indoniesian built instruments which come in a bit cheaper. Then you get the OLP range which are licensed by Ernie Ball, built to their specs but not actually built by them, and they are more of a budget instrument I don't understand where the SUB fits in though. I read, from a description on Ebay, that they are basically a passive version of the Stingray, but this can't be right as you can get active SUB's. They seem to be priced secondhand as a mid-range instrument (£400-ish) but I don't know what the new price was, where they are made, or what sort of role they are supposed to fulfil in the spectrum of Stingrays. The one I've seen is an active SUB, so any words of advice are welcome. I'm interested in how well they balance and how comfortable they are, how well they play in general, and if I'd need any pickup upgrades. If it helps, my other option here should I not decide to go for it, would be a Classic Vibe precision.
