  1. Suppose it depends what your 'background' is, ( and the kind of music you do) I started off in punk, then post punk, using a pick.... only occasionally using fingers for the odd thing here and there, so can do much more with a pick than without. Horses for courses I guess...
  2. Welcome to PC Woke world I assume, where 2+2=5
  3. They've obviously listened to Gang of Four a bit then !
  4. Just get yerselves a multi pack of Jim Dunlop .73s and off you go
  5. You're kidding surely, I could play WAY faster with a pick than flapping the sossidge fingers about !
  6. I really wouldn't use WD40 ! Servisol switch cleaner is good stuff with a good reputation, I've used that whenever I've needed to sort pots etc out.. Worked well on an old Lucas indicator switch in the motor too !
  7. We tried a similar kind of thing, guitar fx pedals with a simple single manual harpsichord many years ago, which was quite interesting, we went on to mess about with the "prepared piano" thing with it too, putting various things in, on and around the strings..
  8. I bet the bloke in the shop was working out his weeks notice !
  9. Thought it was going to be a baritone ukulele.
  10. I don't do guitar as such, but handy to have around in case I want to suss out something or whatever.. I've got a set neck Epiphone les paul studio thing that I picked up ages ago for about 80 quid or something.. its very well put together considering....the Epiphone guitars of all kinds seem pretty good to me, and can be had for not a lot of cash, wouldn't think you could go far wrong with anything by them.
  11. That Dubspot channel with the docs is great, subscibed to that one, v good find ! Takes me back seeing all that Ampex tape, and a Roland space echo.. I knew someone who actually had one of those, we had to make do with a WEM copycat tho.
  12. Theres a whole bunch of these on u tube, I'll grab a coffee and go from part 1 👍
  13. Tbh I've generally flogged stuff on ebay, tho I only sell my redundant items occasionally... even after they changed away from paypal it seems to work ok, did for me anyway.
  14. I've had a few bits of Behringer gear over the years, inc. small mixers etc, and found all their stuff excellent..
  15. I've just used those cheap elastic type capos with the plastic 'bar' that goes across the strings, they seem pretty tight so hold bass strings down fine, certainly when I've done it.
  16. I've played a few wind instruments as a "yoof" so have used basic notation with that, long long ago..never attempted it with a bass or any stringed instrument tho. My messing with keyboards is again purely by ear, including those 'string orchestra' things i do sometimes. I had a lovely full score with all the individual parts for a Haydn piece for orchestra, this was an original 18th or 19th century printed manuscript, long lost now unfortunately, was just a nice set to have.
  17. Gawd it uses the "dots" ! As a mindless thug i always just work things out by ear. tab wouldn't be much help either, as the uke, (one of the larger size ones) I've tuned like a banjo so it's dead easy to suss out innumerable tunes
  18. With body screw holes in the neck I've used the ends of artist type paint brush handles cut off and glued in, these have a slight taper and can be banged in, seems to fill the holes very well, provided you use decent glue poured in the hole, titebond or something, and of course sand any paint residue off the handles
  19. I've done a couple of bits of Bach on the ukulele, the very easy bits that is
  20. Very often the case when heard alone, as its just a basic "signal" really.. It's all in what you do with it in the mix / production Rather like the embarrassing "dry" vocals thing !
  21. Kumbaya ( me lard) on the ukulele.. Took about 7 seconds, what shall i try next i wonder
  22. Possibly going to paint a neck that's been stripped to bare wood, it would be painted entirely, apart from the fretboard which is rosewood. It would be black in satin or matt finish and I'm looking for ideas for a suitable paint. It will be sprayed with a rattle can, probably outdoors, I have no compressor or posh spray equipment, nor a workshop. The obvious one is i suppose black nitro with a Matt / Satin clearcoat, but wondering if there's other options that might be better or more resilient?..there's stuff called plasticote but assume that's hi gloss? Interested to hear any thoughts people might have
  23. The vibes ting a good find, as you say a good "soundtrack" for life ! 👍 Not been on here hardly for a couple of days so bit of catching up to do again
  24. I'm now Experienced... Anyway, excuse me while I go and kiss the sky, or something
