The Music Machine in mornington cres. ( now Koko) used to have gigs, with often 3 bands, literally every night of the week, Admittedly it was often pot luck as to what they were like, and bloody Classix Nouveux were on with annoying regularity, but always a lark, plus the always available little blue pills, three for a quid... Happy days

When I've had a quick twang on acoustic basses, my impression is the big body would be properly annoying if you just wanted to noodle around on it, like having a small piece of furniture on your lap ! That said it'd be quite cool to have something non electrickery based... I did have the brutal idea of butchering an old knackered acoustic git into a bass .. 😱

Croaky vocals I'd think..

I'd still say to the Professor, go and try a few old 4001s, the proper Rickenbacker in my opinion... With all this talk I'd really like another myself, unfortunately with the prices now absolutely no chance..

I had an Orange 120 guitar amp I used for bass about 1980 ish, it was old then, I hate to think what that'd sell for on ebay.. I probably virtually gave it away at the time

Like an idiot, a few years ago I sold a cabinet with two very old Celestion 12" speakers in for pennies virtually.

With a neck plate you could do the "80s upgrade" thing and make one from a nice chunky sheet of brass..

Hmm.. Up to you ( and it's the easy opiton)... but my sense of "over engineering" would rather have a nice lump of metal on the back...
