  1. Not exactly monstrous as yet but I glued the HS back on the wrecked Ibanez Git I rescued, and stuck a bit of veneer on the front as much for reinforcement as appearance.( Like a tw@t I broke a corner off my nice lil' veneer. ) the repair seems strong enough to me, and a fair few on 'tinternet when I researched it have reglued these successfully. The fretboard was splitting away on one edge too so that was a case of hot iron and butter knife to prise it off and reglue it back on as best I could. Even if I do a headless thing from it I still needed to glue the busted off bit back, in order to make a clean across cut rather than leave the jagged snap line. I'll prob bung some git-strings on it and see what it says before deciding wtf to do with it further...
  2. How much does "little Mark" charge then ?
  3. That's a good deal, well done you.. 👍
  4. He nicked it in the first place... 😁
  5. So Jack charges 50 quid a time does he? ( asking for a friend of course...)
  6. That prob is the one I was thinking of, as you say there's no doubt a few along those lines. I'm all for "cheating" if it gets the desired effect 👍
  7. I can't remember the name, but believe you can get a little stomp box / pedal thingie, that "sorts out" your vocals if they're a bit iffy ( out of tune or rubbish) Obviously wouldn't solve the playing against a bass line but might be useful if you've been shanghai'd into doing some singing....
  8. So 'ang on, you were 75 in 1875? ... You are a vampire and I claim my £5
  9. I quite fancy an acoustic bass again nowadays, I had one briefly years ago but passed it on as not really used much. I'm always a bit leery of the acoustic guitar type of build tho, it seems a rather fragile and they often seem to end up with the top bowing and becoming rather less than playable due to a crazy high action. Maybe it's a "build one myself" type thing 😁
  10. I don't get the aversion to phones at all.. I'd rather speak to someone on the spot and hopefully get a resolution there and then. It's usually far better to have a conversation with a human being (assuming it's one with common sense!).. think of all the stupid "tiffs" that arise on forums, most of these would never happen if the same conversation took place in the pub for instance. The one occasion I dealt with BD I ended up speaking to the bloke on the phone, all sorted in 2 mins.
  11. There are you know.. https://youtu.be/0k29corrrL0
  12. I can only see the 2nd pic, looks like one of the odd Jap basses that we're knocking about late 60s early 70? I'd certainly say they'd be worth bothering with, if not your idea of fun I'm sure there's a few folk would happily take them off you!
  13. Walk Away Renee, Left Banke (oops, too late..)
  14. I think there's one on ebay at the mo for about a Grand (minus loose change) which seems mad money to me..
  15. I quite often used to grab a tall bar stool from the venue and play seated on that, OK I was admittedly about 20 and did it as a gimmick rather than necessity. .. . but, people generally thought it was cool & unusual, so I'd say.. make a feature of it ! 👍
  16. That's a brilliant run though, much appreciated! 👍
  17. I can do "a bit of welding" so had in the past toyed with possibly maybe having a go at that kind of thing.
  18. I always liked John Cooper Clarke, not difficult of understanding or anything tho.. one of my favourites contains The man upstairs he grips my arm, says "don't I know your dad"? All I could hear were fire alarms the day my pad went mad....
  19. As a addition to my questions about making a neck from oak, I'm wondering what any of you "build from scratch" guys would recommend for a Truss rod? Obvs there's double acting or one way, no doubt there's decently made and rubbish quality in both types, truss rods seem to not be overly expensive from what I've seen, but any to definitely avoid? I'd need to get a TR before going much further with the neck build idea, particularly as I'm intending to avoid routing by laminating a neck and using the centre strip glued in 'lower down' to leave a ready made channel for it to sit in.. don't know if this would suggest a particular type of TR? Any suggestions most welcome 👍
  20. Start hunting around for another old Rick (obviously with a bit more dosh on top)
