  1. Did you jump out of the window like Dukes of Hazzard..?
  2. We ragged an old Lada round a muddy and deeply rutted off road course once, it actually went better than various Land Rovers and the like, and didn't get stuck once. Suppose them Rooskies have bad roads back home..
  3. You're no doubt quite correct, the FR on these is supposed to be a bit crap by all accounts anyway, not that I'm a gitar-wrist at all. If I go down the 'edless route I'll possibly look at devising a home made set of h/less tuners too, as anything purchased in that line seems to be disproportionately expensive, and it'd be fun to keep this project as near to freebie as poss ๐Ÿ˜
  4. If I do that, bear in mind I'd have to carve out a big square hole where the Floyd rose is and glue a solid block in to blank it off & abolish all that malarkey, obviously any headless tuners can't work with the FR still in place (not that I can immediately dream up anyway) I'm even having absurd fantasies about making it a short Scale bass.. Or worse still a twin neck with the Rickthing....
  5. All the bits are black, innit...
  6. All good then๐Ÿ‘
  7. Headless then? ๐Ÿ˜ In fact that break is a common thing apparently with this kind of Git... looks to me like it'd glue and clamp up and likely be OK, lots of YouTube vids with virtually the identical neck and break, clearly a bad design. That said the Floyd rose nut would be a perfect string clamp for a headless mod. The fretboard is splitting off all down one side of the neck too, so I'd have to steam and knife it all off and reglue, I'll do that first coz if that won't play nicely the neck is scrap.
  8. I assume they were pressed/stamped mild steel under the finish?
  9. I think the PJ I've got is probably an Affinity, brand new they were I guess about 200 quid ? If I didn't have that already I'd be needing a cheapo P bass & I'd have been very tempted by the blue/maple one as mentioned by @PaulThePlug
  10. Probably would've been fine if they'd watched the process and pulled them out when "cooked"... I expect they just bunged them in and left them.
  11. Just been given this, apparently it's been left out in someone's garden for a bit & it was going out to the dustmen next week. I plugged it in and the PUs even still work after wiggling the selector about a bit, thanks to the Floyd rose thingy it was not far off being in tune either ๐Ÿคฃ Hmm I'll have to think of a "monstrous mod" won't I..
  12. Cool, did he used to be in the Worzels?
  13. To strip chrome you'd have to do electrolysis, I'd think with the poles reversed to how they were when it was chromed in the first place, I've used simple electrolysis to clean metals before. .. but, as everyone says, not worth the bother / cost, just buy some black hardware Just as a point of interest, there's a whole bunch of u tube videos showing kitchen sink type chrome removal using the above technique
  14. 98% of the paying punters want to hear you "play the hits".. At the end of the day It's showbiz
  15. Very little neck dive then, good choice ๐Ÿ‘ Oh, erm.. Weight please?
  16. It's in the build diaries thing as Ricky's Had His Head Chopped Off.. BOSH..! not sure how you'd do a link. The PUs are just the cheapo crap ones that came with it, I've got a MM pickup I may poss put in the bridge pos, it's still a work in progress, tho I've been having fun just playing with it currently ๐Ÿ˜
  17. Good stuff.. The finish and colour scheme kinda reminds me of the SDCurlee basses you used to see in the 80s
  18. I suppose I'll have to add my Rickenfaker headless bodge to mutants then, some will have seen the "Ricky's had his head chopped off" build thread so no point repeating the details.
  19. I'd forgotten about the downstairs at HMV ! I was nearly tempted by a headless double neck thing they had in there once. It was great being able to swan around a fairly small locality with loads of guitar shops, and try stuff out at leisure, spent many an afternoon at that game ๐Ÿ˜
  20. Heart of Stone, Six
  21. Last time I went down Denmark St it was purely "vintage collectible" as I recall, & stupid prices... Tho I'd still have had a wander down there just for old time's sake if I were passing...
  22. My experience with recent cheapo Squiers is excellent, I picked up a PJ which seems to be the currently available bottom of range thing, and it's great, I'd use it on a gig with no hesitation, plays and sounds better than a lot of "names" I've had in the past..
  23. And you get shot with a crossbow...
  24. Scabby, under the railway arches, type rehearsal rooms are traditional ! "Backstreet" off Holloway Rd was like that, played there many times, but I think shut in the early 2000s. Allan Gordon's in Leyton was another going back to the 70s.
