  1. I've never been the nervous "stage fright" type either, quite the reverse 😁
  2. Have an X-tasy tablet or two, you'll be fine 👍
  3. Aww.. I'm not anywhere near your area unfortunately I was thinking of you & S'manth being able to do some cool twin bass stuff, ^ she said she's up for starting a project, and you're both very close in location..!
  4. I think about the first ever 'proper' gig I did in front of a reasonably substantial paying audience, had a very youthful me speeding and absolutely off my face, I just about remember being on the stage, and a lot of very loud noise, I have no memory of what I actually played, or indeed how I would've remembered what I was supposed to be playing.. I do remember coming off stage afterwards and people saying "that was brilliant mate" and all that kind of guff.. No idea how I got away with that, I can only assume I did it on brain "auto-pilot" or something.. Tbh I've probably been "winging it" ever since 😁 Another one, and most embarrassing, was loading out at a gig up north somewhere, it was very cold and had been snowing earlier, ( this was the punk era BTW, and note I was wearing a very tatty pair of trousers) anyway outside dragging some gear about I happen to look down and to my horror see that the zip on the above trousers had failed and the "Old Chap" was hanging out for all to see!.. now being very cold it was not nearly as impressive as I'd like to generally advertise it.. No one actually said anything and "it" was swiftly and discreetly returned to it's rightful place. i have a nasty suspicion it may well have been the topic of much hilarity I was not party to...
  5. A couple of covers thrown in (in an otherwise originals band) that were very popular with the punters were... "Leader of the Pack" by the Shangri-las.. and "Carwash" by Rose Royce..
  6. Glad I'm not the only one with dislike of Wals, I really can't understand the big thing about them, and the mental pricing.. I accept that some of the more posh models are likely better than the ones we had, but still....
  7. Tbh there's nowt wrong with the low price range Squiers, I scored a PJ recently (that still had the cling film on everything) and that plays and sounds great. That said it's likely worth spending a few more quid and get one of the higher spec Squiers or a mex Fender bargain from one of the folks here.. the world's your lobster as Mr Trotter would say 😁
  8. Pro 2 does kinda ring a bell now you mention it, full marks for persevering with yours, good decision £ wise as it turns out! The one I had was in my possession a matter of weeks or so before I very happily got shot of it, could only afford to have one bass on the go at any one time in those days.
  9. As I mentioned in some other thread, a thing I was briefly involved with had some basic recorded guitar and bass tracks "chopped" by the engineer, to surgically remove any sound not microscopically on the beat, by comparison it sounded pretty duff, like something created by a computer, rather than a bunch of guys playing a song. There were no glaring mistakes at all and perfectly good usable "takes", just this guy took it upon himself to "improve" on nature! As @Dad3353 says, music is not mathematics.
  10. Mmm pork pies have always been popular here, particularly good with Worcester sauce..
  11. The Wal I found horrible to play, for some reason the neck / fretboard etc was most uncomfortable, and it was somehow awkward or difficult to play stuff I could breeze on anything else, difficult to quantify but it was just nasty!.. bear in mind I'm one of the least fussy or moany players and will normally just crack on with it. It also sounded a bit ¢rap compared to other stuff I'd been using. This Wal was I assume the cheapest most basic one they did, it was badged Wal Pro as I recall, and was black / rosewood board, 2 pick up (passive I think.) I had it in 1981 and it didn't look to be very old at the time.
  12. The only reason I'd regret getting rid of the Wal I had, is the fact that they go for Insane money now and I'd be going Kerchinngg.. ££ I would've only paid in the early £200s for it second hand of course, it being circa 1981, I think I swapped it for the white Rick I had around then, and was very happy to have done so as I hated the Wal
  13. Hate to say it but I think "fashion" has a lot to do with it, it seems to be very much "the thing" at the mo to espouse flats.. a 180 reversal of the above mentioned 70s notion of "swap your stock flats for rotosounds asap" I'm not criticising any one for using flats just coz I don't like 'em, that'd be Incredibly stupid. Whatever works for you, and what you play, is the way to go of course..
  14. Tbh I don't even think of the artist.. music conjures an era rather than a person, Rock and Roll parts 1 and 2 etc, to me just scream early 70s and everything about that time, reminds me of what I was doing then etc etc.. I don't think "Gary Glitter" at all, same with any other well known piece of music. How many people consider Beethoven and his life when listening to the 5th symphony?.. probably not a lot. There's lots of songs that were everywhere when I was a teenager, that I remember & could sing to you now, but I haven't a clue who the artist was.. A successful piece of music, song whatever, has a life of it's own.
  15. Always roundwound.. I have had a go on other people's basses a few times with flats fitted but, nah.. wasn't for me.
  16. I miss the bands I've been in where we used to play pretty much every day, and were 'proper' mates.. Not really experienced this kind of thing in the "modern" era, probably doesn't exist now
  17. In my experience most punters wouldn't appreciate the difference between a bass and a guitar anyway, it's just "a couple of blokes playing guitars.."
  18. Like it.! Have to say I've never heard of these basses, looks cool tho.. a bit like an upside down rickenbacker painted by Salvador Dali 😁
  19. 2 bass players, what's not to like 😁 There's been a quite a few that have done the twin bass thing I'm sure, a version of King Crimson did as I recall.
