I had a cool top hat (prob is still knocking around the place somewhere) but it was too small / tight for my bonce... So not to be defeated I made a tool / jig thing from a thick lump of wood, kind of "section thru head" size, then sawed it in quarters and introduced some threaded studding, washers and nuts. This enabled me to enlarge the hat by damping it and then screwing the expanding blocks apart, stretching it to a suitable size, after leaving overnight to set obviously. Seemed to work pretty well.

So you play in a T-Rex tribute band then...

That's a cool looking little bass (and great that it does such a good job) an SG shape bass is something I've never had, one of the funny Les Paul types with all the knobs was the only Gibsonesque bass I ever had. I bet you're delighted with this one anyway 😁

I've used for years a thick wide padded girth from a saddle ( ie horse) as a strap, it's very comfortable, it's somewhat tatty now but so am I.

Interesting that Andys is still a guitar shop, as I remember it, it was on 3 floors up rickety old stairs, with a tiny "showroom" on the ground floor, and he fiddled with the guitars down there too. Not been to Denmark St for a few years now, no doubt the guitar / music shops in Charing X Rd have all gone by now.

I think kids have to just pick something up if they fancy it, I don't know anyone who has successfully "nudged" their kids into a particular instrument long term.. If there's a variety of instruments knocking around the house they'll obviously have a play with them, I think you have to let nature take its course..

Playing sitting is quite acceptable... The band we had in Manchester I often used to blag a tall bar stool and sat playing for the whole gig, I was only about 21 and didn't "need" to sit but it became a bit of a gimmick and people thought it was unusual and pretty cool
