  1. I always hated ABBA as a young "serious" punk/post punk geezer 😁 However, I later ended up playing loads of ABBA covers out in the real world.. I'd had a fair dose of it tho and haven't listened to any since then. .. having glanced thru this must have another listen with fresh ears. I've doubtless still got a whole bunch of the cds from when I needed to suss out "how they go"
  2. I always associated Travis Bean with guitars rather than basses.. Nice to see a few here as I don't recall seeing one in real life myself. I had a couple of Kramer metal neck basses about 1980 81 ish, shocked as usual by the money people want for them these days.
  3. 100% recommended, a top guy and a pleasure to deal with.. Graeme got the Boss recorder in the post ASAP and sent it 1st class too! Many thanks 👍
  4. Bet I'm more of a kid than you are.... 😁
  5. The rather odd body shape does suit headless somehow..
  6. Yep, I'll have a look with the units in proper daylight, I could wangle the earth wire into all the slots no doubt... certainly take your point about the control plate malarkey too, I can cut stuff like that from black plastic card sheet type material , sure I've probably got some 2mm Plasticard knocking around somewhere
  7. True enough, you would only probably realise it was a bit gash if you studied the bass v. closely in hand anyway !
  8. Pretty much all electrical stuff is made in China anyway tbh, both cheap and expensive
  9. Thanks for the encouragement there! 👍 I'll win one way or another I'm sure I'll have another look in daylight and try the units in etc, I'll need to sort something for an earth wire to all of them anyway (and fill in the existing hole) so it may be I'll do the single recess with a wired in Metal plate they can sit on.
  10. Drilled and gouged out the slots (the only description really) a bit of a mess unfortunately, with hindsight I'd have just chopped out a square flat recessed platform (I could still re appraise & do this in fact) I've got one of those powerfile things which would be ok-ish for that option, tho too big for the individual slots. All this was not helped by the fact the wood is very cheap, and breaks out easily, the paint ditto, so makes a tidy job rather more difficult The neat individual slots is one for the proper craftsmen and router operators I think, still was worth a try. I'll try the bridge units in and see if they need deeper recess, and take a view then. I could make some kind of surround thing to neaten it up perhaps, hey ho..
  11. I've got a B1 four (very good & useful little pedal for the money) and i reckon it's plenty robust enough unless you're a total animal and use it as a cricket ball /football
  12. Frank Sinatra, Cole Porter, Mantovani, symphonies by Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, piano music by Rachmaninov, Chopin etc.. .. Oddly my mum also liked The Seekers, which I hated and took the gypsy's kiss out of naturally.
  13. Another one right here that was banned from DorkBass for some ridiculous piddling little reason 😁 I have a look, very infrequently, if a search for something throws up a link to a relevant topic on there, I couldn't be ars'd with their nonsense posting on it even if I wasn't banned!
  14. I'd say the 73 is reasonably flexible, it's certainly not a solid lump anyway, I've occasionally rubbed one down with a bit of emery / sand paper if I've wanted a bit more flex for a particular purpose which worked well I found. I really like the JD 73 and since being introduced to them about 1978 I've used nowt else!
  15. Fretless?.. Why bother, just bung some chorus on, and wiggle the strings about a bit...
  16. Sounding like those mad "fretboard oil" dressing recipes beloved of the Git fraternity..
  17. I couldn't see the problem with gloss necks myself and never found them sticky or whatever. Again I'm not overly fussy about this kind of stuff..
  18. The basic cheapo Squier pj has a matt/satin on the neck ( other than the front headstock bearing the logo which is gloss)
  19. Not done my drilling yet, as had a number of things arise this week needing my attention elsewhere. But I did find this pic (on "that other" bass forum effort) that someone has done.. possibly even to a real Rick or at least one of the older accurate Japanese copies? pic is a bit hazy as it was a screenshot
  20. Did someone say radius? Seeing as it's going off at tangents anyway.. I find radius more of a "thing" when it comes to guitar (not that I dabble with git that much).. now, I had an old injury to the left forefinger which makes it impossible to fully straighten it, so bar chords if done in the approved manner have a few non-note clunk's in the middle somewhere. A very curvy roundy radius however works OK. I've not found many guitars have this tho, I had a nice old Hofner f hole acoustic thing that did, but unfortunately and unwisely flogged it as I reckoned I wouldn't use it much so...
  21. I believe they do this turn up and run trick as the tracker in the van shows where they've been QED.. They couldn't claim to have attempted pick up from a given address if they were down the caff or something! As mentioned before it's just a scheme to save a few minutes, which will add up considerably in a day's "work"
  22. Rupert the bear isn't real but there's a song about him. 😁
