  1. I just suggested a used or cheapo unit on the basis you could try it and see if it does what you need.. if it's a "nah.." you can flog it on and lose little or nowt.. If there's a particular one you fancy maybe try one out in a bricks and mortar shop if there's one near you that stocks them.
  2. Wasn't superglue originally designed as a quick battlefield patch up for wounds..?
  3. Only one way to find out.. Get yourself a cheapo/used unit, and have an experiment with it
  4. Drink some Bear.. Epic 👍
  5. Thought the 4000 was just the cheapo version with one PU and simple controls to match..?
  6. Nah it was only a Gag.. 😁
  7. With all the recent Rickenbacker talk, I had a mental tot up of the ones I've had over the years, it's 3 real ones (one I'd completely forgotten about) and 3 fakers, a Hondo an Aria and a Rocktile ebay special. This doesn't include the one I'm butchering into a headless at the mo. I think they look and sound great and couldn't care less what weight they are, I never thought of them as heavy basses anyhow, the body for instance is a fairly thin slab. As mentioned elsewhere, what a pity they don't (and won't) do a "squier" equivalent made in the far east at an affordable price
  8. I 'fink he missed the joke bit....
  9. A right solid state I'd think..
  10. Go on son... in the Mush..! 😂
  11. I saw a bit of one of those, and thought WTF why's he doing the fake yank voice....
  12. You already know he's just going to say it's $hit.
  13. I will sometimes use the fingers in a flicking type action, & for some things use the thumb 'tug bar' style but add upward strokes in a kind of strumming fashion.. if any of that makes sense
  14. Again, fair comment. Incredibly difficult to know "where to go next" with music and as you say a topic that could make an interesting thread of it's own
  15. Fair comment Mario.. Just for me, "New Music" really suggests something that is newly conceived, something that hasn't been done before, a very difficult thing to actually achieve of course, hence much of what we hear is mostly derivative, to use the word again, of what has already been. Of course New Music can also just be defined as music that's been created very recently. Most of which I think will fall under this category.
  16. Funnily enough as a youngster I played the saxophone before moving to bass...
  17. I had a 6 for a short while, a real cheapo just to see what they're like.. It sounded very good tone wise, active elecs and kind of emg style PUs, usual broad table of a neck etc, but played OK I guess. I soon got rid of it as for me it had no point really, I could do what I needed with a 4 and prefer the more "open spaces" of the regular 4 bass strings ( call me a stick in the mud but I wouldn't want a 5 either tbh) So I'd be an inverted Snob I guess
  18. And you're alive, even better still... 😁
  19. One thing I did, purely as a hired gun for about half a dozen gigs, required me to tune to a kind of drop C to fit with their existing music (it include synth tracks on a laptop too) this was on a normal 4 string bass, I only do 4 stringers so it was that or nowt.. It worked surprisingly well considering. If I'd been in the band ongoing I'd have probably sorted out some more suitable gauge strings or whatever
