The things I've done that I thought were the best fun, best music, and the most "like wot a proper band should be" have been democratic, but with the proviso that everyone pulls their weight. Obviously there's going to be different levels of input but provided all members bring something to the table that works, then all good. The couple of things I've been involved with that were dictatorships, were failures, in one case the "fuhrer" was a serial bull5hitter, not interested in any other ideas, and frankly don't think he really wanted the band to go forward anyway, I walked after a few gigs when there were no more in the pipeline, and clearly very little future prospect. The other one was kind of a mate really, he had some good ideas but couldn't keep on one course, we'd record some stuff, then next week he'd totally remixed it,( without any input from me) and it was changed out of all recognition, a completely different direction.. not even that it was bad, but it was impossible, again to take it forward, I get the impression he'd rather just noodle around at home endlessly remixing a few pieces than get out there and do it. Unfortunately that wasted quite a few months of my time too, hey ho....

I think that's his attempt at a "hard stare" but he's a bit too much of an old bagpuss to pull that off really...

I screwed the string grip block thing on, I used a couple of the ex bridge mounting screws as they were a bit more robust than what came with the kit, the supplied ones had a crosshead that wouldn't really fit any driver properly PZ or PH either and would've got chewed up anyway. if it's an issue, ie the block being secure, i'll subsequently just bolt right through with a plate on the back. As expected, a normal type allen key fits just fine under the block for truss rod adjustment.. Being of a bold disposition i'll probably just go right in and hack the headstock off next. ..you know you want me to ! 😉

I'd think virtually any quote would be way cheaper than that, Royal mail parcel force or whatever its called now do insurance up to quite a high value I believe.

Myself and a mate ( our drummer of the time who was very into the Frippertronics thing) saw Mr Fripp in the League of Gentlemen guise, must've been circa 1980, it was a good night but tbh my main memory of it now is RF's amusing badinage with the audience..

OK back to your car question, I'd recommend a nice Rolls Royce 40/50, anywhere between £200k and £500k and will no doubt hold its value and more likely appreciate.. .. and 7 litre eh.. Ding Dong..! 👍

It's all coming out now.. The very first thing I ever played to a live audience with something resembling a band was our version of "21st Century Schizoid Man" (King Crimson) My contribution being wrought upon a very cheap 'n nasty Woolworths/Tesco short scale bass..

I'll come further out of the closet here with the confession that I was in fact at art college in the 70s and was, not surprisingly, exposed to a fair amount of this..

I scored one of these off @PaulThePlug & they're excellent... I can't think of a better present for a young bass player as it gives you so much useful (and cool) stuff in one small package, perfect for whatever direction his music takes...
