The wife and her sister went to see Meatloaf at the NEC and he almost emptied the place. He played 2 songs in the first 45 mins and spent the rest of the time going on about how everyone should thank God for their lives and how good was great. People were leaving in bigger numbers than they entered. Deb lasted an hour before telling her sister she wait in the car.

The Macc Lads were always a fun gig as well.... still are actually.

I went to the Justice tour 3 times just too see Danzig. No interest in Metallicrap at all.

An idea from the other gig thread (sorry if this has been done before), what was your favourite gig and your last favourite? First time I met The Misfits was awesome but my favourite gig was probably "The Spermbirds" (German punk band) in Planet X, Liverpool. I was on stage singing with them . Great night. Worst was Guns and Roses. I never liked them but Wife wanted to go. Dreadful. I went to see Carter USM and they were so boring I fell asleep. They didn't have the band setup then so it was just JimBob and Fruitbat standing with guitars playing to backing tracks. The support were very good though... Senseless Things.

I love a good gig but as had been said before, some are way too short. Doyle (ex Misfits) only do a 50 min set. £30 ISH for a ticket, 2 days holiday from work unless it's a close to home gig, £25 for a short etc... All adds up for a 50 min gig. Wednesday 13 does 50 mins as well on a full gig, if it's an acoustic it can be 2.5 hours. Merch costs are silly at some gigs, some are great. I also hate big gigs. Give me a small, close gig any day.

Yeah, I've sorry of resigned myself to the idea of having to do theory as well but not something that interests me much. I want to eventually be able to hear a song and at least be able to have a good go at it. Tbh I'm very nervous about playing in front of someone... Even the wife has only heard me a few times. One of the lads at work is learning 6 string and suggested we take our gear in and have a mess about after work and play "Iron Man". Dunno if it'll happen and I'm really half hoping it doesn't but it's something to work to. I'd hate to take the bass in and be terrible compared to him.

I've spoke to him on the phone and explained exactly what I can do, what I want to be able to do and where I'm really struggling. I've explained that the theory side is something I'm not really interested in but that I also realise that I will have to say least do my toes into that part. He seems happy enough to take on the challenge and says he has a few students who started exactly the same. I'm hoping it's a good sign that the first lesson he could fit me in for was Thursday at half 4 as he's booked until then.

... and booked in for my first ever bass lesson. It's a free half hour lesson at first to see how I like it. I'm not expecting much from half an hour tbh but it's a start. Wish me luck.

Yeah, he seems really easy to follow...I also have a look at Scott's Bass Lessons.

That's one of the books I bought... It's a bit hard going but I'll stick with it.

Haha, cheers... That's made me feel better. So far I've managed to get Iron Man sorted up to the first fast solo bit and I'm almost there with Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down but I tend to get lost a bit.

Hello, I'm Mark from Stoke on Trent. I'm 51 and just decided to have a go at learning bass. I want to be able to pick up a bass and got random notes that don't sound random, if you know what I mean. A mate has lent me one of his bass, it's a Tanglewood Warrior II. I'm looking forward to learning a few songs, nothing too hard to start with obviously.... Ramones, Misfits etc... Any and all advice and tips gratefully received.
