1.
Oh indeed I agree. In fact that's some of the pleasure I get working on them. I think this one is pretty cool. But sometimes, though not always are a higher end instrument is really nice and you can get something more out of them. Personally I think this bass bass the tone ive been looking for. Its just the feel is a little off.
So, a few tweaks and you have it nailed.. fantastic! Personally I really like the fact that I've put some of my own effort into my own instruments, as it makes me feel more of a bond with them.
2.
As said, get another SC for more beans. Having said that, if you need more than 300W through an 8ohm cab for bass at a rehearsal, then your band must have serious 'volume war' problems. Get everyone to turn down. I hope you're using ear protection, too.
In a nutshell. I SAID 'IN A NUTSHELL'!!
3.
Will you lot please stop looking for stuff thats broken...
You mean there's more bits to find?

Overwater
..............................So much for Overwater always thought they sounded sterile anyway.
...where mine are tone monsters which I'll never let go. Each to their own.
5. Errr.. details? In W.Yorks, so will keep eyes open and spread the word.
6. If you're doing a more folk-rock thing, just use what you're comfortable with. Last time I took notice, Dave Pegg, who must be pretty much the icon of such behaviour, was using an Ibanez SR 5 string.
7. For me it was The Wild Rover.. hated it and playing it for ages, then one night I looked up out of my pit of misery and saw everyone in the place dancing on the tables and grinning from ear to ear. I though I might as well join them, especially as I was getting paid for this. Love it now! :-)
8. I have one of these.. an 'accidental' Ebay purchase while wondering if I would get into looping.. I actually use it mostly in Tape Delay mode, whereby it degrades the signal on repeats so it's more subtle. Also if you want you can access or mute any of the 4 'heads' individually. Love it, GLWTS!
9. I use mostly a Fred Kelly Slick Pick light or medium when playing a bass-strum style in a drumless lineup. Downstroke only, but being a smaller pick I don't have any snagging problems. We sell them in the shop (£1.50), although I see they're not on the website. Handy, that!
10. Here we go.. 49" long, 17" wide (super jumbo size) and just short of 6" deep. Made with multi-layer stiffening and padding.. there used to be some blurb online about the Tribal Planet GX series construction. Bargain! Might be a delivery upcharge for Highlands depending on the carriers, as it's a large thing!
11. There are some of these left at the shop; I'll have a measure up. Stiffened gigbag. http://www.themusicroom-online.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/4326 I think Warwick do/did a hardcase, as a CZ handbuilder supplied his acoustic bass in such a one a couple of times.
12.
.. As for the setup, I can't find my measuring tools but it hasn't been adjusted since I got it so it should be around Fender's standard measurements.
Hehe.. file under 'it was in tune when I bought it'! The setup can wander quite a bit with changing seasons and conditions, even just in a couple of days. It could be worth getting both basses in front of a decent setterupper, and say you'd like the J to play as near as possible like the Ray.
13.
...and our very own WoT appearing on Friday!
I thought the name The Caffreys rang a bell! I saw the sunburst P and it clicked. I love a bit of close harmony, me. :-)
14. Not on here, but I had something similar on coffeforums.co.uk a while back , whereby objections seemed to be connected to the moving banner at the top of the page. Currently on this page they're showing Rotosound and Elixir. I have no idea of the technicalities of these things!
15.
Do you not get the toneprints on the Hypergravity then?
You get a different selection, mainly guitar-based ones. For some reason TC Electronic seem to have decided, at least for now, to market the SpectraComp as the 'bass' one. There's a 3-way switch on top to select Spectra (multiband)/Classic/Toneprint(in which you can make up your own and assign the knobs to pretty much anything you fancy!).
16.
What's the difference between the hypergravity and the stecracomp then? If they can both use the toneprint and are both compressors... I'm confused
I hummed and hawed between the two, the ultimate deciding factor ended up Bassdirect having the Hypergravity in stock although I was veering more towards that one anyway. I think if youhave time to use the editor software they're all but equal, but for me the mid gig control of 4 knobs outweighs the fun aspect of all those bassists' Toneprints. Love it. :-)
17. If it's anything like the one on a Peavey power amp I had yonks back, it's just to limit the potentially damaging peaks at high volumes without otherwise affecting (or effecting) the signal, so to be at all audible you'd have to be rattling the house.. probably not hear it anyway! :-D
18. I've not tried any of the MB range, including the MB Fusion; don't confuse these with the Fusion 550, which I do have. Bought it after a lengthy brains-picking session with Bassgear. Not a modern lightweight model, but not particularly heavy either, and marvellously versatile with headroom a-gogo! Multivalve front end, so can grit if wished.
19. The ones who really have enough angst to bother you with such negativity need to go away and play more. I mostly use fingers, but that's me. Occasional flatpick use, and more often than a flat I'll use a thumbpick in a bass-strum style to vary things when playing without a drummer, especially if the guitarist is a bit weak on rhythm!
20. Love my aging Tribal Planet one; half the time I have one bass plus mic stand etc. 2 basses in one carry is quite a weight! Saving up for a Mono M80 Dual next, top notch construction and great fit for a 35 inch 5 string J.
21. My first DB was a Zeller solid top from Romania; sounds like pretty much the same thing had happened - my more learned friend pointed out the neck had been out but the repair looked good. It certainly caused me no problems in the few years I had it, and I happily got the soundpost and bridge upgraded part way through my tenure. Most decent luthiers will advise if they think it would be OTT to put further money into the instrument.
22. Finally got round to using these on Friday, after just a wee bit of silk trimming to allow use on a 35" scale. As said above, initially a bit grabby on your fingers, but that soon disappeared. Sounded good, not quite like a roundwound, but a bit brighter than a new set of halfrounds for my ears.
