1. Cheers for that, Shabbs! Go on then, at £30 it's got to be a worthwhile do, I'll take it. Will PM, Gerryc.
2. This kind of thing.. this is a chinese made Eminence
3. That rear view pic looks they're wired as 2 pairs in parallel, each pair being in series. Basically that means that if the individual drivers ar, say 8Ohms, each pair will show as 16 but then the two pairs in parallel will make 8 again. So whatever the individual impedance (assuming all the same), that's the imp. of the cab. Power handling is double that of one speaker, as a series pair can only handle the single amount whereas a parallel pair will split it between them. Again assuming all the same impedance drivers. Eminence usually have a little white label on with the impedance, usualy on the side face of the magnet.. owt like that?
4. This sounds like a bit of fun.. Power supply in there?
5. 'I take if seriously but you don't have to. As long as you turn up to practice and gigs.' Love it!
6. We have an EBay shop at work, and some of the offers are really derisory 9rather like that one!) If I see such a one, I'll usually go back to them with a 'nice try, but sorry we can't sell at that; how does this sound' kinda message. EBay hates you doing it, but an outside the Bay deal saves all those pesky fees!
7. I'll give you £325 with no Ebay fees! I've never heard a bad word about these 10xx basses.
8. I really wouldn't worry about not feeling very good at arco after only a couple of weeks.. just give it time and relax into it. No rush!
9. If you're up for modding, I'd start by bypassing the preamp. If necessary, just wire the pickup straight to the socket. That'll tell you how much you like the pickup. Get the pickup right (easy to upgrade such a one) before worrying about the pre.
10. Nothing wrong with having a drink, but if that detracts from the performance then just wait for the apres-show party. Sounds like there's more than just that going on.
11. I really like the Mono straps, not least because at last there's a leather-free high quality strap. Send me your unwanted ones! :-D
12. VGC in box, another cull from the Projects Box. Used them a little bit ages ago, since when they've been awaiting a new guitar. Check out fine on meter. Plenty of cable. Gorgeous pickups! Open to trades, etc. . WHY?
13. VGC with box, this has sat awaiting a project for far too long! Checks out fine on meter. £60 posted. Open to trades, etc.. WHY?
14. Up for grabs from the Projects Box.. EMG 35J soapbox, active . Well used (see pic), I think this was my first ever EMG and it served me well until I started experimenting with other internal formats. £33 posted, open to offers and trades.
15.
Anyone ever tried brake cleaner spray to clean strings ? It's a powerful de-greaser, and leaves no residue. Any ideas as to why it may not be the brightest idea I've had today ?
That first response, in a nutshell! If you really want to deep-clean your strings, boil in clean water for 10 minutes or so. You'll see the muck floating out. Dry the strings - hang them in a warm place overnight - before refitting. While they're off you can oil the fingerboard and polish the frets for good measure.
16. Why not just get the cavity altered, Tim? Shouldn't be too much of a problem. You know they're worth it!
17. The description sounds like it's a series -parallel switch rather than any kind of preamp. A useful mod.. you can do it yourself using a push-pull pot, as long as you're happy to have a go at soldering. Plenty of wiring diagrams on the Web. Otherwise pay this chap for the full kit. If you are up for the experiment, it's an easy wiring job to put the pups in series to see if you like the sound.
18. Any Hiscox I've seen over any SKB I've seen.
19. Just bought a strap from Morsefull.. Great comms, and good chap to deal with. Swift delivery. :-)
20. Just bought an fx pedal from Dunc; picked it up on the way to a gig - a pity I couldn't have spent a few more minutes chatting. Bloomin' Bank Holiday traffic! Always a pleasure (so far,at least!) to meet a feelow Basschatter in real life. Easy transaction, too.
21. I have two Overwaters, which are both fantastic. Also they're radically different from each other. Which is the 'best', even from those two? Depends on the context, really. . one fits into a rock band, while the other goes beautifully with acoustic vibe.
22. I'm on double bass with this chap: http://www.stevetilston.com/ at this do: http://www.garstangunplugged.com/ on Thursday 24th March. Garstang, just north of Preston.. I've never actually so much as stopped for a cuppa there before, so quite looking forward to it. Steve is, simply put, brilliant! I've been aware of him as 'one of those guitarists' since student days, but obviously when you have the gig you listen differently. What a songsmith! Excellent voice, to boot. If that wasn't enough, Keith Warmington is no slouch on the harmonica front!
23. Ingenious! I've seen such a thing for accordion, also classical guitar, but never electric things. Refinements like clamping spring to mind..
24. Yet another thing that's been in The Box for an age, so someone else may as well have the use of them. Somehow mislaid the screws along the way, but these were NOS when I got them so never fitted. Comes with ferrules. Currently set up 2+2, these tuners are easily reversed so easily switched to 3+1 or 4 in line. Still with box, although tatty!
