1.
If your into modding, here's a great bridge and you can space to your liking http://guitar-parts....4ef6171416X145d
Yup.. Schaller 2000, brill bridges. I have a couple on basses. Certainly available 4, 5 and 6 string. Iirc they go from 15.5 to 20mm
2. I just spoke to Hiscox.. yes, they are interchangeable. If you email Peter at Hiscox - [email protected] - he'll get one or two in the post for you! :-)
3. More likely there's something in the vicinity which is causing the previously imperceptible whine, and the treble boost is enhancing it. The battery could well alter the pattern by which it's being picked up. All kinds of things can cause electromagnetic interference.. cabling, lighting, transformers, mobile phones.. you name it! Tried switching things off to see if anything in the house is the cause?
4. Schaller also do the 2000 series, which has fully adjustable string spacing. Did you get that neck from Cotswold? Looked like a serious bargain..
5. .. what me mum refers to as 'London Prices'!
6. Nobody even yet mentioned the fact of all these different cabs and speakers. . One 210 will be different to the next and to a 115 or 212. To get a proper comparison, surely you'd have to take two or more heads along to one gig or room and put them into the same cab in the same context? I agonised for ages when buying an amp, but now I'll spend years learning its ins and outs through my cabs. A beautiful journey! :-)
7. Not removing the teeth , but straightening the wavy edge. When you look at the blade you'll see what I mean. Makes it much more controllable.
8. Do you mean the head is stripped, so the screwdriver can't grab anything? If so, the best way for me is to use a junior hacksaw blade.. hammer the wavy edge flat , and cut a straight slot across the head. Then you can use a small flat screwdriver to get the screw moving. If this all sounds confusing, get a mate who's into DIY or car fixing. . They should be able to do it.
9. You're going to need to learn to use a router.. Welcome to Project World!
10.
Maybe have a chat with your neighbours and give them your mobile number. Say that you do practice bass but don't want to disturb them. Tell them to drop you a polite text if it sounds unreasonably loud to them. That way they have a way of telling you to turn it down that's not confrontational (which may have been why your old neighbours didn't say anything to you directly) and you'll be happier in the knowledge that you're not disturbing them.
This, really. I know our neighbours have two kids, as we sometimes hear the six year old throwing a full-on tantrum then the following day we'll all laugh at her! We get on really well with next door, and I said that very thing to them ages ago, just in case I forget it's way past someone else's bedtime. Similarly handy if one of the houses is about to do some DIY or the like.
11.
I'm taking g the cab to a tech next week so I'll keep you all posted on the wiring.
This sounds like the most sensible thing to do by far! Good luck with the cab.. if you like the sound with a 130, it will be immense with a 600.. you shouldn't need to push that amp too hard, so headroom a go-go.
12. https://www.youtube....h?v=iT_RGgFSN3M "Hiroshima Nagasaki Russian Roulette" by Moving Hearts stopped me in my tracks.. I'd heard a few people rave about them to the extant I thought it was hype. The whole album is brilliant to this day, with amazing interplay between pipes, guitar and sax. Eoghan O'Neill on bass.. went on to be in Van Morrison's band, also has played with many in the upper echelon of the Irish scene.
13. Nothing wrong with having one (or more) to play and one (or more) to tinker with.. :-)
14. Euphonic Audio crop up used from time to time.. I have a CXL110 - 1x10 with concentric tweeter. Remarkable for its size!
15. I know for sure that too slack is when the hair can be trapped between strings and stick - possible damage to hair. Too tight? Maybe too bouncy or some such. If the bow snaps, definitely too tight! I have mine so about half a dozen twizzles takes me from slack for storage to tight for playing. Honestly? Not a clue!
16. This isn't just a drummer thing, in fact I'm pleased as anything to say that I play with a few drummers who can do both excellent quality AND volume to suit the moment - both high and low! I used to play with a tasty guitarist, nice chap too, who would put earplugs in then turn up to ear-splitting levels to counter the earplugs.. why? Glad to say even the louder bands I play with tend to be more sensible when it comes to practice rooms. The whole point of practicing is you can differentiate between the good stuff and the bits that need work. It's always a major step to leave (or cause major ructions in) a band you like, but your ears will still be thanking you in 10 years time!
17.
BassDirect tend to be at the highest end of the market but find somewhere else as well stocked in Europe.
I think this means you'll be very lucky to find anywhere else as well stocked.. Depending how stuck on a specific make or model you are, fish around the specialist shops in UK and makers, too. Also keep your eyes on the Marketplace on BC.. With a £1300 budget there'll most likely be something good on sale either now or in the near future. Put up a Wanted ad on here, and state your likes and dislikes. BC is a fantastic (or terrible, depending how you look at it) place for folks changing basses!
18. Any Fish man dealers should be able to get the clips for you. I used to have one yonks back , and had to get a spare pair!
19. That suggests a tube pre rather than an actual drive pedal. There's a thing that valves do which is just going creamy without fizz. What amp are you using?
20. This all sounds like a fun experiment! It strikes me that the feedback loop thing will be frequency-dependent, as only certain notes actually give you acoustic string feedback. Of course, the exact notes depend on so many factors.. distance, cab, angle, reflective/absorbent surfaces etc.
21.
Testicle shaking volume is all you need here!
But surely that is the answer to almost ANY query on here?
22. I think there's a perception that a zero fret is the mark of a 'cheaper' instrument, but since Fylde use it on their stuff that seems to be inaccurate reasoning. Dunno really, seems practical to me. Just get a fretless - no zero fret either way!
23. I remember walking in to Wakefield Jazz a few years back, to see a singer I'd not heard of but about whom (naturally) the club flyer had raved. Liane Carroll I had to suppress a pang of disappointment at seeing an electric bass - a fretted one, at that - propped up at the back of the stage, but well, Wakefield Jazz always get decent people on.. Turned out to be Roger Carey, husband of said Liane Carroll, and it turned out to be one of the best gigs I'd been to in years. Take the bass you're comfortable with, and you'll play as well as you can. This vid is simply joyous! 24. I've not had a Trace with a fan.. are/were they particularly noisy? A heatsink is quite silent in its running! That AH250SMX heatsink certainly does its work, mind, as by the end of even a short set I can't hold my hand on it. Hot, hot, hot.
25. If that's what 'winnowed down' looks like, thank feck they didn't get going with the serious power tools!
