[/quote] The 'playing with a pick' comment is the only part of HazBeen's post that I would disagree with, but I'm right with you on that, Jenny. A couple of my cabs have tweeters, but I usually either turn them partly down or even dial them out. Even stripped a few out completely, crossovers and all, over the years. Depends how I want to sound just then. I'd say that on the odd occasion I play with a pick the tweeter would just sound a bit too harsh for my taste. Great for an extra bit of edge with a fretless in a rock band, mind. ;-) I've been through alot of experimentation over the years, and I definitely prefer the tonality of 10s or 12s rather than 15s standalone. I'd occasionally use a 15 to beef out the bottom end, but 12s are my staple these days. There are some surprisingly light cabs out there.. carry as many as you can be bothered, or end up with something of a selection so you can speaker up differently depending on the gig. Sometimes even a single 10 is more than enough, other times you need lots of cones. Enjoy! Edit: Excellent review of your experience with the BF cabs so far, btw. :-)

I work selling instruments. To me, the look of an instrument is the lowest priority, but I have to recognise that the look is often what makes someone pick the thing off the wall in the first place. Similarly, a band will usually try to have the right kind of image for their scene. Weddings are an interesting one.. pretty much any musical style, and unless it's a particularly raawwk wedding you dress at least fairly smart - only polite for one thing, and who wants a bunch of scruffs at their otherwise smart reception? (One ceilidh band I'm in has had complaints on this re a particular couple of members who insist on their jeans and tees!) True, it really makes no difference to the quality of the music, but it can surely make a difference to your bookings!

I've been using the M1 Active for the last couple of years, and I've lost count of the times I was complimented on my tone. Brilliant pickup! Trouble is, I've just got hold of the M80. Really brilliant pickup! First time in ages I've felt excited about a guitar pickup. Currently I've got both in the same guitar - bit of a squeeze to put it mildly - for comparison. Trying to work out how to show this to anyone not actually in the shop..

I joined a band about a year ago, and before the first gig (no chance for a full band rehearsal or such) I checked out a few pics and vids of them in action.. it was painfully obvious who were the regular members and who the occasional standins. A couple of trips to the charity shops later I had amassed what I thought would fit in visually.. good move, judging by the reaction, even got quite a few mentions to the audience - 'we've had some people who can play before, but this one actually made the effort to look like a member of the band!'

Fretless, flats or even better black nylons, possibly something to reduce the sustain or else do that manually. I wouldn't particularly bother with effects unless you want those sounds, but now I'm wondering whether an acoustic simulator might be pleasant. .

The Stagg can be bowed.. IIRC it's on the scratchy side for my tastes when set to a good pizz tone, but that's personal taste and suitable EQing (p'raps with an EQ pedal for ease of switching back and forth) may well yield results pleasing to your own ears.

We have Pops and Super-Sensitive Clarity hypoallergenic in at the mo.. link below. :-) I mostly use Pops myself, so try to keep that one around as much of the time as possible. Just in case. Others crop up as and when possible depending on who we're ordering with at the time.

Pretty bog standard blues-rock kinda riff, really. I'd be surprised if it wasn't already in use before Budgie as well. It's all about context.

I don't think they specify the strings until you get a few rungs up the ladder. If I get chance I'll check when I see the Stentor catalogue.
