Can't see it. . Blocked on copyright grounds!

Just tried it.. I think I have pretty average size hands, but I do play DB as well. 1-4 I just stretch, use 4th finger! I also, depending on the line and where I'm going next, go E2-E6 shift then A4 is no stretch at all.

Have you tried getting longer grub screws for a standard one? Cheaper and easier ..

EMG do a couple of things.. the BTC is a 2-band with a single stacked knob, and the EXB is an all-in-one on a single knob. I have their BTS on an Overwater J with Bartolini pickups. http://www.emgpickups.com/accessories/bass-accessories.html

I've looked longingly at this fretted J5.. if I was in the market for such a bass it would have been mine weeks ago! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/229012-overwater-j5-natural-24-fret-now-with-video-clip/page__p__2440096__hl__overwater__fromsearch__1#entry2440096

I have a couple of their fretless 5ers..I tried many 'nice' things over the years but a |Progress III was the first thing to really make my insides jump! The Progress III is, as some have said, pretty modern sounding. Could the name hold a clue? Versatile, mind.. put black nylons on there and it's the closest I've had to an EUB tone from a bass guitar. The EQ section is powerful in a very musical way. Often grab this one for more acoustic-type gigs. The Jazz - Swamp Ash body - is a monster! A heavy bass, but excellently balanced once on the strap. Punchy as you like, came with an East pre which was amazingly good but just had toooo many options so I took it down to an EMG BTS with passive/active switch. This bass is my go-to for the more rocky end of the spectrum. I think you could say I like them! Edit, forgotten comment: Neither of mine has any of the deluxe options, but they have a certain quality about them.. nice pieces of wood put together just-so by folks who really know what they're doing.
I've got one of these on my Hartke bass. Unnecessarily complicated and I can't really see how it's any kind of improvement over the original Schaller 3-D bridge.
It's not that complicated really, and each string pulls straight even at maximum adjustment. To adjust the rollers on the 3D you still have to slacken the string.

E & A for plain gut... needs to bow, slap and pizz
hubrad replied to Jeff Kissell's topic in EUB and Double Bass
How about the Orchestral Solo set? Since they're designed to be tuned a tone up, tuning to EADG will drop the tension somewhat. Eminently bowable. -

“As many truths as men. Occasionally, I glimpse a truer Truth, hiding in imperfect simulacrums of itself, but as I approach, it bestirs itself & moves deeper into the thorny swamp of dissent.” David Mitchell The thing with 'science' is that even that keeps changing, and contains many anomalies. Anyone ever tried a piezo pickup (impedance a few Megohms) into an unbuffered amp input, which is expecting an impedance of a few thousand Ohms? According to science it's wrong, and should cause problems. My own experience is that sometimes it works fine, sometimes not. If it sounds the way you want to sound, just relax!

Is it a bad idea to use switch cleaner on a momentary SPST footswitch?

Signal cables are the noticeable ones.. one of my occasional bands was given the opportunity to try Cream cables at a gig (see the Cricketers' link on here: http://www.thedenkeighley.co.uk/Cream%20cable.htm ) and being my usual sceptical self I said I'd give a cable a quick try at soundcheck. A subtle yet appreciable difference, just clearer tone. We all used them, even the mics were on Cream. The frontman was so blown away by the cumulative effect of all the channels being just that bit clearer that he offered to put the cash upfront if we all fancied a cable or two each! We all went for it, and no regrets there whatsoever. These days I automatically reach for those cables, knowing my tone is just that tad better; it's just like the eternal arguments about 'more expensive basses - are they worth it?' or 'how much difference can the wood make?' .. even if nobody else can hear the actual difference, if I'm more confident and 'in the Zone' they'll probably appreciate my playing that bit better. I was once in a studio, where the guy ran a spectrum analyser on my Cream and a 'normal' cable.. on-screen the Cream didn't look anything like as good as t'other, but to my ears.. It stands to reason that even the mains cabling could make a yet more subtle difference, quite possibly not one you would as such hear - I got one of the basic 'Hi-Fi' kettle leads and can't hear the difference, but anything that contributes to the cumulative improvement gets my vote. To anyone who is convinced it's snake-oil - don't fret about it, there's more to worry about in life! To the interested sceptic - get a go one one or more of these things and see what you think. If you hear a difference, then it's your call as to whether you think it's worth the price tag. Some really cool players use dead-basic everything, some use top-notch. Enjoy life!
I do remember once getting a tip (buggered if I can remember where I got it from though so apologies for that), which has served me pretty well over the years when dealing with plugs and cables. Every once in a while it's a good idea to physically unplug permanent cables, spray a bit of WD40 or Switch Cleaner onto a cotton rag, wipe the plugs with it and reinsert them. Used to do about once a year with my studio setup. I found it worked well with my guitar leads too. Can't speak for it's efficacy with mains leads though...
Switch cleaner, yes.. WD40 NO,NO,NO! It's brill on machinery, but for electronics it's more likely to cause problems. Especially don't use it for pots, as it burns (on a very small level, not like e-cigs going off! :-D ) and knacks yer pots!

Bass Player Required For Mature Fun Time Band In Cardiff
Our band, Nearly Dan, had gigs pre-booked in Edinburgh and Glasgow on April 25 and 26. This is an annual jaunt for us. The Friday was sold out, and the Saturday was selling well. On the Thursday before, I started to get an infection in a tooth that had recently been filled. My face started to become swollen. I called my dentist, but the jobsworth receptionist told me I couldn't get in for a check. The next day I was supposed to be picked up at 10.50am. My face was massively swollen, and my eye looked like it had been hit by Mike Tyson. I went to my doctor, expecting her to give me a strong antibiotic, but she took one look at me said I needed to go to A & E for emergency treatment. I told her I needed to go to Scotland for gigs, but she said it would not happen. At the hospital they said I needed to have the tooth out and would have to spend the next 24 hours on an intravenous antibiotic drip. I maintained that I'd already missed our minibus and needed to be in Scotland for the gigs. The doctor said: 'Do you value your health or your gigs?' I asked if there was any alternative. Against their advice, I agreed to have the tooth removed and a intravenous shot of antibiotics, plus a course of strong antibiotic tablets to take. Thanks to my girlfriend, I made a train that got me to Edinburgh just in time, at a cost of £91.50. The gigs were great and I'm now on the mend. What I ask is: Would you have done the same thing and risked your health for a gig? What lengths have you gone to in order to let ensure the show must go on?
Tough call.. it all worked out, so well done! Sometimes such an infection can actually spread further, so there's always a risk.. if such a thing goes pear-shaped you're in hospital, and no messing. Meanwhile, my first thought was that if your dentist's couldn't get you in a pain slot - especially where the tooth had recently been filled - you really need to change your dentist!
