1. ... and you owned up to us all!
2. I had a Boss problem years back which may be an issue if one of your pedals is fairly old. Seems some of the older pedals weren't designed to work from 0V to 9V on psi, but instead the 'ground' level was a couple of volts positive. Fine one at once, but two pedals of differing generation could clash and just not quite function correctly.
3. If you're finding a single 12 too dull and lacking midrange, I'd be more inclined to upgrade the 12.
4. Peavey used to do a bi-amp top with 100W power amp and 2x8" speakerage. I still have one buried somewhere at home.
5. She's probably pi**ed off with the comment "Thin neck and light to suit a female guitarist."
6. I prefer the snare side of the kit from a drummer POV, but mostly these days I'll be at the other side so that, on dep gigs, I can get a better view of the guitarists' chord work.
7. I'm pretty much exclusively on fretless 5ers.. mostly I'm on 45-105 +130 gauge-wise on rounds, flats, and half-rounds. I also use Picato black nylons which are thicker (50-130) but lower tension. Probably not a helpful thing to say, but I love 'em all! I used to use 40-100 +125, as they were the only set I could find for a long time to go on a headless 5) but way prefer the tone of the slightly heavier sets.
8. Endpin is the most common for me. You could experiment with bits of foam to immobilise/damp various bits..
9. Beautiful looking bass, Stavros! Interesting use of the Ibanez Roadstar truss rod cover, good recycling Love the idea of the bass getting a trip to the beach for sunset.. we could have a whole new thread of Basses In Unusual Situations
10.
I think that anyone who has worked hard to become very good at their profession makes what they do look very easy. Be that carpenter, engineer, or musician. Most people see someone doing something well and it looks easy. How many people have said to you "I wish I could play an instrument. When I was younger I started to learn ....... but never stuck with it. " So I think people know it's hard and takes a lot if work but think because they're enjoying listening and dancing then you must be enjoying playing, so why would you want to be paid?
We've got builders (good friends, also bluegrass musicians themselves) in at the mo. They make their tasks look straightforward enough, whereas 'helping' them on my day off is quite an eye-opener and something of a Generation Game moment! On this track, the MU mag that arrived a couple of weeks age has some mention of musicians being approached to play Jubilee/Olympics gigs for free or very little where it appears that riggers, PA companies, bars etc etc are charging as normal. Obviously not to be approved of!
11. Your pint on my amp... Just NO! For just the same reason as passing the soundman or recording engineer a brew ROUND the desk.
12. What you want is easy to track down in electronics stores. I've got a couple of spare pots with push-push Double Pole Double Throw switch built in. Great projects box stuff:-)
13. Must dig out my Danny Thompson video - Bassically Speaking - I feel sure he said something about njust having to play that much harder way back when. I suppose it accounts in part for the apparently shorter envelope, if you're flat out all the time there's little room left for sustain.
14. Yup.. unless you're confident or under good instruction, take it either to ACG or a good repairer. I was shown how to defret properly, but not before a comedy rosewood-splinters-flying-everywhere episode with a cheapish bass I wouldn't risk your tasty instrument as your first experiment..
15. Well worth a try IMHO.. a mate of mine gave up on 'normal' bass amps for quite a while since he was using only active basses at the time, Yamaha TRB5 IIRC. His sound was most definitely not lacking in anything.. 'Rockin' Mal' is summat of a legend around Bradford!
16. Excellent.. Live radio on the TV! Good stuff with a mellow groove
17. Play the fretless, more towards the neck pickup. Alot of 'normals' can't tell the difference between that and a double bass with a bit of EQ. Seriously! I've had quite a few gigs through the years that started off virulently anti-electric; after a set on the fretless they were more than happy.
18. Bassace (Oxfordshire) had a Meinel for sale last year: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/127352-eberhard-meinel-34-double-bass-for-sale/page__p__1164764__hl__meinel__fromsearch__1#entry1164764 I just looked and there was no conclusion to the thread.. mebbe drop him a line? I suspect you'll only find one by playing as many as you can get to!
19. I looked at that one, too.. don't need one, can't really afford one, quite fancy one at the right price but deffo not driving to the Deep South for one! Wasn't there a thread on here about this very issue? Plenty of folks just don't trust either the carriers or the person receiving it 'damaged'. Up to the seller, but it surely reduces the potential market.
20. Ooh.. in the world of EUBs this would be one of my first choices! I played one at Mo's place about 10 yrs ago, so the same era.. marvellous piece of kit. If we weren't having major house works done I'd be in the car now. Best of luck Geoff!
21. I've got both sizes of Hiscox (well, I'm just waiting for the ProII larger one to arrive) so if you're around W Yorks you're welcome to try your bass in mine.. each one holds a 35"Overwater fine.
22. DBs are asymmetrical, both inside and outside (bass bar, soundpost, bracing, fingerboard. Technically you can't do it, but in practice.. A good mate of mine did a conversion to start with then once he was sure it was the right thing to go for he had one made properly. Find one to get a go on? My mate isn't the only lefty DB player I've seen.
23. Haha! Good luck with the auction!
24. I second that emotion I have the 250W head with the same output jacks.. Min Impedance 4 Ohms. Good amps, mine (SMX Made In England early 90s) is still giving good service approaching 20 years old.
25. Always sorry to hear of one feeling they have to leave.. it's a gut-wrencher. Do zombie makeup kits class as Other Musically Related Items?
