Eyup Matt, just an aside (congrats on what sounds like a splendid Ebay purchase!).. WD40 - NO!! Long term it'll make things far worse than ever; get a can of Servisol Super 10, that's the very thing for scratchy pots :-)

I think the answer will be 'What spacing do you want?'

Ah, the blisters.. I suppose you have all that to revisit. Hearty congrats on a good and encouraging job well done!

Something with a good bit of brightness available - you can always roll it off if you want to go mellow. I've got EMG on one, Bartolini on another, and the custom built Overwater has, well, Overwater custom pickups and electronics. Extra circuits can give you more tone options without going to the amp (or playing differently) but I don't miss them if they're not there. Don't forget the bass itself - some woods are just more lively than others. Ebony board for me, as you've said too. Walnut is smooooth toned, ash far more zingy. Also strings - rounds for zing, flats for mellower, etc. The search for the perfect tone... It goes ever on.
I've just watched this, and while I'm no Kim fan, what she says is so true And yes, I'm guilty too
Oh yes, indeed! And that thing about the ending.. I played with a band for a while who did that on EVERY BL***Y SONG!! It was an excuse for an extra bit of guitar widdly, nothing more.
Personally I would use a router. Practice on some off cuts first. Using in chisel (IMHO) takes years of practice! The router will be quicker, just take care as they bite if mis-handled
+1 to practicing first.. make sure any work pieces are clamped down - you'd be surprised how far a router can try to throw either the wood or itself if things move unexpectedly. No sudden moves, and use eye and ear protection! After all the warnings, a router is a brilliant tool!

If both cabs stopped simulaneously, I would suspect the amp, service notwithstanding.. when did this occur - before or after service? Tried the amp into another cab and with other cables? Etc.

I dug out my LP of Sweet Dreams.. sleeve notes amounted to zilch!
Sorry I don't think that information is right at all. From what I can find Dean Garcia didn't join the band until the Touch album. All of Sweet Dreams was recorded in a small studio with an 8-track machine. My friend who used the same studio for the recording he did with Dave Stewart said that there wasn't anywhere to record a full band and the drums were done on the Movement Drum Computer synced to tape. Live the drumming was done by Clem Burke of Blondie who had played on the previous Eurythmics album which was recorded in Koln with Conny Plank, so I would have thought if there had been any real drums on the album he would have provided them. Further investigation has thrown up this line up for the recording of This Is The House
Haha! The plot thickens! Quite so.. I don't fully trust the cd selling websites, and really don't trust Wikipedia either when it comes to it! P'raps a bit of amateur sleuthing / calling in of favours from those in the know is called for...

Corking track, ta for reminding me! The early Eurythmics stff in particular was just so different! According to cduniverse on Sweet Dreams : 'Additional personnel: Vic Martin (keyboards); Dean Garcia (bass); Pete Phipps (drums); Maggie Ryder, Gill O'Donovan, Susie O'List (background vocals).'
Probably not any use now youve bought it but I have both a lined and unlined and find the unlined much easier to play. I only have side dots on the fret positions (The usual 3,5,7 etc). I, probably like most people, thought it would be the other way round but nope. Those lines and dots just confuse you and keep you in your fretted 'box'. So if your up to buying another I would go for nothing but side dots. Fretless makes you think about what your doing. Which is a good thing A
+1 to the unlined vote above

I tried a chisel the first time I had a go at this.. it's way easier to make a good job with a router, but it's also way easier to make a complete f''kup as well. I'd go for the router, but practice a few times on spare wood first!
-
OK, so back onto topic.. If I was looking to spend this kind of money on a fretted 4 string, Floyd's OW would be coming home with me! Seriously fancy it, just seriously no justification.
