Total pisser! Any of your chaps in MU? http://www.musiciansunion.org.uk/site/cms/...w.asp?chapter=1 Sometimes the threat of involving a 'bigger brother' can help, but for future use MU let you download various standard contracts. As a couple of folks here have said - get it in writing! We've probably all been stuffed like this at some point. One renowned tight-fisted landlord in Bradford was known to relent after our 17 stone, son-of-a-pro-wrestler drummer (going back many years now ) mentioned his windows. This is, obviously, not a generally recommended course of action! If you quite like the place and the manager, sounds like a job for a serious talk with him to let him know just how pissed off you are. He'll probably see the finincial incentive of promoting a longer term relationship.
I think I've seen you and your self modded Roadster. Did you have 2 and dragged them along to O D's in Wakefield about 5 years back - one covered in newspaper clippings??
Hi Dr.D.. I thought I recognised your pic in another thread; as you say it's been a few years! Hope all's well with you.. obviously we're both still doing the bass thing. Much cheer HUGH

If replacing the fuse (that one should be fine) didn't do the trick, sounds like something internal which caused the fuse to blow.. you need an amp repairer to check it over asap. Where are you? Someone here will probably know of such a person in your area. Poss also look at borrowing an amp. Hope this helps, HUGH
Why? i've tried watching it, but couldn't be arsed, don't know if I ended up somewhere in the middle of it... But I'll try it for second time, as I'm going to see Motown tribute band next weekend... I'll get my coat now.
Watch this 6 times instead of thinking about the tribute band! It's not a techno-fest, but groove, groove, groove!

I was once refused a S/H Jazz Bass purchase in Denmark Street after I let slip that I was planning to do the same! But seriously, go for it.. I started off with an Ibanez Roadster which I suppose started life like this: only in mahogany stain. By the time I got it, it was fretless (one piece ebony) and still 4 string. I now play in a ceilidh band with the guy who did the conversion It's now 5-string and headless - did it myself with a junior hacksaw in my hand and hope in my heart. Now off the road for some long deserved tidying up and a reface. I'm planning a build diary on a budget! Over the years it's had so many different holes made and pickups fitted, but it's done every electric bass gig with me. I'm glad I did it; the balance is perfect and it sounds and plays so well! Ok, so the Fender Jazz is an icon, but why does that mean it can't be tweaked for the individual player? Best of luck, HUGH

Years ago I changed rom combo-mode and got into separates.. I now have one head, Trace AH250SMX and a couple of cabs. 1x10 for small/acoustic, 2x10 for almost everything (great to see the face of Rock Players lugging the 8x10 at a festival gig and a 2nd 2x10 if I need to shake ornaments of the rack above the pub door. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=39309 .. Mr.T. is selling a whole rig powered by one of these.

Go for it! One band I'm in has (me included) been pussyfooting around trying to come up with a suitable date for over a year now. Just get in there. If studio choice#1 reeks of smoke to that extent it needs to be one very special studio if you're still planning on going there.
Just debating the merits of buying another bass with my wife
I work in a music shop. We don't accept wives as part ex.
The response is, my friend, once I have tried out the bass comprehensively and made clear my intention to buy, why should I buy from you and not ring round every other music shop in the country / trawl the internet for a better price!
See all the threads including comments like 'I tried 7 Les Pauls before I found one I liked'

Light Flight by Pentangle. Mostly 5. Features Danny Thompson on double bass.. worth hearing for him alone but each member of the band was (and still is - I saw them in Harrogate last year) superb. Tons of E.European folky stuff. HUGH

I work in an independent music shop. Ok, times are tight and we always need to keep selling in order to still be here next year (well said Stylon Pilson). If you build up a relationship with a shop they are more likely to do give you some recognition. As Bumnote said, "in the middle there is a compromise"; there's nothing like a total stranger going in for the hard haggle to elicit the response "just pop round to Tesco and see if they'll take 20p less for that pack of biscuits for me"! As a couple of our reps have recently said - selling at 'old' prices is an option, but we then have to pay the 'new' price for the next thing. I'd quite like to kepp my job if possible; I fair enjoy it. The worst thing to offer is Amex card - costs us both a mint! Best of luck to us all. HUGH

We've got one Shadow Bass Dopester (what kind of name is that?) to clear at £22. http://www.themusicroom-online.co.uk/produ...roducts_id/2603 It's another humbucker; no idea on the tone but the name, I suppose, suggests warm fuzzy feelings! Ped suggested it would be gracious to offer some kind of discount.. if you want this, put "hubrad said it was ok" in the notes section for free p+p. HUGH

I used to use Elites Stadium for years, very happily. Good job as they were the only 5 string double ball set I could find at the time Currently using Picato flats as they'll do one-off custom sets. Liking these very much, too! HUGH

I was just putting these flatwounds on the shop website at work: http://www.themusicroom-online.co.uk/produ...roducts_id/4389 (Ped suggested it might be a gracious idea to offer BC members a discount on bass stuff, so if you want the strings above at 10% off and free post just quote "hubrad said it was ok" in the Notes setion of the order) when I noticed you can get an ERB set too! http://www.thomann.de/gb/la_bella_760fl_flatwound.htm .. had to chortle! Any more amusing misprunts to brighten an otherwise dull afternoon? HUGH

Jazz Bass 'Cumbersome' and 'A Blast From The Past'
'Soft Maple' refers to certain species of Maple that don't happen to be as hard as 'Rock Maple', which is usually found on guitar necks etc. It will still give you brain damage if you were hit around the head with the aforementioned J bass.
Thanks for that Henry; always good to learn new things. I've dug around a little now and found a useful info site on hardwoods: http://www.hardwoodinfo.com/species_guide/...ecies=softmaple which confirms Soft Maple to even be an Acer. Trouble is , now I want a go on one! I rather like Jazz basses. I find them somehow more of an interesting icon then the Strat. No idea why. Maybe I was just born to love bass! HUGH -
That sounds expensive for a pot, BUT if it's exactly what you want and makes your pedal work again, sounds bargainous.
Give something a Purpose, especially a Very Important Purpose, and the price skyrockets! At least this will be the exact fit and value.

Jazz Bass 'Cumbersome' and 'A Blast From The Past'
hubrad replied to bremen's topic in General Discussion
They are maple bodied strangely enough.
Quite so.. http://www.squierguitars.com/products/sear...rtno=0326702521 It looks nothing like any maple I ever saw, at least in the picture. I wonder if 'Soft Maple' is anything like 'Chinese Ebony' which looks and sounds rather like Rosewood on any guitars I've seen claiming to be made of such wood? The fretless version says Agathis body. -
That many you had to post it twice
Bah! Technology! Honest, though, you should see the boxful! HUGH
