  1. If you like supporting wildlife If you like Warren Ellis If you like Flea (You probably like Basses) you might fancy this raffle https://www.ellispark.org (there is no obvious direct link , so you will need to scroll down while the homepage still has the raffle prizes).
  2. I tried a 32 scale Manton at the Birmingham guitar show earlier this year. It was lovely and was very tempted to buy the one I tried or getting one made. I ended up getting a mid 80s Stingray. But would love to get a 32 scale Manton bass if I ever get another chance to shell out on a bass.
  3. I have the standard Fender ss bag. But this is an interesting option I’ve just stumbled across. Other patterns available. But this pick show a mustang bass. https://www.homeoftone.co.uk/products/mother-mary-company-soft-case-gig-bag-kokomo-pre-order?_pos=1&_psq=Gig+bag&_ss=e&_v=1.0
  4. Can't think of anything better than 'Pre-millennium Groove', but I would definitely go and watch you if you played around Cardiff.
  5. This pedal is seriously challenging my three rules of pedal purchases. 1) Simple, 2) 2nd hand, 3)£100 max (used to be £50 max). I love the aftershock but I've never delved into the Neuro editor.
  6. I enjoyed this bbc documentary about them https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001ln6p
  7. Loved Little Simz on the Pyramid stage just now.
  8. I had a Bruce Thomas Profile Bass, for a while and it was great. There are lots of positive comments about this model on this site. Pretty sure I saw one for sale around this budget in the classifieds recently.
  9. What about some Jessie Ware? Free Yourself has almost 30 million streams on Spotify so should be pretty recognisable.
  10. The Fender one works well enough for me.
  11. 1859 sold so far, I have no idea if that is a lot for a mass produced instrument at this price point, sounds like a lot over a few days of sales even if you expect a peak at the start and the end.

    This one is pretty. https://guitarzilla.co.uk/products/yamaha-sbv-500-car-gz617
  13. So far I’ve just turned everything all the way up and then roll off whatever I want less off. But I’m no expert.
  14. In the early nineties, as part of a trio, we hired a rehearsal room under some railway arches in Cardiff. We managed somehow to lock ourselves out and the guy running the place wasn’t around. So we asked the band in the other room for his number, (our drummer knew their drummer). The band were Catatonia. It was a year or two before they made it, although they had a bit of a local following already.
  15. With a landmark birthday imminent, I decided to treat myself to new bass. Which would be an upgrade to the two Squier classic vibe bases I’ve been playing for a while. (A Mustang and a Jaguar). I’ve been down many internet rabbit holes, thinking about options. But haven’t had much of a chance to try out any contenders, given the lack of shops that stock much more than the most popular models. Especially given I was trying to decided if I prefer short or medium scale. So I decided to make the trip from Cardiff to the Guitar Show in Birmingham last Saturday, to actually touch some basses. The plan was to check out some basses by Reverend, Sandberg, anything else that might be interesting and pay a visit to the Vintage Bass Room stand to try something a bit more classic (just to see). I was impressed with basses by Reverend,Sandberg and a couple of lovely medium scale builds from @Manton Customs. But none of them made me smile like the vintage basses that @walshy and @AndyTravis where showing off at the Vintage Bass Room stand. Turns out what I really needed in my life was a well played in 2EQ stingray. It looks fantastic, but plays and sounds even better. So it came home with me. I was planning to keep it in its case for over week to make the lead up to the big day exciting. I lasted 24 hours. Spent about an hour with it yesterday at home, through my Ashdown studio 15 combo. Happily the bass plays and sounds just as good I remember at home. I’m looking forward to getting into a rehearsal room in a couple of week to see how it sounds with drums and guitar. Just need to get a proper band sorted so I can get gigging with it. Here’s a picture at home, much better pics and more details can be found at Vintage Bass Rooms Thanks @walshy for making it possible for to own such a great instrument, and being great to deal with.
  16. Well. I lasted 24 hours.
  17. I can confirm that @Manton Customs basses are very fine indeed.
  18. It’s staying in the case until my birthday in a week and a bit. Will post and NBD then
  19. I enjoyed the show, tried some lovely basses. Was planning to try stuff to inform a later buying decision. Left with a lovely 1987 stingray from @walshy It’s by far the nicest (and priciest) bass I’ve ever owned. But I couldn’t resist. Thanks @walshy and @AndyTravis
  20. This will be my first trip to a guitar show, any tips for making the best of the day? I have a milestone birthday coming up and planning to get a new bass to celebrate. I'm going as it seems a good opportunity to try a variety of basses to inform my decision. I'm planning to check out Reverend, Sandberg and @walshy's stand. Also hoping to try out any Hagstroms and Stingrays if there are any. I am leaning towards medium or short scale, but not ruling out a long scale. Currently I have two squire classic vibes, mustang and jaguar, as well as my old (an much neglected) SGC Nanyo Bass Collection. Any advice would be much appreciated.
  21. I'm probably more of basslurker than a basschatter. But I plan to visit stand 33 on Saturday.
  22. I would just go with google calendar as it's easy to access from any device, unless people want/need to sync to different calendar apps in which case something like https://calendly.com might work.
