Laaaaaaarvely. The headlessness and that wood choice makes it look sleek as hell. Looks like a racing bass!
I'm not sure. I've got two keys that nearly fit either side of the measurement... but don't.
Yeah, it sounds like you've either got two imperial keys and you need a metric one... or vice versa. It being a Far-East-made beastie, I'd hazard a guess it needs a metric key. This is one of the most useful instrument-tweaking purchases I've ever made:

Have you tried imperial allen key sizes as well? They're usually frustratingly close to the metric sizes, but not close enough to do the job properly.
Alder body with Brushed black Laquer finish
Sorry we haven't had a chance to meet up so you could see the brushed black in the flesh... but it looks like you've gone for it anyway. Good call! Looking forward to seeing the build take shape...

I always love to see a circuit diagram with question marks on it.
So, in summary, I don't think I'm as good as other people say I am, but I'm probably better than I imagine.
Beautifully put. It's the same for me. I'm a jack of all trades, which makes me very useful in a wide variety of musical situations (you want bass, guitar, drums, keys, backing vocals in there... I can do it all), but I'm very much a master of none. I get by on intuitive musicality and knowledge of theory (along with perfect pitch), which means I can start coming up with ideas for a track as I'm first hearing it. By the time the songwriter's reached the end of the first run-through, I'm usually playing along, and 80% of the time that's the line I'll end up sticking with. People love that, and I'm easy to work with. I can take charge when needed, and I can STFU and go with what the bandleader/songwriter wants when that's needed. I'd just love to have more technical fluidity on the bass, but work/family commitments mean that "shedding" currently refers to hair-loss rather than practising.
anyone notice Stanley on DB??????
Highlight of the video for me. Holding down the groove while the other two do their thing. Niiiice. [To be honest, around halfway through that video (about 2:10 to 2:30), I thought someone might have cheekily spliced in audio from one of Robin Koerts's parody videos. Not my cup of tea anyway, but an interesting video nonetheless.]

I play 5-strings because it's easier and I'm lazy. Oh, and I've got quite short arms, so my dusty end is the opposite one from the norm. I'm so lazy that I'm tempted to get a 6 or 7 so I never have to change position, ever.

your fav Rock/Funk/Heavy/thrash Rock tracks....thread

I like it heavy. Frankly, I could just keep adding Melvins songs and I'd be happy all day. -
Does anyone have any tips on downtuning to C? I still want to be able to play in E way the mood takes me aswell.
That's the problem, really. It's wanting to be able to change between CGCF and EADG. That's a not-inconsiderable change in tension, so if one of them feels right, the other one won't. There'll be differences in string-feel and neck relief (and thus action height). I've always set up basses for particular tunings, so changing tuning means changing bass. IME, Alan cuts his nuts pretty carefully (as it were), so unless you're willing to widen your slots (again, lamenting the loss of :brow:) you're probably stuck with your current gauge. You might be able to find some stiffer strings than what you've currently got on without changing gauge, but it won't eliminate the fact that you can't have both tunings feeling great.
I liked the weight on Wave of sh*t.
Thanks, man. We were aiming for brutality and heaviness. I think we got most of the way there. -

I'm going to buck the trend now by posting some godawful sh*te. But hey, it's all in the spirit of the thread. This is from my first band, Russell. Truly a sound of its time (written in 1997, recorded in 1998), it's a bunch of teenagers still figuring out how to play and having a good time doing it. I'd never even touched a bass at this point. I'm on electric guitar (playing all the Oasis-alike lead bits), backing vocals and piano. We were inexplicably quite popular in Harrogate at the time. Around the same time, I was experimenting at home with a Korg synth module and a PC. The Brian Eno influence is pretty transparent, I think: Vitrif, from 1998ish. (IIRC, that track's kind of palindromic -- each part of the texture enters in a certain order, and leaves again in reverse order at the end.) I have hours and hours of stuff like that. Fast-forward to 2007, and the last bit of recording I did (before kids and life started getting in the way) with the previous incarnation of my ongoing project with my friend Tim. Yes, I'm actually playing bass on this one: the delightfully-titled Wave of Sh*t. It was a rushed recording in the Newcastle University studios, and we never got it sounding quite right. The vocals were only a guide, and the drums are too compressed and gated. Ho hum. The drummer left just after we recorded this, so we just left it as was. Should be doing some recording in the next few months with a singer-songwriter I've been working with, so I might have something to add in the new year! -
What AMP(s) is in your Local Rehearsal Studio?
BottomEndian replied to JMT3781's topic in Amps and Cabs
cant believe some of you have to pay extra to rent a bass rig... in the rooms where i work you get a tama kit, marhsall stack, marshall combos, 8x10 ashdown + head and a little peavey rig and pa and mics all for 12 pound an hour all in!
In my den of choice, we pay £6.50 an hour, including mics and PA. If you hire a couple of amps, kit and cymbals, that'll probably take you up to about £12 an hour... but obviously the option's there to not pay for all that stuff if you don't need it. -
I can double-check tonight on mine, but from what I remember, it's a very small imperial size, probably 0.05". If you've only got metric keys, beware!

Carlsbro Stingray heads and usually Marshall bass 4x12s. Not really what I want to sound like, but aggressive as hell. -
I make that 16 ACGs on the gear list so far (including lefties as well). To anyone who's wondering what ACGs are like: this is your chance to find out! EDIT: And to commission one from Alan as well, of course. Please, make sure I don't talk to Alan for too long. My wallet will suffer.
