2.
I like the bit " the symbol for a tie is identicle to a slur and confuses some students" Well it will then!
Yeah, it's confusing at first, but there's method in the madness. All the symbol means is that you don't rearticulate the second note (in bass terms, don't pluck the second note). If it's the same pitch as the first note, it's a tie; just a longer note. If it's a different pitch, it's a slur; either a hammer-on or a pull-off... or a massive slide.
 3.
I hadn't got a clue, but this explains it- Tied Notes
That's a good explanation of the "why" of ties. It always helps to understand that notes shorter than a crotchet are usually grouped (using the bar at the end of the stems) into beats, or sometimes into groups of two beats (seems to be more common in the US than here). Ties allow you to keep the beat grouping so it's easy to read, while having notes that play "across" the beats.
 4.
Batwings are cool:
I broke an umbrella the other day. Now having visions of a Blue-Peter-style transformation into some sort of human pipistrelle. BattomEndian, if you will.
 5. Every time someone mentions Silverstone covers, I think of threads like this, of which there have been a few. I'm glad some people have a smooth experience with them, and they look great, but I'm not sure I'd even bother trying, purely on the basis of the negative experience so many people have had.
 6.
I cant find a 4 string set on Guitarsuperhero though
Gaaahhhh! That's why I thought they'd gone up: I was comparing 5-string sets to 4-strings sets. What a massive twat I am. Earlier post duly amended.
 7.
Prevaricating is a great word.
It is, but to prevaricate is to lie, or to intentionally give a false impression. Not sure how it applies here, unless Bass Culture's lying to his/her significant other to give a false impression of how much money will be leaving the account each month.
 8.
guitarsuperhero is where I got mine for about £20. They are a really friendly ebay store.
They certainly are[s], but I've just noticed their price has already gone up since I got my set a couple of weeks ago. Now about £26 including delivery. Still about £10 cheaper than any UK stockists, I think[/s]. EDIT: Whoops! Just noticed they're 5-string sets, whereas I bought a 4-string set. My mistake.
 9.
Ooooh wonder how the orange ones would look on my green bass - damnably funky I would imagine!
On green? Pink is the way forward, my man.
 10. I know nothing about them, but what about Status? Pricey, but possibly light given the graphite construction. 6ers available in the Stealth or the S-2, I believe.
 11. Got a set of yellow ones on my Graft. They're very... YELLOW. In a big way. Here are a couple of quick snaps, which make them look tamer than they are in the flesh: Haven't had the chance to get them under UV light, but I assume they look even more bonkers. Sonically, they sound pretty much like Sunbeams (which is what they essentially are underneath, IIRC), and they feel good. A little "squeaky"-feeling under the fingers, like other coated strings I've played, but that seems to be wearing off a bit now. The colour, of course, isn't wearing off at all. For the love of god, though, if you want a set, get them from these guys in the US. Around £10 cheaper than in the UK, quick delivery (less than a week) and didn't get stung for duty/VAT.
 12. I'd imagine your best bet would be something like the piano-roll view in Cubase or similar. Click to add notes, and you can make them as long or short as you want, as long as you don't have "snap to grid" turned on. As for notating it on the stave... no chance with standard notation. That said, IIRC, Finale lets you fine-tune the MIDI data separately from what's notated (to a certain extent), but I haven't used that sort of functionality in Finale for about 15 years so I'm a bit rusty on what's do-able.
 13.
I got Bass Master (av. 1.7) - says more about my mouse control than it does my reading
Use yer computer keyboard! Still a bit slower than hitting the note on a bass or a piano, but I got an average of 0.81s and a title of Bass Clef Great Wizard. <--- (if only that was a wizard's hat)
 14.
I've seen 2.5k mentioned somewhere, not sure if that's $ or £ - either way it's too much...
Ampeg have said it's $5k and with a total production run of 50 units. Cue much wailing and gnashing of teeth on Talkbass.
 15.
Hello! bottomendian grassed you all up asking about me...
I think this is what happened after your last short absence too. Can I be the official BC Sarah-fetcher?
 16. I challenge anyone to start a thread on Talkbass titled "What is the best bass for metal?"
 17.
Gah, damn my lack of search forum skills. I do apologise for double threading!
I can't think of a bass-related topic that hasn't been done at least twice here.
 18. There's a whole thread of love here. Cracking bit of kit.
 19.
What happened to Zoe BillySheehan and Sarah 5 String?
Dunno about Zoe (did she finish sixth form this year and start a new, exciting university life?), but I see Sarah a fair bit on Twitter. I'll see if I can entice her back, but she's got a lot going on at the moment... and I think she's playing more guitar than bass these days.
 20.
It's the same shape and design...
I'm not sure this thing was "designed". "Spawned", maybe.
 21. You can also find him on Basschat under his cyber-pseudonym of... er... Steve Lawson.
 22. This interview from 1990 mentions "an old 1964 Ampeg fretless bass". I think Ampeg weren't even producing basses yet in 1964, but, y'know... mere details.
 23. Looks like one of the Ampeg fretless basses from the 60s.
 24.
I googled it and read a couple of favourable reviews on the Amazon website.I was actually looking for a cheap Jazz to defret as a pastime over the cold winter months.Hmmmm.......
If you hunt around a bit and don't mind a few scrapes and dings (or someone's just looking for a quick sale), you might be able to get one of the Squier VMJ or CV series for similar money (or even the VMJ fretless so you can spend the winter playing it instead of yanking frets ), and chances are it'll be a substantially nicer instrument. No guarantees though, obviously. The Starcaster things could be wonderful.
 25.
Ah thanks. And the Chilean Minor?
All scale degrees are diminished by about 2,300 feet.
