Post your pedal board - Basschat style!!
BottomEndian replied to dudewheresmybass's topic in Effects
Here's my somewhat sparse "small board" for dirt-free loveliness. Slightly odd layout, but it works for me: Signal: TC Nova Dynamics -> Ernie Ball VP Jr (with Sonic Research Turbo Tuner on the "Tuner" output) -> TC Nova Reverb -> EBS MicroBass II There's space to add an octaver at some point too. -

Michael Manring... What is he doing!?!!
BottomEndian replied to j2112c's topic in Theory and Technique
He also played on several Michael Hedges albums, again with more conventional techniques.
Here he is with Michael Hedges in the early 80s, playing a fretless Jazz. Still sounds really Manring. It's in the fingers. And beard, in this case. -
Ah, Dogman! I know your (frankly awesome) singer Ian from back in the day at Newcastle College. Really want to get down to one of your shows when you've got some more lined up. I'll have to take a listen to the demos later on.
4) the output signal is not as hot as my East equipped Jazz'es, what do people think of the East MM 3-band circuit?
I've got one in my OLP and I love the voicing (a bit more "aggressive" than the MM 3-band preamp; voiced more like the MM 2-band, which the East is based on) and flexibility of the sweepable mid. I've just sold my "proper" MM SR5, so I can't do a direct comparison for hotness, but I don't remember there being a noticeable difference in output between them. We need to get a North-East bash sorted out. It's been a YEAR, people.

Ryan bought a bass from me, and it was smooth sailing all the way. Top fella, swift and simple communications. A pleasure to deal with.
It would basically have to be a gamble, unless there is a returns policy.
As with all distance sellers, it is your statutory right to return something within a week for a full refund including the original shipping cost (although not the cost of return delivery).

Just ordered a yellow set for the black Graft. Ostentatious, moi?

Hats off to Ibanez for actually giving this a go when most other manufacturers just stick with the same old same old. Not sure I'm keen on the bridge-pickup-only aspect of the fretless side, but it sounds like the tone control's enough to tame it a bit. In an ideal world, I would have designed this bass to (somehow) have the fretless bit of board at the same height as the fret-tops so there's no change in feel between the strings, but it doesn't look like they've done that. Has the nut been cut properly for the two fretless strings, or have they left them at the same depth as the fretted ones?

Our Price £1,119.00 Manufacturer SKU: YAM-BB1024XBL Soundslive ID: 13753 Weight: 12 kg
Yeah, it'll be the shipping weight. I sent out my reasonably heavy StingRay5 on Friday ( ), and it weighed in at 13kg all cased and packed up.

This one's good too, and very flexible with numbers of strings and tunings. There's a free version available, but with limited tunings and stuff.

In an originals scenario, I find being able to write music down incredibly useful, especially if we've failed to record a rehearsal. If we jam out something pretty complicated, there's no danger of forgetting it because I can scribble it down in a few seconds. And obviously it then helps to be able to read it again afterwards.
Nice... Are Sub and Genuine Ray necks inter-changeable ......???
In all honesty, I have no idea. I suspect they are, but I wouldn't bother (unless you desperately want a maple board or something). The neck profile's as identical as I can tell, so it feels like a genuine Ray. And I prefer the slightly satiny painted black finish to the gloss on some Rays I've tried.

***SOLD*** ***SOLD*** ***SOLD*** I've got an unused set of 4 black Schaller M4S machine heads, in their original box. I got them for a project that never took off, and they've been sitting around for a while so it's time for them to go. Cost me nearly £60, so [s]£40 delivered in the UK[/s] SOLD seems like a good price for something essentially brand new. They've just had a bit of time spent soaking up the atmosphere chez Endian. They're all bass-side, for 4-in-a-row, Fender-style headstocks. And for the lucky buyer, I'll throw in the black Hipshot 2-string retainer I got to go with the tuners. For free!
