1. Original post:
Before anyone asks i do not leave leads plugged in the jack.
2.
A fair whack to be honest probably between 2-3 hours a night during the week then 2 x 3-4 hour practices with bands at the weekend at least. Still i would expect it to last between 9 - 12 months.
Sweet zombie jesus. I'd love to even have the opportunity to play that much. Jealous here. At that level of use, you might get 9-12 months out of EMG active pickups (they seem to last for an age IME), but any other active system... 2-3 months sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Fire off an email to Alan and he'll usually reply within a few hours.
 3.
When I used to play test pieces with championship section brass bands (in another life) this was invaluable, as they try to melt your brain on purpose!
I was only ever in a Section 4 band, with correspondingly fairly easy test pieces, but I loved hearing the absolute brain-f***ers the Championship Section guys had to play in the big contests. Hats off to you. (Just as a slight derailment... what instrument?)
 4.
I guess top of my list is a Stingray especially after hearing this beautiful, wonderful sounding Ray.
Embedded for you : Yep, that's the fretless Ray tone I love. He obviously loves it a lot too... that's why he keeps a bog roll on the desk as he plays.
 5. That Palmer unit looks great. Simple and small... but pricey. Do you need the ability to drop one out (i.e. switchable ABY), or are you just running both full-bore all the way (i.e. you just need a decent splitter)? This might be an old-fashioned (or just plain-old f***in' bonkers) view, but I tend to go for the thing that'll do exactly what I want -- no more, no less. If it does anything extra, I feel like I've wasted some of my budget on features I don't need, when I could have spent more on a better box that did only the stuff I did need. Does that make sense?
 6. My guitarist ordered one of these the other day: http://www.thomann.de/gb/millenium_hx_3.htm I've heard nothing about it, but it looks like it'll do the job in a small box.
 7.
PRODUCER DOUBLE BASSIST DRUMMER UKALELE GUITARIST BANJO KEYBOARDS/ORGAN GLOKENSPEIL HORNS
Can't help with the request, I'm afraid, but that's a hell of a line-up. I'm genuinely intrigued. Let us know where we can hear the project once it's off the ground!
 8. The OP hasn't been back to BC since 2 hours after she started the thread. I'm wondering what strings she got in the end, how the session went and whether she liked the strings or not. Closure! I need closure!
 9.
You don't see bass pedals any more??
That's cos they're hideously expensive.
 10.
And sadly mine has had to go back (long story)
We're all sitting comfortably!
 11.
He simply looks at the rig and it runs away to the car's trunk in fear!
Chuck Norris cannot look at a rig without it vaporising.
 12.
My roadie is Chuck Norris
Chuck Norris doesn't lift your gear up. He pushes the ground away from it.
 13. John Paul Jones? Keys/mandolin/whatever with hands, bass pedals with feet. I'd love a set of bass pedals.
 14. The Isley Brothers' "This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak for You)" has just come on at work, and that's another pretty simple one.
 15.
You just need to try and avoid thinking about Phil Collins!
But it helps to "keep the wolf from the door", so to speak. Errr... back on topic, "Get Ready" is pretty straightforward.
 16.
Legend, it's saddles.
Just never know with you... could have been taking the bridge off for a respray. In a moment of bizarre synchronicity, I'd just taken my SUB off its hanger for a play and I had a full set of imperial and metric allen keys on the desk in front of me.
 17. Saddles? 1/16" (or 1.5 mm if there's only metric to hand, but there's a bit of play in it). Bolts holding bridge to body? 1/8".
 18.
at least=18
8 Rays plus 18 others? Oh my. It's time for a fresh thread of Dave's Porn. I sometimes feel extravagant with 6 basses. This place makes me feel much better.
 19.
I thought I liked Rays! What a collection, well done
I imagine there's at least another 10 non-Rays lurking out of shot too, unless Dave's been on a real selling spree.
 20. Neck and body bolted together (using Alan's mysterious "custom washers" ): And then a few days later, all the woodwork's finished in the blazing Scottish sunshine: Next stop: finishing.
 21.
n rays are too many
Never thought I'd hear you say that, Dave, for any value of n.
 22. Round... Like a circle in a spiral, Like a wheel within a wheel, Never ending or beginning On an ever-spinning reel...
 23.
clueless bedroom bubinga botherer
This is awesome. I may steal it and use it profusely (always ©silddx 2010, of course ).
 24. My SR5's through-body... was it not that way from the factory? It's the original bridge, so I guess someone's been a-drillin'. I'd never even given it a moment's thought before now.
 25.
I have never played one being a lefty! I don't understand the controls though. How does 2 volume 1 tone work on a single pickup bass? Are the 2 coils independently volume controlled?
Yup.
