1. I'm a musician. My skill lies in creating music and tying together musical ideas using whatever instruments or objects are at hand. I am a jack of all musical trades, and certainly a master of none. It just so happens that my instrument of choice these days is the bass guitar.
 2.
The fretless neck is a wee sneak peek for a thread to come soon
Superb! Looking forward to it.
 3.
Well if someone had told me that I could feasibly go to a gig carrying only this >>
You take a spare 6-string fretless neck to gigs? Is it for battering off the hordes of unruly ladies who want a piece of bass-player action?
 4.
Everything wrongness of this pleases me.
Username and location makes me think it might be from our very own BigAlonBass. It pleases me too.
 5. Who's the band?
 6.
And fair play to you for being a good mate.
Yeah, +1 to this. Good on you.
 7.
I haven't got any of the parts, but I have 2 sets of flatwound strings donated to me by bottomendian
They're cut for a StingRay, though, so if it's a normal-style P neck (4-in-a-row tuners), the G won't reach.
 8. I've got a Gotoh 201 bridge knocking about that I don't think I'll ever get round to fitting to anything. Send me a PM if you fancy it. EDIT: BTW, I don't have the screws for it. Small detail, but I thought I'd better say!
 9. Sold. Thanks, Basschat!

 11.
Unfortunately there aren't too many of them with Ibanez logos! I'd love a (cheap) Axstar! :brow:
I'll fight you for it if one comes up.
 12.
Well I think its funny
13.
Unlined fretless terrifies me though...
Me too... kind of... but I barely look down as it is, so I thought, "Why bother interrupting the board with lines I don't need?" Besides which, I'm not mad enough to eschew side dots. Yet.
 14. SOLD! OK, just to be clear, I'm actually posting for a friend who's selling this. He's a top, top fella and I vouch for him all the way, but I know the justified scepticism that accompanies sale threads from newbies, so I offered to post this for him. Interested parties can PM me for his details and I'll just step aside from that point. I've heard this little monkey in action, and it surprised me with its loudness, clarity and oomph. I can't see it keeping up with a loud drummer in a rock band, but for rehearsals/small venues and medium volume levels, this would be a corker. Anyway, here's what Tim says: Bought 'used' on a whim just two-three weeks ago, used only once, selling due to getting new gear. In good condition but has a mark on the grill, on the handle brackets, and some wear on the carpet (see pictures), but overall in very tidy condition. Ashdown manual/paperwork and power cable included. Mine is the carpet-covered version, but is just the same as the current tolex version (as far as I am aware): http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.asp?ID=82 The Ashdown spiel: 100W (RMS), 8 ohm, 1x15 bass combo. EQ: Bass, Mid, Treb, 'Deep' switch. ("The Deep switch increases the low bass boost as well as reducing the degree of Mid frequencies in the signal path to provide an alternative tonal character.") Features: CD Input/Line In, Headphone Out, External Speaker Out. Price: £85 (I'm guessing no trades, but you can always hit Tim up with an interesting pedal or something. ) The amp is currently residing in the Scotch Corner area. Can be collected, or can courier it within the UK for £10 extra. Like I say, PM me for Tim's details. Cheers, people!
 15. Fingerboard, in the middle, no slots, marked "Owain": Slightly jealous of Peter's 34" of cocobolo, but it would just look outrageously out of place on my choice of body wood, so I'll let it pass. Clean and simple all the way on this one.
 16.
Ibanez Axstar
You legend. Thanks! Like hens' teeth, it seems. A search on here for "Axstar" brings up one for sale earlier in the year, for £300. I was hoping it might be a £100 JapCrap oddity that nobody wants.
 17. Identifying basses still isn't my forte. Anybody know what Joe Preston's slinging here? Little-known Steinberger model? Far-East weirdness? Whatever it is, I'm strangely attracted to it. More angles here, if it helps.
 18.
I'd check before ordering. I've been screwed by several big name internet retailers who list stuff on their site then don't even bother to email me to tell me it's not in stock until I chase them up a week after paying.
Oh, and FWIW I've ordered from Sounds Live quite a few times and if it's out of stock they've called me the same day to check that I still want to go ahead with the order. They give an estimate of the lead time, and they've always been right so far.
 19.
I wonder if its actually in, or its a pre-order situation?
Not in stock yet. For some reason, Sounds Live have two websites running simultaneously. The other one's here, and it's got better stock-status labelling. Look at something like the VM Jazz -- see under the price... it says there's one in stock. Look at the VM Jaguar. No mention of it being in stock, so it's not. Certainly not my favourite way of displaying stock status, but it's better than some.
 20.
the model no. is LU21P (soprano) and it looks like this:
Ah, OK. Not for me, I'm afraid. Can't handle soprano!
 21. What size uke is it? If you've got a picture too, that'd be fabulous.
 22. OK, dullest post ever right here... Again, had a little time to myself at home this morning, so I got the scales out. Yep, I know how to live. So, if anyone's interested, here are the weights: ACG Skelf: 9lb 1oz (4.11 kg) StingRay 5: 9lb 13oz (4.45 kg) OLP 5: 9lb 11oz (4.40 kg) MM SUB: 9lb 13oz (4.45 kg) Hondo: 9lb 4oz (4.19 kg) I knew the Skelf felt lighter, but I'd thought it could be an illusion due to how it balances. Nope. It's lighter than all the others. Splendid. And soundclips... one day, one day. They will happen, once my shoulder gets better and I can play properly again.
 23.
Well 8lbs is on the light side for a P bass for sure but The Japanese P basses I have had with basswood bodies (57Ri, 62RI) are usually 7.8lbs. and that 0.2 seems to be rather significant. When you put one one you know it's a "light" bass .. The Ash/Alder ones are usually 8.4lbs and the 70RI ones with Ash bodies are 8.8lbs. US made p basses vary a lot and the 70's era ones seem to (generally) be pretty heavy and early 60's ones generally pretty light. All of this is IME, of course.
Ah, cheers for that. I learn something every day. If I ever feel the need for a P in the future (no urine-based jokes, please ), I'll definitely bear that in mind.
 24.
OK not super light then..
Oh, is that not light for a Precision? Or just not light for a Precision of that model/era? (Most 4-strings feel light to me anyway. I'm used to the added bulk of a 5er.)
