I've now owned both the CS and Mono strap and I'd go for the Mono due to the 'boing' factor of the CS. One point of note if you use strap locks; the Mono strap has very secure thick plastic terminating points on the strap and fitting 'some' strap locks onto these is tricky... not impossible but not as easy as some.
+1 for all this, although oddly the Comfort Strapp was more comfortable for my old Ibanez BTB than the Mono was. Might be something to do with the distribution of weight due to the substantially different shape and size. As for fitting strap locks on the Mono, I just snipped off the "corners" of the hole at each end of the strap. Dunlops on, job done.
I had a look last night and couldn't see anything saying where these are made - anyone know?!
Korea, AFAIK. I had an idle noodle on one of these a while back, and I was sonically really impressed. Not my cup o' tea visually, but felt and sounded like a much more expensive bass. I hope someone bites before you have to chuck it on eBay...
Anything by Meshuggah..
...kind of... In the grand scheme of things, most of Meshuggah's stuff is in 4/4 (just listen to the drums and vocals). It's just that the riff lengths aren't whole number of beats, so you get those lovely polyrhythmic loops. From the horse's mouth (via Wikipedia):
[Mårten] Hagström notes about the polyrhythms, "We’ve never really been into the odd time signatures we get accused of using. Everything we do is based around a 4/4 core. It’s just that we arrange parts differently around that center to make it seem like something else is going on."
Melvins. Pretty much all of their stuff is in or passes through weird time signatures. Usually takes the form of missed or added beats. Love it all. Some examples (all from their most recent album):

Sad but we may never see the likes of this again!

Jeebus. I'd rather it did that to my bass than my lungs though. Oddly, no "fag boorn" on the headstock. -
Have you ever fallen in love.............. with a bass ?

You damned PEASANTS!!
I can't believe it took 30 posts for someone to say Zappa. He's probably the only person on whom I'd pin the label "musical genius" (Stravinsky and Debussy aside).
in Dundee just now (our nearest depot )
There's the problem right there. What's that, an hour's drive each way? Combine that with lazy twot drivers and you're destined for poopy service. We're very, very lucky here to have excellent drivers with the vast majority of the parcel services. (Wouldn't touch ANC on Tyneside with a bargepole though. ) Anyway, back on-topic... if you're not sending to or collecting from anywhere remote, Bilbo, Interparcel's great for delivery prices and for getting insurance easily whacked on at a fairly reasonable rate.
-
I've always gone with Interparcel up to now who offer good insurance... but I've been getting increasingly hacked off with them (and UPS) for poor delivery times then not giving a flying feck about customer care like they used to. I'd go with Parcelmonkey if I were you.
I've found Interparcel's UPS services to be absolutely brilliant (and comparatively cheap) unless anything involves going north of Edinburgh/Glasgow, or into rural Wales. Once that happens, it's anyone's guess as to when it might get picked up or delivered. I think it's to do with the relative sparseness of their delivery depots (and the scattered population) in those areas.

The beauty of the capo is that, of course, you can take it off to quickly get back to standard tuning. No second bass needed!
-
Spanner in the works here... what about a capo at the 2nd fret?
Approx 4mins in: "You can buy one of these.......... if you don't mind selling your car!"
He's not wrong either. Go to the Zon site and click on "Build your Hyperbass". Stick four Xtenders (D-tuners, call them what you like) on the build, and even with the basic satin finish and no case you're at $7250.
Doesn't the Michael Manring Zon Hyperbass have a De-tuner on each of its (4) Strings? Triple octave neck, too! 36 un-frets!
Indeed, and a two-part detuning bridge too.
-
Anyone actually use a D-tuner on a 4 string fretless? Is is something you would consider or does it just make your brain go all wobbly? I do use drop D tuning occasionally but not sure if I'd use the fretless for those numbers, or once I have it will (the fretless) I want to use it for everything?
I use a drop-tuner on the B-string of my 5-string fretless (dropping me to A). Doesn't make my brain go wobbly, but it does make the string go even wobblier. (The action suffers a touch, but that's my own fault for having it so low when tuned to B.) I'm getting into using my fretless for everything. Like 7string said, there's no harm in fitting the D-tuner -- at least you've got the option to use it then.
I know what you mean about transposing instruments and it makes sense, but I think in this case it's like telling a Tenor player to tune to B and play as if you are still in Bb. It doesn't happen. Being pedantic about it-the Bass is actually a transposing instrument. It sounds an octave lower than written.
Touché! (...though for years I put an "8" under the clefs for both bass and guitar, purely on that pedantic point. I've given up now, but it feels all wrong. )
-
You would never get this in a real world gigging situation.
Unless you played a transposing instrument, of course (Bb trumpet, Eb alto sax, G bass trombone...). Viewed from that perspective, it makes sense. (I'm just playing devil's advocate, because I agree completely with Doddy. It's silly, on a usually non-transposing instrument, to suddenly write as if it does transpose.) EDIT: Actually, given ten seconds of further thought, and considering the context of transposing instruments, I think it's a little bit sensible.

Agreed, awesome pedal. If you've got a separate guitar rig to run it out to, it's a whole world better than mixing the signal. I used to run one through a Big Muff out to a 4x12 rig. Fuzztastic. Oh, and it happily tracks down to a low B. With a hot, mids-heavy signal going in, I've had it tracking down to low, low A-flat.
I have seen these: http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/15...5_string_43_118
But... them's rounds! The flatwound version of those has much heavier gauges (43-56-70-100-136). That said, even a 136-gauge B still felt a bit flappy to me, so although I loved the TI flats on my Squier VMJ fretless, I swapped to La Bella flats on my fretless SR5. The high stiffness of those was fantastic, and the B was awesome (fat, round, thick), but they sounded just a bit "dead" on fretless. So I thought I'd give Status halfwounds a go... and I haven't looked back since. Literally half the price of a set of La Bellas, smooth feel, great stiffness, and adding in a bit more of that top end I needed to get the growl back. But it might be a different story on fretted. (In terms of flats on fretted 5ers, I had Chromes on my old Ibanez, and they were great. Stiff again, and pretty bright, but smooth through the mids. Acres of bottom too.) Actually, Gareth, I've still got the old La Bella and TI 5-string sets knocking around somewhere. They're cut for a Stingray 5, but IIRC that's what you're going for (hard to keep up with you ), so I'd be happy to at least lend them to you to try out. Neither set's had heavy use.

"Less than a year old"? I thought the SUB range was discontinued in 2006? Or did the Sterling version outlast the others?
