Where did you bought it? Here in Portugal there isn't any turbo tuner dealer...
Direct from Sonic Research themselves. They've got a dedicated international order form page. Got it in a week, and it was about £10 cheaper (including shipping, duty and VAT) than I've seen it in the UK.
Get in touch with this Fleabay seller, I sure he will find something to suit WTF?
That thing's preposterous. Assuming the necks are standard 25"-and-a-bit scale, there looks to be a good two feet from the top neck to the bottom neck. So even if you had it strapped on so the 12er was at Mark King height, the fretless would be unreachable. I'm sure I've read somewhere that these "Tennessee" branded instruments are unplayable rubbish... oh yeah, check out the Harmony Central reviews for their guitars and basses. I particularly like "I wouldn't rely on this guitar to hold a door open" and "this is the biggest turd I've ever laid my hands on".
I tried out a MM S.U.B in Denmark street ... "that one is £850"
EIGHT HUNDRED AND FIFTY POUNDS? Was it entirely gold-plated? Encrusted with diamonds? Refinished by Banksy? Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity verifying that it had passed through a time warp and been taken on board the Apollo missions? I mean, I love my SUB, but that's silly, silly money.
I used to tech for tribute acts up and down the country. We always used a Peterson 490 for all the instruments. I now use Korg DTRs.
That must be like going from fresh strawberries to Opal Fruits. Mind you, I'm a bit baffled by the specification claims of these tuners. If the Turbo Tuner is ±0.02 cents, isn't that going to make the Peterson 490 (which claims 0.1 cent accuracy) redundant, along with much of the Peterson line?
-
You cant beat a proper Peterson... Not the same as there own digital versions!
Indeed... Tuner GAS? List price US$5k.

Just got a Turbo Tuner, and it's awesome. Incredibly fast tracking and really easy to use and read. This video's been posted several times before, but it just shows you how quick, easy and small the Turbo Tuner is -- much more so than the Peterson, which costs a fair wedge extra: Indeed, the Korg Pitchblack has a "strobe mode", but it's not a true strobe tuner so it's not anywhere near as accurate as a strobe tuner. Behold: Korg Pitchblack accuracy: ± 1 cent Sonic Research Turbo Tuner accuracy: ± 0.02 cents Yes, the TT is 50 times more accurate.
When I'm palm muting I generally use my thumb and two fingers to pluck-with the thumb usually playing the lower strings-it is ,i think, very similar to using Banjo technique(Scruggs style). Its all just a matter of practice. I've often play in a similar way without palm muting as I find it quite comfortable now. Check out some videos of Janek Gwizdala-he plays that way quite a bit.
Sweet. That sounds like it might work for me. I used to play a bit of alternating-thumb style guitar, back in the day, so I could adjust to that pretty easily.
With finger style plucking you don't mute strings with the palm of your right hand. As you've found out it can't be done. You can mute with a combination of floating thumb on your right hand, bringing your plucking fingers to rest on the next string and by using the unused fingers on your left hand.
I think you're talking about general string muting, rather than the palm-mute effect. Thanks for the reminder though -- I always need to work on my muting!
For muting whilst doing normal fingerstyle, I straighten my right hand pinky and lower it onto the strings near the bridge to act as a movable mute (like the foam inserts on old P-basses). It does cause some slight extra tension in my hand, but it allows me to play muted lines but with normal fingerstyle. Mark
That sounds like an awesome idea. I'll be testing that one out. Thanks, guys. Just wanted to check I was on the right track.

Erm, what the thread title says. How do you palm mute when playing fingerstyle? I can do it if I use my thumb to pluck, but I can only play index/middle by contorting my hand and wrist into an unnatural shape. I sort of end up plucking outwards, away from the body of the bass, especially on the E and A strings (and presumably B if I tried it on my 5-string). Any tips? Or do I give up and use my thumb?
If you'll pardon the expression, do you get 'down south' much? Interested in one if not both of the cabs...but based in Stevenage. I am up in Worcestershire this weekend though. Cheers, James
I'm afraid I don't go down very often. As it were. I occasionally end up in Harrogate, but that's about as far as I habitually drift. Sorry. Worcestershire's a bit of a stretch. Actually, I'm down in Harrogate this weekend (although very busy), and I'm up in Edinburgh at the beginning of August (again, pretty busy), so there are extra possibilities for meet-ups if anyone round those areas is interested.
Windows actually just got a few Trabens in. Dunno where from though.
Trabens are suddenly everywhere! I've always quite fancied experiencing Sunn O))): That's a lot of amp.
I've recently bought a s/h Cirrus BXP V with which I am very pleased. However. I have a set of Roto 555s in the drawer and on presenting them to the 35" scale on the Cirrus, I find the silk would be below the nut, even though the Rotos are marked 'LO' which I assume is long. There's a set of DR HiBeams on it at the moment (black silk) which are OK but certainly not fresh, but I like them along with the Roto 55 Compressors which I have on my passive Jazz. Advice on string length from the 35" warriors her, please? What's the right length/string to buy? Geoff
Trouble is with basses, "long" is standard 34" scale, and not strung through the body. The Cirrus strings through the body, doesn't it? That adds an extra complication. Well, an extra inch or so to an already long scale. No experience with them myself, but I've heard DRs are generally OK on a 35", and they obviously are for your Cirrus, what with it having a set on. I use D'Addario Chromes on my 35" Ibanez, largely because they do a "Super Long" scale set just for people like us. Trouble is, there's only one gauge of super-long 5-string sets in each D'Addario range, so if you don't want 45-130, you're boned.
Interesting that they have a Warwick in there. It'll be a trade in since they're not a licenced Warwick dealer. I've found that most of the interesting stuff they get in (bass-wise, at least) is traded in!
Yeah, definitely traded in. The red finish needed some TLC, the pots were past their best (sort of slack, floppy feeling to them) and the neck... well, there seemed to be a "step" developing at the join down the middle of the neck. Not comfortable to play. It's for sale at £699. Seems a little ambitious for a 5-string FNA Jazzman that needs some work. And that's marked down from £799. Oh, and the B-string seemed like an afterthought. Like it wasn't even from the same set. Really odd.
The Queen's Bench decision in Boots Cash Chemists did indeed establish the law, with respect to the point at which a contract comes into being. However, in the situation outlined by the OP it would not be necessary to resort to this argument. The situation outlined is not one of mispricing but of misdescription. Such a misdescription would give rise to an essential error. Such error being discoverable would not have made a concluded contract a nullity but would certainly give a vendor the right to decline to contract, without a prospective purchaser having any right of recourse to current legislation. In the outlined situation the attempt to contract falls at an early stage, that of consensus as to description.
Mmmmmm. I usually have to ring an 090 number to get filthy stuff like that. "I've been a naughty barrister. Disbar me!" Praise be to Basschat.

BottomEndian replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Not on eBay, but certainly JapCrap: there's a Westone Spectrum ST in my local music shop for about £120/£130 (I forget the exact price). All black, with chrome hardware and a rather spiffing-looking one-piece P pup. Condition looked OK, but I didn't have time to really give it an inspection. Opinions? Worth going back for another look? -
Huh? I Ive seen tonnes of shops with no price tags - if you have to ask you cant afford.
The Price Marking Order 2004 states that prices must be "unambiguous, easily identifiable and clearly legible", and that "consumers should not have to ask for assistance in order to be able to see a price" (actually, that second quote comes from the Guidance Notes for the Order). As for the whole matter of things being wrongly priced, it seems that the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 suggests that things should be sold for the price at which they are visibly marked in the shop. However, it's only likely to be enforced if it's something that happens regularly in a business. In the OP's case, it was clearly an error, and Trading Standards probably wouldn't side against the shop. Caveat: I'm no legal expert, so this is all IMO, IME and YMMV. Maybe a BC legal eagle might like to swoop in and clarify...
Like the others have said, wrong. A price tag means nothing. An invitation to treat, means they can accept, or otherwise, your offer to buy at that price, ie. they are inviting you to offer to buy it.
All true. But as a side point, according to the Trading Standards guy who visited me, everything has to have a price clearly displayed. Yes, even if it's the "wrong" price.
The new Guitar Guitar (on Granger Street) has a pretty good selection of bass guitars to fiddle with. If you want a hidden gem and have a car, then apparently (not called in yet) Jake's in High Spen is one of the few in the UK to stock Trabens.
Found myself with an afternoon to spare yesterday, and I was passing through High Spen, so I called in to Jake's Guitars... and they're on holiday until Sunday. Still, I had a peek through the window, and it looks like it has the potential to be a little bit interesting, especially to a budget bassist like me. So I trundled on my way into Newcastle, and ended up spending about 40 minutes in GuitarGuitar plodding around on a few basses. I got that strange mixture of surly-yet-helpful that seems unique to guitar shop staff, so it took some persuading for them to even let me try out a ZVex Mastotron fuzz with a bass. They had 7 or 8 Sadowskys in there, a Hamer Chaparral 12-string bass, and then a multitude of the usual bass suspects. Got to try out my first ever Warwick, albeit a slightly knackered-up second-hand FNA Jazzman with what seems to be a burgeoning neck problem. I'd recommend GuitarGuitar, at least when it's quiet. They were quite happy to let me sit in the corner whacking basses, even though I clearly had no intention of buying one that day. That's the sort of thing that makes me want to go back there.
